2015-2016 Stanford University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone else super nervous about their interview? Mine is in a little over a week and the MMI format is incredibly scary!

Finally got a secondary on Saturday.

I noticed there has been MSTP rejections, but does anyone know if there has been MD rejections? thanks

Got an II here this past saturday! Submitted 8/26, LizzyM 74-77. The only dates offered were all the way out in December -- we'll see how the California weather is in the winter months.

Has anyone interviewed here yet? And if so would you mind sharing impressions? I go in a little over two weeks and I'm super nervous! Would love to hear how people found the MMI experience

I think MMI is a test - making it easier to select the right candidate for Stanford - the top school.

That is strange, the only other things would be a felony conviction or you are not a US citzen?

Just wondering, is not being a US citizen a detriment to ones application?

Because if it is, it would explain a lot regarding the lack of response I am getting from 99.9% of schools... ah well...

Hi all,

I have an upcoming interview here and I was hoping someone who had already gone on interview here could explain:

are we allowed to take notes from the prompt and take it into the room with us?
I'm just wondering bc I feel like it would be really hard to remember the details of the prompt and also come up with a coherent response in 2 minutes.

Are you a permanent resident or an international student?

*Bump*

I would also love to know the answer to this question!
Also, adding another question of my own, Does anyone know Stanford's policy on writing thank you notes after interviews... Will all the MMI raters give you their contact info or do you just thank the whole adcom generally?

Thanks!

Basically don't try to send thank-yous for MMIs. It just doesn't make much sense. No one will really remember you anyway, so kinda pointless.

But no, they're not gonna all give you their contact info. That's madness! Sending a general letter to the office is also kinda pointless since they're not gonna forward it on to everyone and so the note loses its purpose altogether.

Hi... is anyone else unable to access the pre-MMI applicant portal (with further details, etc.)? I sent them an email about it 2 weeks ago but do not anticipate a reply soon 😛

To those of you who have interviewed already, did you find that it was worth it to attend the 7pm "social gathering" the evening before the interview? I will be with my friend (and host) in SF all day, and am debating whether it is worth it to rush back in time to make this.

I really enjoyed meeting other students and interviewees and thought it made the actual interview day much more comfortable.

I feel like if I haven't heard yet from a top-tier school (Harvard, Yale, Penn, Stanford, Hopkins, etc.), it's unlikely that there's one coming. Is that a fair assumption? Just don't want to keep the hopes up unrealistically.

Does your host live in San Francisco? If they live in Palo Alto, I would definitely encourage going (and showing up a little early--many people were already there by the time I showed up a few minutes after 7). You'll talk to a few students on interview day, but definitely not as many.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll make a point of going. My host lives closer to Stanford than SF.

Edit: What did people wear?

Can't assume anything until the bitter end. Sucks, but true.

I would definitely recommend it. This is where I learned the most about Stanford and student life. Not as many opportunities during interview day to interact w/ students, besides lunch.

When in November do we think Stanford will release their first decisions?
Last year it was November 14... I think Stanford started interviewing earlier this year, so we might hear as early as this Friday 😵

Yup. Complete 8/21 and haven't heard a word... Although, my complete email says that they interview Sept through April. So I guess there's quite a bit of time left for II's. 🤔
There's still time. A friend of mine actually heard from them recently. Don't lose hope! 🙂

Out of curiosity, have they been actively rejecting applicants? I remember seeing a few back in late July/early August, but can't recall seeing any since.

I, too, am curious about this. It's been silence since my secondary was turned in (even though they sent me endless reminders to turn it in -_-). I would have suspected a rejection by now if I'm not being contemplated :\

wow this is way earlier than they told us! On our interview day they said near the end of November/early December. Now I'm nervous haha.

I'm just guessing that they could tell us this Friday. When I interviewed, they said that decisions would start coming out mid-November, every Friday evening.

I believe Stanford doesn't reject until Feb/March, but I'm not 100% sure.
