2015-2016 Ohio State University Application Thread

@evansh no letter but I did send in an additional letter of recommendation. That was kind of a coincidence tho - my boss at work only saw my request for a letter months later and uploaded an additional one to amcas so I threw it in the mix. I think @Rainbow Zebra got accepted without doing anything. My personal theory is we were deferred at first because we are both from Michigan LOL. I'm like 95% kidding and 5% serious bc why would you defer and accept two weeks later??? But I digress

I think they accept the top XX of applicants each round, and @rsrs and I were -1 and -2. When the next round came, we both percolated above the line.
I didn't do anything, the acceptance just came as a "check your status", I didn't get a phone call.

As RSRS says, OSU likes to "tweak" the Michiganders first before they accept us.

Would you describe the Osucom community as collaborative and close knit?

Very. The facebook group for each class is very active, perhaps too active sometimes, but people are always uploading study guides or compiled notes. Not just within a class either, the M3s and M4s pop by to offer advice and share their notes/anki decks/study materials. Obviously you'll make friends and have your own study groups, but there's always a friendly face around in the library or wherever. Just today we gave out our block awards, the Candy Apple award, for people who go above and beyond when it comes to helping out their classmates.

The atmosphere and the students is one of the major deciding factors why I chose Ohio State, and why I care who is being selected to follow in our footsteps. We want people who will maintain that same feeling when we're gone.

Really enjoyed my interview day here. Felt like my interview with the student was average - above average, and interview with faculty was great. Do you guys know if OSU is still accepting people for the class and not just for the waitlist at this point? I know it is quite late in the game.

When I had my interview I felt like my student interviewer kicked my ass but the faculty one went well. And as far as interviewing for the waitlist, later interviewees might not have quite the same change as earlier ones but I think it's unlikely that they are interviewing to add to their waitlist. Considering Ohio State they probably already have a pretty large and impressive list of waitlisted students.

Nothing has changed, we're still accepting people at the same rate we have all season, and will continue to do so until the last group of interviewees have had a chance to be voted on.

my friend interviewed in march and was accepted.

Thanks for the reassurance. I suppose there's nothing to do except wait for decision day. Did either of you get a call from Dr. Capers or was it strictly via portal?

I still don't understand how their secondary system works and if I am rejected or not. There are like 2 portals.

I was called three days prior to when they told us we'd hear. I haven't received an email from my faculty interviewer yet like someone else did tho :/

Dr. Capers called me early in the morning, granted, but this was of course years ago. The timing of his calls is entirely dependent on his schedule, which is quite busy.

Also, interviewers are encouraged to email their accepted interviewees, but it isn't required. Some do it in bulk at a later date, some don't do it at all.

Does anyone know when rejections go out?

Yeah, same question here, although with respect to interviewees. Do they reject anyone before April 30 or does everyone who interviewed get deferred>waitlisted? I don't think I've seen people report many post-interview rejections so far?

Any other deffered students got an email from financial aid that they've been selected for verification?

Hey guys I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the anatomy course and if it's too late to register at this point. The email is pretty ambiguous and just says that it's available from February 8th through July 1st.

Are II still going out?
I emailed admissions a couple of days ago and they said interview invites will be sent out up until late March so yes. I'm assuming they won't be big batchs of IIs and probably just a couple of applicants at a time trying to fill the last spots. I could be wrong though.

Submitted secondary in early August and still have not heard an interview or rejection. Confirmed with the office that my application was somehow still under review.

Is Ohio state receptive to updates/interest letters/anything to say please give me an interview ily

No unfortunately. I tried to update pre-interview and they (very politely) told me they only accept updates once an applicant has been invited for an interview.

Anyone know when the next round of acceptances go out?

The 2/17 interviewees were told that decision would be available on 3/8 but the "Interview Complete" letter from Dr. Capers on the portal says that the decision will be available in approximately 10 business days (3/2). Anyone have insight on this?

Mine was 10 days!

Mine also said 10 days, but the day they gave me at the interview was tomorrow. I haven't heard yet.

Congratulations to all of you that have been accepted so far!

Wanted to ask students already here, are there any summer research programs for those that want to get acclimated to Columbus before starting medical school?

I'm an accepted student and haven't heard back from the FA office at all....for those of you accepted, have you heard anything from them?

Just checked the portal, deferred. Third time interviewing at OSU, third time deferred. Hopefully not third time rejected, absolutely love this school.

Just checked the portal as well, also deferred 🙁 this is my first choice school, is there any significant chance to be accepted?

Rejected post II. **** stings but I knew it was coming. Had a really rough student interviewer so I knew I'd see rejection after I walked out of the room.

Sorry to hear. Does anybody know when the meetings are? Meaning, which days of the week could it possible be hearing anything if they accept deferred applicants at some point?

To my knowledge they release decisions officially on Tuesdays but may call the day before or a few days before. And when I interviewed they mentioned that deferred applicants are re-reviewed every two weeks.
