Mine has been that way for quite a while now...
Have you been invited for an interview yet?
Mine has been that way for quite a while now...
Mine changed too. Have not interviewed or received an inviteOkay, so I just looked at my portal, and it changed overnight as well. . .now it has Invited for Interview, Interview Scheduled, and Interview Complete! Does that mean that I am going to be getting an II, or did their system just change everyone's portal?
Edit: @stodda57 I haven't gotten an email inviting me for an interview. . .my status was the same for a long time and I have been complete since 8/10, but here's hoping this means I will be getting some news soon!!!

Omg. Yes.My portal shows "invited for interview" - Incomplete, with a red exclamation point. Has anyone else seen this on the portal?
I hope it just means that they didn't get around to scheduling our interviews yet. Stay positive. But I know what you're thinking, I'm thinking it too.Omg. Yes.
I just noticed everyone else already mentioned my "news," sorry, it appears I'm late to the party.@Citygirl44
It appeared for a lot of people (scroll up this page) - even people who have already had interviews. I think they may have just created more categories, but no one really knows.
Congrats on your acceptances! Deposits were not required in our year, and probably won't be in yours either.
A little info on housing:
If looking for a single, I think grad housing is best (though expensive). If you have a car, consider tallgrass or the grove. Majority of students live in these two complexes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tallgrass Apartments
I currently, and A LOT of other med students live at Tallgrass Apartments. Like every apartment complex in Tallgrass has a med student.
Pros:
- Not sure how much this is important to you but, they are building a new gym that is supposed to open in a couple of weeks. It is supposed to have full basketball court, free weights, and machines. I am also not sure of the quality of the gym.
- Cheap. I am paying 425 for 2 bed 2 bath (unfurnished). I think the rates go up for next year though.
- 3 min drive to school (22 min walk)
- lots of med peeps
- really quiet / no loud parties
- high speed internet included
Cons:
- BUGS (Spiders, ants, things that jump / fly): most of them are in the hallway between the different units so when you open the door to the apartment complex, you will so many bugs. They sometimes get inside the house. I have been killing a bug a day for the past 3 months. One time I had ants cover an entire pizza box I left beside the trashcan. Over 100+ ants. Bugs are an issue at tallgrass, but the severity depends, I talked to other students and they say that if you live on the ground floor, you tend to see more bugs.
- Depending on the unit, you won't get hot water as soon as you turn on the tap. I currently have to turn on my washroom tap and leave it on for 3min for the water to heat up. For my kitchen sink, I need to leave it on for 5min. Though it may not seem like a huge amount of time, it adds up, especially in the morning and during the winter.
- You need to bring your own microwave.
- doesn't have a lounge for ppl to hang out
- gas and electricity not included (i have been paying $50 for gas and electricity, it will jump to like $75 when winter starts)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Grove
I know a huge chunk of med students also live there. 5 min drive, 35 min walking distance.
Pros:
- Pretty cheap also (more expensive than Tallgrass, but in my opinion, the services they provide are worth it)
- free color printing (big + if you like hard copies of notes, this is something I am actually considering switching apartments for)
- has a lounge: swimming pool, free pop corn, free ice cones, pool table, table tennis, TV, board games, gym
- clean apartments (havent heard bug stories)
- furniture they provide is also good
- includes all appliances
- rent includes $25 credit towards electricity / gas
- high speed internet included
- spacious (a room in a 3 bed / 3bath at grove is bigger than a room in a 2 bed / 2 bath at tallgrass)
Cons:
- noisy, a lot of undergrads live here (I need my quiet. I cannot study in a library, only in my room. This is the main reason I decided against grove. If noise is not an issue for you because you can study at CMED, go to grove)
- the gym could be better, but better than not having one at all
- There was an issue with the management and students living at grove. Some students had their cars towed because they didn't register their car in time. There was also something regarding a fine for not disposing your garbage properly because they had removed a garbage bin, leaving only one dumpster for all the complexes combined. Not too sure about the issues here, but I think they would be fixed.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
What is the parking situation like for medical students? Do you need to buy a parking pass? If so, how much is it?
hey all, my portal was updated to secondary app review complete... i was wondering how long it took for people to here back for an II after having that item in your portal checked off.. thank you!
Can any current students comment on research opportunities (is there an opportunity to do some kind of scholarly concentration or thesis project), quality of clinical rotations (are medical students an active part of the team or are some rotations more like glorified shadowing) and step 1 prep (how well does the school prepare you for step 1)? Since the school is fairly new, I wasn't able to find a lot of this information online. Thank you!
So current M1 here, gonna try to go question by question.
-Research: most of our professors here are involved in research. And many M2s did research this past summer. There are opportunities but they aren't just present to you. We are also being required to do some sort of research project during our M2 year. We haven't gotten a lot of information about this yet, but quite a few M2's presented research over the summer/start of the school year. Just remember that time is of limited supply and most students don't have time to put into research.
-Clinical rotations: So during our first 2 years we have ICE sites (integrated community experience) where teams of 2 go for 2 hours every other week. The first 2 visits are basically getting familiar with the office but the last 2 for this semester (this is as much as I know) are us students going into the patient room getting their information (why they are here and all that jazz) and then presenting it to the doctor before we all go in to see the patient. We learn how to get all of this information during ECS (essentials of clinical skills) SP visits, which is every other week all semester long. The SP visits really prepared me for my visits. And our first SP visit was with a 50 something year old. And this week and next it will be with adolescents, and then with a parent and "baby" for a week child visit. SO we are being prepared for all varieties of visits. Some M2's also shadowed doctors over the summer. And the M3's said they felt very comfortable going into patient rooms now that they are at their community clerkships.
-Step 1: We have yet to receive information on how the M3s did on their Step 1, but CMU does have a ton of resources. And just this year all students were given a free copy of pathoma, a step 1 prep book with online module access. Most students also use First Aid to help study.
Any 10/16 interviewers waiting for decision? I think they mentioned 11/2 or 11/3 as the date they would meet/call to accept more applicants. Does anyone remember which date it was? I wrote it own but don't have my notes at work and don't want to be staking my phone all day.
Fire up chips?
check the portal , the results are there 🙂Going to be watching my phone all day!!! Lol😱
I interviewed 10/23...they said we were going to hear back today but I haven't!Did any 10/16 interviewers hear back yet?
Waitlisted, hope I come off the waitlist 🙂
I've heard that the earlier interview days have a ton of movement off the waitlist. Two of my friends got in off the waitlist last year!!Waitlisted this morning. Can anyone speak to the mobility of the waitlist? The email sounded optimistic.
