2015-2016 Stanford University Application Thread

Honestly, there won't be many cheap hotels nearby. Check out comfort inn a little north of Stanford on el camino real. My family stayed there during my graduation. It was relatively cheap and a very nice place. You'll either need to catch a bus or rent a car while you're there

No cab? Thanks for the suggestion!

Tried my hardest to search this question beforehand but no dice, sorry if this is repeat.

If my career goal is clinical epidemiology research along with patient care, would I check "academic medicine" or "public health"? I'd probably do a Scholarly concentration in Clinical Research with an Application in Prevention Research or Global Health, along with a Master's in Epidemiology. I want to do research, but at the population level, so I can't decided which to pick. Thanks!

@rolwz
That is a hard one. Maybe you could talk about public health being your main goal, and the research in relation to public health

Wow I'm dumb. It's already August 8. Ok nvm I think @timsk submitted 8/5 and got the secondary 8/6. Lmao I'm dumb
yup, thats what i did. Was wondering why you had an issue with my date! 🙂

I just thought it was still July 🙁 🙁 🙁
Sorry for the noobiness

Lol so I printed my app and two essays were swapped and didn't match the prompts. Lemme just cross this one off my list now...

Applied to this school on a whim...got the secondary and am highly tempted to just not fill it out because I don't think I have any semblance of a real chance. 🙁 3.64/33 and not URM. What do you guys think?

Similar stats here and doing it (MSTP too) anyways because you never know until you try haha. Also hoping that my app may be selected for its "roundness". Someone's got to be at that 10% mark, so it might as well be us!

On a side note, does anybody know if you are still considered for MD if rejected from MSTP?

Yes.

Something similar happened to me and I contacted them. They were of no help. :/

Yes yes yes I agree completely with this ^^^^^ have similar stats as both of you and I applied to Stanford (MD only) as well as many other schools as MSTP. I got an interview a few days ago from one of my reach schools which completely surprised me so I'm a huge advocate of "you really never know if you don't try" 🙂

@pineapplecake Congratulations!!!

Also I love your username -- Currently in Taiwan and I am going to bring a case of 100 with me when I go back to the States

Hahaha thank you :happy: Omg. Taiwanese pineapple cakes are THE BEST!! Especially the Chia Te brand ones hehe so jealous you're in Taiwan right now 🙈

Congrats! When were you complete?

Yo congrats! That's amazing. Good luck on the interview. Do you mind sharing when you submitted?

Complete in mid-July. Thanks for the well wishes - best of luck to all still waiting!

II this morning! Thrilled, until I realized that they only gave me one date to chose and I'll be abroad that week. I tried calling their MMI coordinator, but there was no response. Should I just send them an email?

Congrats!! And yes 🙂 Email and then maybe call again? It doesn't seem like Stanford is very receptive to emails based on some previous posters' comments but perhaps they will be nicer now that you have II

Thanks! Same to you! I'm definitely going to email them and call again later. Hopefully, I can figure it out quickly.

i know some people who still have yet to receive a secondary. i know everyone gets one, but you guys think maybe they stagger them based on what type of student theyre looking for? or they just send them in batches randomly?

Yeah I'm still waiting as well. People are already getting interviews and we haven't even received the secondary!

Update: They responded by email in one minute. Scheduled for October 6th. Really excited. The only problem was that I already scheduled another interview for the 5th, so I had to email the school to change it by one week. Hope it's not a big deal.

lol so basically they ignore all the stupid emails that aren't important and only respond to the pressing ones haha

Did anyone else get an email reminding you to complete their secondary?
I've had my secondary since the 15th. After seeing the email today, I thought I should probsssss hurry up and submit already since they "STRONGLY urge" that we submit ASAP O_O
Is this just a friendly reminder or do we really need to submit ASAP lol...I'm not satisfied with my essays...

It would behoove you to submit ASAP some Stanford is moving quickly and interview spots are drying up before you've even joined the queue.

Congrats to everyone who got interviews! 🙂 I wonder if they check apps in chronological order or if it's more of a random process.

In general, I feel like higher stats get flagged for review first at a lot of institutions. Although, this could just be my skewed perception.

I 10000% agree with this statement. Just what I've picked up from watching individual secondary threads. It seems like both order of completion AND stats/fit for school play a roll.

They don't ask about what you wrote in your primary or secondary during interviews right since it's MMI?

Struggling to answer the curriculum prompt since I'm doing MD/PhD. I feel like the PhD makes the scholarly concentration kind of irrelevant.
