2015-2016 Pennsylvania State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone know if people on pre-interview holds received interview invites? Not sure if I should wait for nothing or just withdraw for ease of mind

Would also like to know this

Nope! No additional info tab either. Weird that those after 11/11 have been hearing back.

There are several admissions committee, some of those that are hearing before you

As I looked around last year's thread I noticed some people were given II in early January and even in February. Not sure how many of them were on hold, but it's worth waiting it out. You never know 🙂

For those who were interested to know: Interviewed 11/6, Additional Info 12/18, and Acceptance Mail Received 12/26.

What should we be expecting after sending in the acknowledgement of acceptance form and the deposit?

1 day after they receive your acknowledgement of acceptance, you will see a "Accepted Survey" tab showing up. There would be no notification email.

You'll expect an email about the receipt of the deposit stating your seat will be held for 2016 Incoming class

Thanks! Would the email regarding the receipt of the deposit come in within the same one-day timeframe as well?

Anybody who has been accepted--- are you interested in creating a Penn State College of Medicine Class of 2020 Facebook page? If so, message me and I can friend you and create one?

Update: I started one with a few people so far. Here is the link if you want to join! https://www.facebook.com/groups/928654270545288/

Sorry to be annoying, but what dates are open?
Haha no worries! This morning they were scheduling through the first week in February (some late January stuff was still open but I couldn't make it then), and I imagine they'll just open up dates later in the month as they go along. I hope that's helpful!

@eastergrab were you placed on pre II hold?
Nope! I was complete early August here and hadn't heard a thing until today.

Update:
I found it 🙂 Awesome of you to do this!

Sure thing! I figured it would be a nice way to start socializing/help each other out in any way before starting in the summer! 🙂

Almost 7 weeks since my interview on 11/18! Still no response 🙁

If anyone on this thread interviewed on 11/18 and received the additional info tab, please let us know. THANKS 🙂

Interviewed 11/9, got an email today for post-interview hold. No additional tab in portal, and no update about the hold either.

Interviewed 11/13, additional info tab 12/30, acceptance in the mail 1/4 (letter dated 12/30)!

also, I had called last week and the woman said not to worry for the November dates that hadn't heard yet - she said the holidays were delaying decisions because the committee isn't meeting as often as they normally do!

Interviewed 11/6, post-interview hold 1/5 🙁

someone please give me hope..
Hey, it was not a rejection, so there's hope! In the 2014-15 thread, a good number of people reported getting off the hold list and that was just the people who wrote it on SDN - there were probably even more people who didn't write it. 🙂

Any response yet for those that interviewed on 11/18?

Post-interview hold 1/5 as well. In the email it says:

"You should be aware that a subsequent decision will be based on the information presently contained in your file with the exception of updated official transcript records."

Does that mean that if there is an updated transcript they won't look at it, or does it mean that an updated transcript is the only new material they will accept? The wording isn't clear to me. Thanks!

The latter - it means the only new material they will look at is your updated transcript.

I'm currently in a pre-interview hold as of 10/20. Does anyone know how long will they continue to review applications and take you off a pre-interview hold? Thanks!

Did anyone recently get an "additional tab" this week?

It's sad to say but I believe those that interviewed in Mid November or earlier and haven't heard back are being placed on hold! 🙁

didn't someone post just the other day that they spoke to someone on the phone and that person said not to worry if you haven't heard if you had a mid-novem because of the holidays? I wouldn't worry until you have something that actually says accept, hold, reject.

I believe to this email: [email protected]

Official transcripts need to be sent in a sealed envelope so it needs to be sent to the physical mailing address of the admissions office at the medical school. I believe someone posted the mailing address a few posts before this one 🙂

Additional info tab added today!
Interviewed on 11/18

I was put on pre-II hold in October. I have since received an acceptance at another school, but I have Penn State ranked higher on my list. Should I send a letter with this info? Call or something? Does anyone know how receptive they are to updates like this? Thanks!

I don't think telling another school you have ben accepted somewhere else is a good update...but thats just my opinion

Please do not inform the school you wish to attend that you have been accepted elsewhere. The reaction will be: 1. Good for you, I hope you have a happy four years at school x, 2. Good for you! (sarcasm), or 3. Your hold has now been turned into a rejection. I am not yet a medical student and I am not an adcom, but I teach university and thus I am familiar with how people in education think. Send updates every month with stated interest. Best of luck!

I think you should tell them that youve been accepted elsewhere but would much rather attend this school because of fit/preference. That's what letters of intent are for.

One should only send a letter of intent post-ii, as it is illogical to state your intent to attend without first being invited for an interview. Updates with stated interest in the school at hand should be sent pre-ii. Just because the OP was accepted to another school does not mean that Penn St. will or should feel obliged to invite him/her for an interview. It can be seen as grandiose/pretentious to say, "Hey Penn St., school 'x' loved me, therefore, you should reconsider your unpopular opinion and love me too. I'll be expecting a favorable email shortly". When/if the OP is invited for an interview, then he/she could explain (during the interview or post-ii) why Penn St. takes precedence over all other acceptances. But I'm just a guy on the internet.

I misunderstood-- thought post-interview. But, i still don't think mentioning it in an interest/update letter is ill-advised. It's all in how you say it, in my opinion, and whether they accept updates pre II.
