2015-2016 Rutgers University - RWJMS Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How long did it take from submission for people to be complete (hoping to be complete with casper by august 4). Thanks in advanced!

I'm not sure if anyone earlier answered this, but what is the deal with the part 1 text limit? Can we resize the box, or just write what you can fit in?

It is possible to resize the boxes. Given the formatting, it can be hard to increase the size of some of the boxes. Are you not caspering?

I'm still debating about the casper, but I was referring to Part 1 of the application, sorry if I wasn't clear.

maybe a bit uncouth, but i just deleted the text boxes and typed my answers below each question...

So to clarify: do they start reviewing your application even before CASPer? But II's will only go out after they receive your CASPer scores? I'm taking it on the 16th and it seems super late but there are only a limited amount of dates for it. Thanks!

I took it on July 15. Just called Casper Friday and they said it will take few more weeks to process scores and send them. So it will be about 5 to 6 weeks after test date before scores are released. Which is totally crazy! How does the school know that you chose to do Casper and not just taking your time with the regular secondary? Last year IIs came out 2nd week of August which they will clearly not be able to do this year.

For anyone wondering about the resizing of text boxes - I'm assuming it's totally ok. I did this last year on my secondary and got past the secondary screening/was eventually accepted, so don't worry about that. Sadly I can't help about anything Casper related since that's brand new! Good luck to all of you applying this year.

Are you at RWJMS as a student now?

Hey Guys! Current M1 at RWJMS. I'll answer any questions you guys might have about the school 🙂

Where do most medial students live?
Most students line in a housing complex called Society Hill. It's very nice and only about 7-10 minutes from the school depending on traffic and time of day. Students also tend to live in the town of Highland Park which is around the same distance from the campus.

If you want to live in in campus housing the Rutgers Busch Campus has some grad housing you can consider

Why did you choose RWJMS?
To be honest, I originally applied to every school that was within my distance range from my family, fit my test scores/GPA range/ that I could afford.

However, as I got to know more about the school the more I like it. It is very student centered. The administration wants you to succeed. They have weekly formative assessments that test your knowledge of the material taught previously. The lectures are put online so you can learn at the pace and style that works best for you.

Students are given so much clinical exposure starting from the first week. This week, our first full week, we learned to give patient interviews and had a Lynch Syndrome patient come in and speak to us about his condition, and we chose out preferences for the clinical off-sites we need to do in our first year. They have clinical exposure written in the curriculum. On top of this we can have the chance to become student doctors at Promise Clinic, where we treat under privileged community members in a free clinic.

At this point I should point out that it is "not the prettiest school in the world," as the current M2's there liked to point out to us in our interviews. It's a great school to come to.

Thanks for the response! I think that was very informative and honest. I definitely think it's a great school and you pointed out a handful of reasons for me to believe more so.

Thanks. Could you confirm that these are good ballpark numbers for rent in that area? I just want to have a good idea of how I would spend on rent.

Anyone else having issues with CASPer again D= I can't use any of the links to log in or start the test.

Same here! I got to the start page and it wouldn't let me click the start button.

I am honestly about to just say "F@&% it" I will fill out the optional essays. This is my second attempt to take this, I had the same issues in July

Last time you took it, did you get locked out after the time limit and forced to reschedule?

No I did not wait that long, I emailed them about the issue and when they responded they said it would be at least 30-45 minutes before I could take the test. I had other obligations that I could not be late to so I rescheduled it then. I am not sure what happens if the timer runs out. Although since this isn't our faults I would assume they will let us reschedule.

This is so obnoxious. How have they not fixed this problem yet after experiencing this a month ago?!

Gotcha. I emailed them and they have yet to respond, but seeing as there's 1 minute left and I still can't login, I guess I'll reschedule and shoot an email to RWJMS if we should just send the secondary or wait to take the test.

I emailed them and this is the response I got from CASPer:
Hi there,

Please note that we are currently experiencing a longer than usual time to login and to start the test. The test time has been extended so that you may start the test between 12:00PM EST to 1:00PM EST. You will still have 90 minutes to complete the test.

We will continually update you to let you know our progress. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Altus Assessment Team.

I agree completely, and they did not even send a courtesy email out this time, like they did in July.

+1
I also got one 20 minutes ago that extended the start time from 12 to 12:20pm.

Scratch that, just got into Casper randomly.

Well that is encouraging! Although I would have loved to know what RWJ thinks about all of this if you had emailed them.

Those prices are for Society Hill in Jersey City. You want to look for Society Hill in Piscataway. I think you'll be much happier with the prices 😉 I believe that most students pay $600ish (give or take $100) for a room in a house of several rooms there? I could be wrong. I don't live there, so I'm not the best source for all things Society Hill.

Mine stopped working after the first section. And the first video lagged so it had like a stuttering effect the whole time

i am two questions in and this is not working. i am just going to stop trying and write the other essays and email RWJ to explain why my casper was so disastrous.

I'll stick it out just a bit longer, but will do the same if this gets too ridiculous.

I got through like 3 sections of the CASPer miraculously and then on the 4th video it stopped working again. :bang:
Suddenly that other part 2 secondary isn't looking so bad anymore.

I am still waiting for the test video but if you guys are still having issues even after you get into the test then I think I am going to just fill out the essays as well. It says that the CASPer is "strongly encouraged" on the second part of the essays, but if it was absolutely required they would not have given us the option.
