That being said, try and send secondaries back in under 2 weeks after receiving an invite to fill them out. Keyword is try.
Thanks! Do you know anything about the LOR question??

Oh yes sorry. You just won't be complete until the last letter comes in. Unless you already have 3 letters, then they might look at your app without waiting for your last letter, I'm not sure. Thanks! Do you know anything about the LOR question??
Finally submitted my secondary!! Took me so long to make sure there were no grammatical errors or anything like that in my essays.. still not quite sure but decided to say eff it and not look at them until i do or don't get an II...
By the way.. you can submit without all of your LORs being submitted correct? I am still waiting on one letter to be submitted but the LOR section of UWs app is checked as complete.. will they get this letter when it is finally submitted?
Also.. can someone reassure me that it is still early in the app cycle? I have spent so much time working on this secondary that I have neglected my other ones and now im feeling a little worried..
@royfan Thanks yeah I'll do that... The LOR was just submitted a few minutes ago, which is only a few hours after I submitted my secondary. I'll give it a few days and then call in if it does not show up under the Document Status section i guess.
I got an email today confirming my WA residency! My entire life living in WA meant nothing to me until this moment! 😉
I was talking later down the line, if I'm not getting any secondaries from UCs and things in California are generally looking grim while things in Washington are moving forward. Mostly caffeine+boredom = over-thinking.don't you have better chances in California as a CA resident? why compromise that for one school
Have they updated your residency verification slot on the portal website? I also got an email confirming WA residency yesterday, and they cc'ed the SOM admissions office, but no change on my portal page as of right now.
They still haven't updated my the checklist on the portal website. I've called the admissions office, but haven't gotten an answer. I assume that it will be updated soon, but I'm just a little neurotic!
Unfortunately residency in Washington state requires you to work a certain number of hours a week for an entire year I think. People I met who came from OOS for undergrad at UW were all OOS until the very end of their Bachelor's degree. So I don't think you could get WA residency before med school. Though maybe med school handles things differently. So I applied as a CA resident, but I received a secondary because I have strong ties to WA, fit their mission, whateva whateva. If I don't end up getting any love from the UCs, do you think it's worth it to try and get my WA residency back? Probably doesn't matter at this point, right? I don't even know if it's possible, anyway. Worth a thought...
Yeah I was afraid of that. Wish I had kept my Washington residency because California schools are so competitive, but hindsight is 20/20 🙂 thanks for the reply!Unfortunately residency in Washington state requires you to work a certain number of hours a week for an entire year I think. Well if it makes you feel better, in California you have 5 or 6 competitive schools (I don't know how many there actually are), and in WWAMI we have 1 competitive school for 5 states so I'm not sure about the actual odds but either way it's a crapshoot.Yeah I was afraid of that. I'd give them a few days. It took them like 3 days to update it on the portal for me i think.
Maybe my app doesn't have it for some reason?
Are you a Washington resident?
Have any MSTP applicants gotten a secondary? Would love some of the Seattle love! 🙂

Got a secondary this morning!Yes, I received a secondary a couple of days ago. I submitted my preliminary application ~ 1 week ago.
I don't remember seeing that, though I also didn't check the status so I'm not sure what came before my secondary invite.Lol for any MSTP applicants: does anyone's status say "A status update will be mailed to the address provided on your MSTP application"?? I have a feeling since it says that it means I can expect a rejection mail for my application 😛 Otherwise, they would have just emailed me the secondary right?

Thanks @pineapplecake! Yeah that seems like the logical conclusion, but it's not over until it's actually over. And I know you'll get lots of interest from other places!Congratulations on the secondary!!! I have a feeling the status update means a rejection since it doesn't really make sense for the school to send secondaries through mail LOL but that's okay! UW seems like an amazing place and I'm glad I at least gave it a shot~ best of luck to everyone still in the running!
2-6 weeks....you can contact after 4 weeks waitingHow long does it usually take for UW to confirm your residency?

not sure if anyone here has any insight to my question but it's worth a shot. i already contacted admissions about it and they didn't have an answer for me.
according to UW's "affidavit of residency," one can be considered a resident if they meet three requirements:
All three apply to me. I grew up in washington state, but moved away in my adult years and am now a resident of another state. Parents still live in washington. Does this grant me any sort of in-state considerations with admissions? when i called the office, they told me the residency department for the entire school handles that sort of thing, however that office couldn't really answer my question either. i dont want to waste my money applying if im not a WWAMI resident.
- Received a diploma from a Washington high school or the equivalent of a diploma in Washington State.
- Lived in Washington for at least 3 calendar years (not school years) prior to receiving their diploma or its equivalent.
- Continuously resided in Washington since receiving the high school diploma or its equivalent.
What did you list as your home state on AMCAS? I'd say you clearly have strong ties to the state, but if you're legally a resident of another state as of this coming Saturday, then you're out of state for this application cycle which means your chances would be quite low even with ties to WA.
Yeah definitely to that. And consider getting residency in WA again (driver's license) for this next year, if you are able to. Unless the state you are in now has more medical schools, then your odds would be better there.i'm not applying this cycle. just trying to plan ahead. there is a form that needs to be filled out for this situation, just not sure if it needs to be handled before i submit my amcas. i'll try the residency office one more time tomorrow and see if i can get any more clarification on this.
yeah, i probably wont establish an actual residency in washington. I much rather go to my state's school instead, just figured it would be worth applying if I could get in-state consideration.Yeah definitely to that. On AMCAS you'll have to declare the state in which you are a resident (you only get one), and that's the one all schools will consider.yeah, i probably wont establish an actual residency in washington. You will be able to mention that you have strong ties to the state in the pre-secondary mission statement for OOS students, and then again in the secondary if you receive it.I get that, but a lot of schools have preference for OOS applicants who can demonstrate "strong ties" to the state. I'm not particularly concerned at this point about which tuition I'll have to pay, more that my application won't get passed over as an OOS applicant when I actually meet residency requirements for the school despite not living in the state. But thank you for the help.
I'm in the exact same situation this cycle. I'm technically OOR with low stats, but I talked about my ties to Washington and desire to return in my pre-secondary, and they granted me a secondary. There's hope if you're technically OOR! Wouldn't hurt to really think about which state's schools you're a better fit at/may have better chances at and then plan your state residency accordingly. That sounds right, but if you gave the residency office a call and explained your situation they should be able to help you out. I vaguely remember a story from a friend of a friend who was able to finagle their residency back (unhelpful info, I know) haha. Probably depends on who answers the phone that day.Dont quote me on this but I think you need to prove 3 years of residency in washington to get considered for IS. If I realllllllly wanted to, I could make it work, but I still have a better shot at my state school

This isn't accurate...I don't think. I'm OOS, and for undergrad (in WA and most other states...<i've transferred a lot>) you only had to declare residency for one year before the start of the cycle of school (so for the entering class of 2016, they would have to tried declaring before aug. 2015) and proof that it's not school based (working not going to school, getting a lease at a place, driver's license, registration, insurance, bank account, etc). I did this back then, and had to verify it this time again for medical school, not sure why since I haven't left but...yeah.
Anyway, being IS in other states is really more convenient if they have more medical schools since as of now WA has 1 MD, 1 DO, 1 MD-to be. Overall, it's only 35$ to apply for UWSOM...so even as OOS if you can proof ties to WA, I would say go for it and keep your residency at whatever state you are in now, unless you REALLY want to come back to WA and (maybe) practice here.
