2015-2016 Emory University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
FYI for anyone applying from a connection outside of the USA, it's not gonna work for this secondary. I had to work some VPN magic.

Submitted my secondary today!! I think Emory is a reach for me but I'm hoping for some good news!

For the secondary, do we have to answer the boxes about our interest in public health or bioethics if we chose MD only as the program? Normally I'd say no but it's worded a little strangely.

No, they only show up if you select one of those programs. You can also go back and change your answer to it if you want to get the purely MD questions done first.

The purely MD questions are the ones under the essay tab correct? The curriculum plan, health related experiences, interest in Emory, and role of Dr. I'm talking about the questions on the "Program Select" tab, even if I select MD Only, it asks me to describe interest in public health and bioethics and to authorize the app to send the info to the corresponding Emory colleges.

There might be a malfunction in the program.

EDIT: Yep it's a malfunction. I used a different browser and they didn't show up. Thanks for the help.

So, does anyone know what is special about Emory? Any student perspectives?
I second this. Their mission statement is pretty all-encompassing, so I'm having a hard time getting a read on this place.

So many IT issues with many med school apps, not just this one. They should hire the IT department from the company I work for.

I would possibly recommend calling admissions if you've been verified for quite some time and have yet to receive a secondary. I called and it turned out there was an error affecting my application.

So my problem is Emory says they don't see my MCAT on my application, although it is loaded into AMCAS already. So that's not good :bored: Going to follow up with AAMC to check if there are any known errors like this occurring elsewhere.

So that health-related experiences question... do they expect you to repeat information from the primary? Because it's not enough space to intimately talk about a specific example...

Yo for anyone that hasn't gotten a secondary - did yall take the May MCAT? Cause I havent gotten one either, and @Pastamahn is saying it was because of his MCAT score not being on his app. I looked at my app for another school and it said on the portal they dont have an MCAT score on file for me either

Yeah I took the May MCAT. I had to have Emory call AMCAS directly to sort it out. What is the other school that doesn't have your MCAT score? And have you called them yet?

Medical College of Wisconsin for sure doesnt have mine, potentially Illinois-Chicago. I emailed AMCAS about it, waiting for a reply. I'm thinking it could be an issue with all May test takers. I might end up calling Emory/MCW tomorrow and seeing if they can figure it out, depending on what AMCAS tells me

Keep me updated. When I called AMCAS they said nothing was wrong on their end and that something was messed up on the school's end, so the school had to contact AMCAS.

EDIT: I just checked and MCW has my MCAT score. This is confusing.

Hopefully submitting tonight or tomorrow... I've been sitting on this one for two weeks! Eeek!

Apparently there is a problem with the third party software they use to access AMCAS applications. They are currently working on this and I was told to expect a secondary by Friday.

As a side note, the admissions office is extremely friendly and helpful!

I took the MCAT in January and still haven't received secondary.

I called them up and they confirmed they had my MCAT score, and to call if I didnt get one by the end of the week. No idea why MCW doesnt have mine but I'm prob gonna call em up tomorrow

I am but I'm thinking my crummy sub score is going to get me screened out :/

That's not a serious screen though - those numbers are so low, who would even apply to med school with them?

Ouch... way to make me feel worse about my 124 in CARS 😢

Yeah I'm still waiting for a secondary from Emory. Assuming that they adhere to the 123/500 cutoff, I suppose they're just behind on getting through the AMCAS applications.

Called Emory, they said that they are kinda slow this cycle. The admissions staff was very nice and said we have nothing to worry about. Interviews are not going to be sent out for a bit.

I was told I would get a secondary by the end of the week but hard not to get anxious. I really like this school and want to submit my secondary already!

That wasn't my intention so I apologize - it was an unthoughtful thing for me say

yea don't worry about the secondary, if you took the new 2015 mcat in april or may, they said it will be delayed

Secondary submitted 07/12; cheers to the waiting game, y'all. :xf:

Me neither  I think I am going to call tomorrow.

I called today. They are still working on their AMCAS download issue. It is their "#1 priority" right now.

applying here! MD/PhD! Submitted 7/6. Hope all of your scores get sorted out soon!

I think so, considering it says to repeat AMCAS information. I think they just want a brief summary of your clinical experiences as well as giving you the chance to add recent experiences.

If you are a student in Emory, could you please elaborate on the school-specific programs, the specialty tracks, and experience working in the neighboring hospitals? While I understand that medical schools should have the similar programs and opportunities, the ones on the website seem to be commonplace, and I am worried that my essay might be seen as a "copy-and-paste."
