2015-2016 University of Missouri - Columbia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
IS. We have a 63% (based on last year's stats) of getting an II. Such a big number is making the silence even worse.

Yea, I was worried but honestly lets think about this. The Early Decision Applicants are interviewing on the 24th. There is really no reason for us to expect an II until at least after that date because Mizzou does not get that many apps so they start the interview cycle later. Plus EDP applicants are always first priority at every school. Mizzou literally only get 1900 apps an entire application cycle so they can afford to start their cycle later than many other MD schools.

Mizzou Med is a gem that not many people know about.

Have any OOS applicants received an II yet?

Also, does anyone know how competitive it is to get a secondary as an OOS? My OOS applicant form was accepted and I got a secondary a while back but I guess I'm not sure if that is a sign that they're interested in me as an applicant or if most people make that cut.

It seems like several OOS people have been turned away on sdn, so I'd take it as a decent sign. It's still going to be an uphill battle since Mizzou is primarily In-State. Best of luck to you!

Mizzou undergrad here. I was chatting with our pre-med advisor and she says she doesn't know anyone who is non-early admission with an interview yet. Apparently Mizzou implemented a new way to evaluate applications this year and she thinks it's slowing them down. Just wanted to pass the word along, waiting for interviews is stressful enough!

II just now!! IS 36 3.86...dates available starting next Tuesday

Does Mizzou accept updates? If so, what form of communication.
Thanks

Are you two OOS or IS?
IS. I called them to update a transcript for a course I took over summer. They just had me email the admissions office, but if anyone was to do any updates I'd definitely call or email them about it first just to make sure.

first acceptance I've heard of has been given out. yes, 1 day after the interview.

Lol. Was it an Early Decision Applicant who got in?

I thought they werent doing regular applicant interviews yet

I believe that they're doing their top-tier-applicant interviews right now. (tiger330 has a 36/3.86 and was the first one on this forum with an II; no surprise MU would be gung-ho about offering people like this an acceptance...) Applicants like me with subpar numbers will probably have to wait another month or so just for an II.

True.

Here's to hoping @DrRedstone got similar news.
Unfortunately I have to go for another interview that has yet to be scheduled. Certainly not giving up hope yet, just looking sadly at my wallet xD

Just so you guys know, they schedule interviews based on when they received your application. It isn't based on stats. I can confirm that they have a new screening procedure that is taking them much longer. They only had about two weeks of interviews scheduled when I was there.

i'm not saying you're wrong but it's interesting the only person to post about a non-early decision II has VERY good stats

Apparently. I guess my stats were much more subpar than originally thought.

Yea, Oh well, cant expect too much with a sub 30 MCAT though. MD schools place a pretty big emphasis on your MCAT scores.

Anyways, when were you complete?

Completed 8/3 with 30+ MCAT and 3.5+ GPA. IS as well. I'm gonna hold out hope still, but DrRedStone's inside scoop doesn't seem to look good for us.

I was complete around that time as well. No, no it doesnt look good at all. It would be the year that WE apply that they would have this new screening format too.

with a 3.8 / 31+ average I'm not sure what the point of making an even more strict [numbers based] screening process is. I think there's more to it than that. Just relax and let them work their Tiger voodoo magic.

Yeah I think switching to a screening process with a focus on numbers would speed things up significantly. The fact that the new screening process is slower, I would guess it is more holistic than before.

True, but RedStone's information doesnt bode well for people complete earlier than others who have IIs.

Congrats atbio79! May I ask are you IS or OOS? Do you attend Mizzou?

There's a lot that goes into these decisions. Too much to actually speculate. If you haven't been rejected yet, the only thing you know is you haven't been rejected.

Yea, thats why I''ve kinda just written off a lot of schools at this point. Obviously it would be great to go to these schools like MU, but in the end there is only so much you can do.

Maybe they're going out to Mizzou undergrads first? Since they know we'll be here on such short notice?...

The inviting people as they turned in was speculation based on my understanding of the process. Don't take my word as the gold standard.

I just walked my secondary payment to the admissions office today. I was told that my application will probably get to screening by the end of this week/early next week. The confirmation email I got said that interviews will start in October.

So that mostly sits with what @tiger330 experienced. I have comparable stats to tiger, so if I get an II fairly quickly it might lend some weight to them offering IIs based more on stats than when you get in.

Which, would be good news for both you, me and @Yojimbo_OGT

Strong application, IS, complete on 8/3 MCAT 33 GPA 4.0 no II yet. Don't worry too much guys!

I see. Well in that case, then I can come up with no method they use. It must just be holistic review like it is everywhere else.

Has anyone with a new MCAT score received an II?

I have. I think most schools are just looking at percentiles to help compare. How they view the psych portion, I don't know...

My secondary portal stopped working, does that mean I've been rejected or did they do that for other people too?

The page isn't even loading for me (prior to entering username). Pretty sure you're fine.
