2015-2016 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Overall feel was very friendly and relaxed. We started with an orientation from 9-10 with information on the programs and opportunities at the university. From 10-12 we had four half-hour blocks where each applicant had a different schedule. The four blocks were: essay [ethical], interview, attend a class, and break. From 12-1:30 we ate lunch with current first year students and were given a tour of the facilities. Interview was 1-on-1 for 30 minutes, strictly. One faculty member interviewed applicants for about 10 minutes each, as was his style. Interview was open file. My interviewer had a sheet of loose leaf with (hand-written) my GPA, MCAT and what I assume were questions that she generated by looking through my application. Very conversational with typical questions. Overall very positive experience.

When you say essay, what do you mean? You had to write an essay in 30* minutes? lol

Yes. That was one of the 30-minute blocks. More of a "prompt" than an essay

Anyone know if Drexel does real rejections or the silent kind? My status did change today, really want an II here.

Out of curiosity, where in the city does the interview day occur?

Not sure if they've changed it or not, but my friend was rejected pre-interview on the portal last year pretty early. I haven't seen anyone post on here about being rejected though so I don't know if they just haven't gotten that far or changed their policy or what.

Mine still says no decision I was complete 8/06

I received the complete email on 9/15, LOR had been uploaded on 9/14. My status on the portal currently says no decision

I just called Drexel and asked if it was a silent rejection for people whose status did not change yesterday. The lady on the phone asked me for my Banner ID and she said that it does not mean a rejection, and that my file is complete, and under review by the committee. Sooo we don't have to worry about our statuses not changing on the portal. 🙂

If I remember correctly, being put on a pre-interview hold is essentially a rejection. Until then you're still in the running as far as I'm aware.

Did everyone get the "is and complete" status?

No still no decision complete since 8/06

Nope. Also still "no decision" since 08/06.

Just an FYI: Drexel has changed around it's interview process from previous years. People use to complain that it was disorganized because people would be sent to either center city or queen lane. This year, everything will be held at Queen lane. Hopefully it'll be a better/ more organized interview experience for everyone.

IIs can go out on any day at any time. I got an II a week ago around 9pm. Who sends out an II at 9pm on a Sunday? I know right. lol.

That's interesting, it was an email? not you checking the portal?? Congrats!

I don't remember exactly, I think a month ago? @studentdocftw

And @hexane19, I didn't get an e mail invitation, I was just checking my portal and saw it. the last time I checked it was about a week ago, so I got the invite somewhere between then and now.

Does anyone know what the chances are of receiving an acceptance from Drexel if offered an interview?

For OOS, around 20%. For IS, around 25%.

Does anyone know what the chances are of receiving an acceptance from Drexel if offered an interview?

EDIT: These are matriculant data...as @LuisCorinthiano alluded to, schools generally accept 2x their expected class. Though, the exact number may differ from school to school.

I applied here last year as a bit of an afterthought around Oct 1. I got the decision within 6 days. The status usually changes to something like, "we're not going to offer you an interview at this time, but will keep you in consideration" type of thing. So I would expect final decisions to start rolling out in the next two weeks or so.

Do they accept app updates?
From their website:

"May I send updates to my application?
Application updates are accepted only from students who have been invited for an interview and for those who have been interviewed and waitlisted. We will accept updated transcripts, new letters of recommendation, updates on activities and/or letters of interest."

Thanks!!!

Anyone with a II know if October 5th/7th are still available? I'll be in Philly on the 6th and was wondering whether an ITA email would be worthwhile. Thanks!

I scheduled for the 7th on Sunday night, I think there were still dates during that week when I selected mine. Not sure about now though because I can't access the calendar anymore

Anyone know the deal with this "and complete" status update?

Hadn't checked the portal in about a week - checked earlier today and my portal now has the "is and complete" status. The portal said I had everything in on 8/10 and I got the complete email 8/20.

II on 9/2. Complete on 8/7.
OOS, cGPA 3.42/sGPA 3.46, MCAT 35.
Re-applicant from California with no interviews last year...so freaking grateful for a chance this time!!
Interview set for October 22...anyone else going to be there that day?
No, but I'm super jealous. God bless you for going through the process all over again. You've earned it. Good luck!
