2015-2016 University of Maryland Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Looking at last years thread not many March interviewees were accepted. Are most spots taken now? Do late interviews automatically mean lower wait list spots compared to a wait list earlier the cycle?

It's hard to tell because there are few applicants post their acceptances on sdn. If you look at the class of 2019, the school offered 340 acceptances, but we probably see <40 acceptances posted here.

Just got my pre-II rejection via snail mail - been on hold since November so I'm not surprised! Congrats to everyone going here, it's a great school!

Could someone post the link to the facebook page? I can't seem to find it..

Thanks! 🙂

Just curious, does anyone know how many have been accepted from the waitlist historically each year, or how much waitlist turnover there is in general?

Just got my rejection letter in the mail after being put on hold back in November. This one hurt quite a bit.

Anyone know if there's a reason why they call some people but send letters to others for an acceptance?

Haven't heard a peep since them telling me they weren't sure if they wanted to interview me back in Nov/Dec.

Just got an interview invite this morning! (I am in-state; previously put on hold in November)

Invite came via e-mail, oddly. FYI, they are booking for the week of March 21-25 now.

Per AAMC rules, all spots in the matriculating class must be given out by March 15. So I'm guessing you are interviewing for the waitlist?

I applied to MD/MS Clinical Research program, and my application complete in early December (late...I know!). I received a letter from the Master's portion yesterday dated 03.04.16 saying I was not offered an interview for the MS program and that my application was going back to the SOM for consideration as an MD only applicant. The letter also said that if I'm accepted, to contact them in my first year if I want to re-apply for the MS.

AAMC states that they must have given out a number acceptances at least equal to the number of students they wish to have in their matriculating class--the vast majority of schools have already accepted a number greater than that. There are other schools that interview through early April and give out acceptances to those interviewees soon thereafter.

That's possible, but it is better than nothing! Not everyone who is offered a spot up front will accept it.

It says in the acceptance packet that the Immunization and Medical History is due within 8 weeks of receiving the acceptance. This can't actually be that serious, right? I'm about to send mine in >3 months of receiving it.

Mine was late too--- still have to get another TB test. I e-mailed the Health office and they said just try to get everything in by the end of march, and send anything else you already have in ASAP.

Accepted via snail mail on friday 👍 Anyone know how financial aid is for OOS students?

Fill out the FAFSA asap. They're supposed to send out financial aid information on 3/15 (or sometime this week). If you check the thread from last year's cycle, there are a few OOS people who talk about financial aid packages - you might be able to reach out to one.

Thanks - I completed FAFSA already since they told us to on interview day. Good to know that OOS'ers have gotten some finaid love. I'll try to seek someone out, thanks again.

I can't promise it's love, but they should let you know where you stand at least sometime soon 🙂

How are we notified about financial aid. Is it via email or portal? I also still have to get that second TB test done too.

Thanks! Interviewed mid January and 32 MCAT, ~3.6 cGPA, ~3.8 sGPA

Just wondering, what state do you live in? Why did it take about two months for your letter of acceptance to arrive, as opposed to most people on this forum, who got their letters in a month or less. Also, were you waitlisted or put on hold at any point?

NJ, and I was not waitlisted. Acceptance letter was dated 3/1.. You would need to ask the admissions committee on that one.

Wow, according to MSAR, only ten make it off the waitlist out of 175.
How did you get 175? Last year and the year before, the difference between the number accepted and the number interviewed was always beyond 200, meaning that the waitlist should have more than 175, yes?

update: I misremembered the dates for financial aid info - March 31st was earliest last year and the SFAE website says April 1st.

I also got bored and set up my MyUMB and, thus, SURFS, accounts with my student ID number (I mostly did this to confirm a name change linked to my FAFSA).

MSAR says the waitlist is composed of 175-200 applicants after interview. The number accepted from the waitlist were 10

Anyone know when UMD is done interviewing? (hopefully the question isn't when *was* UMD done interviewing)

UMD SOM's website states that they finish all interviews by the end of March.

So don't expect anything any time soon lol. I was hoping early April

Last year someone interviewed on March 11th, and got accepted by the end of March.

Waitlisted, interviewed mid Feb...Anyone know chances of getting in after being waitlisted this late?
