2015-2016 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you who haven't submitted your secondaries and are worried about the issues with formatting that are arising from copy/paste: Go ahead and type it up in NotePad/TextEdit, whatever it may be. Hit the preview button it has next to submit, and it'll show you exactly which characters are problematic. Close the preview, go back to the main page, and then replace those symbols within the text box given. It might take longer, but if you're seriously worried about it messing with your chances getting in, I'm sure it's worth it to you! I'm pretty sure just apostrophes and quotation marks are giving trouble, but it should work for anything, it did for me!

Submitted! OOS, but lived in Ohio for several years. Good luck everyone!

@wagonwheel23 , I feel like you're applying to a lot of the same schools I am 😛

I've had this secondary for a little over two weeks now, aiming to finish it by tomorrow which will put me up to 24/29 schools done.

You got me beat I`m down to 21 out of 25' 29 would send me over the edge unless I could recycle some of these essays.

Does anyone else's status say received for both primary and secondary apps but then no MCAT scores are listed? :/

Has anyone with only new MCAT scores received a secondary yet?

Just got an email notifying me of a status change, but the password they instructed me to enter doesn't work. D:

Make sure you are using the last letter of your last name and not the first letter of your last name. That was my mistake and I didn't realize it until I called.

Whoa, you're completely right. I got into the status page; it just says they received my secondary. Thanks!

For any of those still confused about the missing MCAT 2015 scores: Their website has not been updated to display that information, and they have all the MCAT scores that AMCAS has (even if the status website only has old MCAT scores). So all of us 2015'ers are set!

Where do we go to check the status of our application?

Anyone else not get a secondary yet? In state student, got MCAT scores early last week, and primary application was verified in early June...

Do they send an actual "application complete" email? Or do your letters appear on the status page when they download them? I received a "status change" email but I assumed that was just when they marked my secondary as received.

Anyone else a ***** like me? I managed to get locked out of my account a second time >.<
First, I couldn't remember the password they made me change to, and the security questions I answered were never right (case and space sensitive)
so I emailed to reset my pw
they gave me a temp, and i was prompted to change the pw. Tried to come up with a password that met their specific standards, was locked out again after several attempts at making a password again... ugh, the fates conspire against me

So, I was in the admissions office taking care of some business and heard Dr. Capers say that they are discontinuing the anatomy requirement for the 2015-2016 application cycle and beyond---he said their internal study showed that it was not necessary in our new curriculum (which is awesome btw--the past 2 classes have rocked Step 1!!!). I believe they will officially announce this via social media and the admissions web page the first week of August. So if the anatomy requirement was holding you back from applying, get your app in! OSU is a great place to be!

Secondary received and I'm complete as of yesterday! Would love love love an interview, almost went here for undergrad and I love Columbus and the campus, but alas, out of state tuition wasn't exactly in my budget. MCAT is a little on the low side with a 30, but 3.94/3.93 GPAs will hopefully show that I'm more than just one test!
Don't let out of state tuition scare you! After the first year, almost all of the out of staters (I honestly don't know anyone who hasn't gotten it) get residency and then have in state tuition. Yeah, it sucks to pay the extra money the first year, but it is worth it.

If the anatomy requirement was holding anyone back, they shouldn't be interested in going to med school at all...

It was holding me back, luckily OSU offered the free online course if you get accepted so I wasn't worried. Some people choose to get extra majors or minors and simply have no room in their schedule for anatomy (at least that was the case for me).

Yes I get that, I was unable to fit it in during my undergrad too, but with the online class available, it's super easy to do it.

I didn't even get a status change email! I got nothing, the form is just marked as "submitted" when I login...

I got an email a few days after submitting my secondary that said there was a change in the status of my application. The change was that it had been received and was under review. So yes, they do send an email!

How do you know it's under review? My portal says AMCAS received, secondary received, but it doesn't say "complete" or "under review." Is there an actual "under review" status on yours?

Anyone else having issues accessing the supplemental application?

My connection keeps timing out after following the link they sent with their email. I've been trying to no avail this whole day (different computers, web browser, etc).

I'm done with my essays I just want to turn them in!

Also, if anyone was wondering..... they accept more than 2 LOR. The admission office told me that they receive about 4-6 LOR per student. Just in case, since it was not very clear in the school's website.

Side question: do you guys think adcoms read into saying "i will blahblahblah" vs "I would/hope blahblahblah"?
In other words, does it come off as presumptuous if I say "I will [something about what I'd do as a doctor]?

I don't think so. If anything, using a combination of both will prevent repetition issues.

For people that received II, when were you complete?

I have limited internet connection right now, but based off my emails I think I was complete on the 22nd

Out of curiosity, on the status page, is there anywhere to check and see if they have received your letters?
