2015-2016 Georgetown University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You need to stop posting this all over the place. School-specific threads are not the appropriate locations to look for this kind of advice. Try the "what are my chances" area instead. Also- your score is not good. Like it or not, the MCAT is considered to "level the playing field" for people coming from different schools.
+1 posting it on EVERY single school's thread is basically spam.......

I applied in the beginning of July and just got a bunch of secondary requests back so I was thinking about how to address it in my secondaries... it's too late to not apply now because I already did lol. I just wanted advice going forward. I realize I'm not in the top percent of applicants but I have other things to offer (like strong GPA and strong extracurriculars).. If I don't get in this year I will definitely take the new exam but I want to see if I can get in this cycle before doing that.
I would still not apply this year - your app is not complete till you send the secondary in, so if it were me I would cut the process to avoid having to reapply and be labelled a re-applicant (and have to write 100% new secondaries, which would majorly suck)

Why would I have to write completely new secondaries? Also, being labelled a re-applicant isn't a horrible thing? I know tons of MDs & DOs who didn't get in their first time...

Generally to be a successful re applicant you cannot reuse essays. At least in my understanding. If you search (top right) there are lots of posts that are similar to this situation. I don't think you're liking my advice so I'm going to stop now, but honestly just trying to help.

Did they send an email? Or did you check the portal?

Currently says "your application is under review" in the portal for me. Fingers crossed

Just received a rejection also! I was complete on the 26th of July. Doesn't hurt that bad... glad they told me.

Edit: via email

Has anyone that has submitted mid-late July received an II? It looks like the last II has been 7-15, but people who have submitted later are receiving rejections.

Same, complete 7/17, nothing yet, so I'm assuming we're just kind of on an unofficial hold.

I think we should stay positive. They clearly looked at the applications completed up to July 26th, which is the latest complete date for rejections. There have ONLY been rejections handed out for complete dates between July 15th to July 26th (the Aug 5 submitted one doesn't count because it's too much of an anomaly), so if you were complete between this period of time and hadn't heard anything, it probably means you've passed some sort of screen, since they read your file and did not reject you. So I don't think on hold is the right phrase for our current status. More like "applicant pool for potential IIs" :luck::luck::luck:

Rejected just now. Complete 7/17. Top choice 🙁

Submitted yesterday, no way am I getting an interview. They probably won't even get around to reading my app until october

Awww man, I just realized I had a spelling mistake in my Why Georgetown Essay.....dang it. I proofread that ten times. I also had a spelling mistake in my primary. I know its minor, but I can't help, but feel a school that gets as many apps as Georgetown are willing to overlook multiple spelling errors......ahhhhhhhhh, wanted to get an II so bad

I know how you feel. I filled out my primary the day it came out and proofread it every other day. The day after I submit it I found a spelling error! Haha! Go figure.... but I still got a GU interview, so try not to worry

Wish they had an appeals process. I guess it's nice to have clarity.

Does anyone happen to have information on the number of offers that Georgetown extends, compared to the number of students that matriculate? It's difficult to find information on the number of students accepted post-interview.

I found that this website gives very good information like that about medical schools (if it is made available):

Rejected as well 11 days ago, it was a reach though, since I live in the area

First rejection =( this one hurt ... Gluck to those waiting!

Found this thread late in the game and freaked a bit and ended up submitting 8/5, but just heard back for II today!
Congrats!
I just submitted 8/9 and already found 2 typos in my essay, so I'm a bit unoptimistic 🙁

Any other 7/17-ers still in the running and waiting?

submitted 7/19, still waiting 🙂

what does it mean if, on the secondary status page, there's a new row called "invited to interview" with a red exclamation point and "interview invite not made yet"? does anyone else see this?

I just noticed that too. I think they just added it because it is the next step on the checklist. I don't think it indicates anything about getting an II.

I got really excited at first but I think this is the correct conclusion. If none of us had it an hour ago and we all do now, and the wording doesn't imply an invite, it probably doesn't mean anything.

Yup it looks like they made these two new lines

Invited to Interview

Interview invite not yet made.
An admissions decision has been made

And that was a REJECT
