2015-2016 SUNY - Buffalo Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I guess like 60/144 of the students matriculated last year came from the WNY area. Can anyone confirm this?

This email provided that they are beginning reviews now, the last email did not state it was entering a review.

Wow good catch, I'm currently running around an ED on my phone so I just skimmed quick. Thanks!

Yeah I got a complete email like 2 weeks ago and just got another complete email...any idea why? Was hoping it was an II and got excited :/

I got 2 complete emails within an hour of each other....Noticed that the first one had an error -- "Our last interview day of the year is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2015."...In the next email it was fixed

Hoping for the best! Timeline-wise this year seems very similar to last year, so hopefully we see IIs in the next few days!

I think UB is pretty preferential to their own students

Also, nearly 1/2 of last years class were WNY natives, the area where UB is. Those are staggering stats

I'm more curious towards their overall acceptance numbers, not just matriculates. For example, say I'm from eastern LI, applied broadly to all NY schools, and got into Stony Brook (maybe Hofstra would be a better comparison) and UB. The average person probably would prefer to stay in their area, which they've already established, than move 8-9 hours north-west.

I think that's why those numbers seem so staggering.

I agree. I personally know a handful of matriculants to UB med who could have chosen to go elsewhere for medical school but ultimately decided against it. All of them cite having strong ties to the area as the main deciding factor in choosing UB. Also, the weather really is not for everyone, and I imagine a lot of non-WNY acceptees took that into consideration. As for the WNYers, well, we're used to it.

The weather was my ultimate choice against going to UB's arch program, I went south instead and enjoyed sunshine and beaches 😀 Now, I don't care. Medical school is medical school!

haha Yeah I'm sure thats true. I attend UB now as an undergrad and I've been told by several advisers and professors on the adcom that UB is pretty much in it to train local doctors and get them to stay in the area since the surrounding area is pretty underserved. they even have full ride tuition scholarships for WNY natives to get them to stay. You're probably right, but I know for a fact that UB loves to keep locals, and your chances are definitely higher as a NY resident, and even higher as a WNY native.

Anyone else staring at their email hoping to hear some good news today?!

What are the secondary prompts? Are there any essays?

Im 95% sure I submitted by secondary a week ago or so, but when I go to the first secondary invite email and log in, its as if I can do it again. Even prompts the UNDERSTOOD thing
Anyone else get this?

Called them and they told me it will take anywhere from a few hours till tomorrow for the system to update.
Thank you for doing that, I came here to ask about the same thing.

I can't use the "check application status" link, it says URL is not trusted. anyone else having this issue?

Found this on their website and thought it may interest some of you.
"The admissions committee received 4,201 applications from the prospective class of 2018, up from 4,090 the year before. Of those applications, the committee sent only 311 acceptance letters to enroll the 144-member class."

Its funny that you can tell us UB undergrads just by the fact that we call it UB instead of SUNY Buffalo

Yep, UB does random review. But on last year's thread the first few IIs reported were for applications completed earlier on in the cycle, so I was wondering if that were the case too.
Ahhh. okay Cool. I was complete July 7th, submitted July 4th, and haven't heard anything yet. MCAT 525, cgpa 3.99. If that helps.

So just to clarify, they don't send you a complete email after you complete? Because there is no "complete page"... It just sends me to the secondary portal a second time?

How the hell did I get an interview at Pritzker before UB? Come on UB, I GO HERE!? Show me some Buff-a-love!!
