2015-2016 University of Miami (Miller) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you guys get an email about a decision being made or just saw it on the portal?

Btw, it seems like "final decision" means accepted, since if you're not accepted right away, the decision isn't final...

I just checked the portal, no email. Some people on 10/15 had this status and got put on the waitlist. It just means your application has been reviewed post-interview I think.

Yea, I think they will make a decision (accept, reject, WL) within 6 weeks for everyone. I think the interview web app said they will be making acceptance calls/WL emails on Nov 4th

Final decision can be accepted, wait list, or rejection. Doesn't give any indication towards any of the three.

Really hoping for an II. 3.81 GPA, 510 MCAT. A medical school education from Miller would be incredible.

There was speculation earlier in this thread that the reviewed application update stating the additional sentence, "at this time, no final decision has been reached" might be a pre-interview hold or some other glimpse into their decision-making process. For those who either did or did not receive this additional sentence, is there any correlation with an II? From what I've gathered, it seems like it may just be different staff updating the status and using different statements (though it does make for some great fodder to pass the time).

Post Interview update on my Page. It went from " your application and interview report will be reviewed by the admission committee...." to
"your application and interview report will be reviewed A FINAL TIME by the admission committee.."

OMG :nailbiting: is that a pre waitlist ?

No, it's the standard post-interview message, until they make a decision.

i just got one too...hopefully this darn picture will not just be a commemoration of failing to get in LOLBUTSERIOUSLY

I literally thought the same thing earlier...like would they send a picture to people they're going to reject??

i think they'd send the picture to everyone because people talk and then those that didn't get a photo will wonder why they didn't receive a photo

I am a student member of the admissions committee here at UM. Here are a few things you all need to know:

1) Final decisions are not made until the admissions committee has met. So we cannot send out half hints or silent rejections. To put it simply, you cannot know anything before actually receiving a final decision from the admissions committee.
2) We do look at SDN. Therefore it is in your best interest to maintain the utmost professionalism when on this site.
3) There are over 8000 applicants and it takes a very long time to evaluate all the applications. When your application is reviewed does not reflect competitiveness.
4) Please do not send me messages asking or seeking help. I cannot provide any and all such messages will be disposed of immediately.

I understand that the medical school admissions process is an incredibly stressful time. Stay calm, and please be patient. Thank you for your time.

Thank you for the information. That's very helpful. I was just wondering if you are willing and able if you could give some insight as to the review process? I know that when you are reviewed doesn't play into competitiveness, but I'm curious as to why some students are reviewed before others even though they submitted their app at a later time. Just trying to wrap my head around it so I can know what to expect. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

I cannot provide such insight. As to why the order can seemingly be out of order, it is simply a result of how the computer gives them to us.

I have received 2 telemarketer calls in the past 10 mins..... how is this possible?!?

I understand. Thanks for everything else you provided though!

Thank you for taking the time to shed some light on the process! Between this and Miami's actual point-system to evaluate candidates this school actually seems to have a method to the madness!

Ps. Pick me 🙂
