@BABSstudent do you know how many students UW accepts relative to their matriculation number?

They Actually have the stats for the last 4 years or so on their website. Go to UWSOM admission -> admission stats (should be one of the first links on the left hand side) Tells you by region and state....applicants, interviewed, acceptance, and matriculation. Seems for IS it's 35% or so of interviewed that are accepted.

also, to answer your other question, my friend said it took him xx time. Basically it could be any time up until 4 weeks or so before the actual date. So if your date isn't until nov. 25th...you may not get the date email until oct. 18th ish. They say the email will arrive 4-6 weeks before the time.

Hi everyone,
I'm out of state and submitted my mission statement exactly mid july and haven't heard anything back yet. BUT I realized that I haven't designated letters to UW on amcas; the page where I submitted the mission statement doesn't have any sort of checklist, it only has a notification saying that "For out-of-region applicants: we do not consider letters of recommendation when conducting the preliminary review of your application. This means that your letters do not need to be received before submitting your mission statement essay." Does this mean I should have submitted letters after sending in my mission statement response, or should I wait until I receive and submit the secondary to do that.
Thanks to those who can help.

I don't think they'll look at them at all until they send you secondaries. But, you may as well assign them now if they are on AMCAS. They take a while to get assign them once UW receives them (it's done manually), and it can't hurt. Best case scenario, they get it before they decide to give you secondaries, for some reason read 'em and it helps them send you a secondary. Worse case scenario, it has no impact on their decision but at least they are in and once you get secondaries, all you have to worry about is filling the questions out (which you can prewrite). Unless they explicitly said to NOT send letters before secondaries (which I doubt. I assigned all letters to all schools since primaries...and no issues), you shouldn't worry.

If you are super worried, then you can always call/email 🙂

Welp, first rejection just now. IS, non-trad career changer, top 5% of UW undergrad (all I've taken there is science/all curved to 2.8 median), 30 MCAT, completed 8/14. Good EC's, and letter of rec from a member of UW med leadership team - and employee of the hospital for coming up on 6 years in a "exempt professional" position.

Didn't see that coming. Good luck to the rest of ya this cycle!

is there such a thing as sending a "please reconsider" email?

Secondary received today. Mission statement submitted 7/18. Stoked to receive the secondary, but bummed that I have to do more writing-thought that I was finished and that was a silent reject. So, once an OOS applicant receive the secondaries, "what" are the odds for II?

Congrats! No doubt getting to this stage as an OOSer is a huge accomplishment in and of itself!! As someone who has done an exceptional amount of research on UW, I cannot say I have ever come across any stats stating your chances of getting an II after getting the secondary as an OOSer. (Maybe someone else knows?) But from what I can gather about the AdCom, I would guess that your chances are very good! I doubt UW has a predetermined number of OOSers they want to interview, so if you write great essays, I'd bet you stand an excellent shot!! Congrats, again, and good luck!!!!

I got two friends IS that got interview invites too 🙂 YYAAAAAYYYY 😀

At UW in region = in state

Not exactly. Different admission stats (though relatively close for some of the states), but they do pay IS tuition from my understanding.

Yes they pay in state tuition but they're much more likely to get into the UW campus in their state than to get into the Seattle campus.

That's true. I think not counting TRUST spots, it's about 25 spots per state (5 more for TRUST)...so it would depend how many applicants they get for that state...I would assume it's greater than 100 (Idaho gets around 100) making their chances ≤25% ...but I am not sure how many spots are reserved for seattle campus..I wish they had that information out just for the sake of knowing.

If people are interested I can dig around, but I have somewhere a list of applicants per state vs acceptances per state for WWAMI.

And msar screwed up the stats as far as IS and OOS. They posted them somewhere, but in region does count as in state for stats. I think it's in one of the focus group presentations. (For UW's stats not msar)msar says at the bottom about the region thing being IS, but it then has them counted as OOS.

Ugh. I need to unfollow this thread (it's painful to see!) but my urge to help others and share the info I do have is too strong. I need to be more selfish

I believe Idaho was up to 35 seats last year, and hoping to hit 40 this year if approved by the state legislature. That's including the 5 TRUST seats, though.

What surprises me is that they already sent out an Idaho WWAMI II—I thought they didn't interview until January/February?

That's right... They don't interview until then, but I guess I have an interview spot when that time does come around.

II today. Complete 8/24 with a 3.45 undergrad GPA and 33 MCAT

Still silence. Tomorrow will be 7 weeks from completion. How many weeks beyond their 4-6 week estimate of hearing back from them after a complete secondary until it's appropriate to email them and ask WTF? 🙂

Yeah same here. Every II for August completions makes me want to give them a call and ask what's going on 🙁

It took me about 7-8 weeks to get my II. I was completed around 7/14 and got mine last friday

Mine was relatively fast...but it's still so early in the cycle!! You'll get there! @Tim I wouldn't call until a week AFTER the longest estimate. Unless you have a good excuse (questions about letters or residency) and indirectly mention the timelines of when to expect a response.

Submitted my secondary today and marked complete today, IS. Hoping for the best... Non trad ~28, 3.9, killer ECs.

Anyone know if they show preference to legacies at UW? Most secondaries have some sort of box to check or line to fill in with parent/family UW affiliation but didn't see anything on this one.

Legacies mean NOTHING at UW. Children of attendings get no preference either.

My friend from Montana tells me that there is a pre-med conference being held at MSU Bozeman on 9/19/15. In the past I've heard it is quite beneficial. Pre-med advisors in MT should have the details.

I interviewed at Idaho-WWAMI last year. I did not enroll. I'll just say that if you are from Idaho, and are waiting...just continue to wait. They interview well over half their applicants, so it is probably coming.

Also, your chances of getting into UW are actually worse if you are from WA, than any other state.

Had a dream that I have overlooked the schedule interview email and when I checked, all the date spots were filled and they made no exceptions: first come first serve.

This is ridiculous.... they are getting inside my head now 😱:nailbiting:🤔

Thats also what I heard and gathered from the UW per state stats from an admissions talk

Youve received the email for your interview date?

Nope sorry I thought I had opened the updates to UMich...so when I realized a fellow WAer got an ii I was wondering what date they got....ignore that (I do wish we could delete our own posts 😵)

Ahh I'm a little confused. What is this mission statement everyone is talking about? I haven't heard anything and no secondary from UW...

How many Idaho applicants?

So next week then? (Start of week 8)

So my friend just got her schedule email and now I'm worried I may have accidentally erased mine (she got an invite a week after me) anyone else get anything?

So next week then? (Start of week 8)

I guess so? Like I said I personally wouldn't lol.

Actually, i just received the email to schedule my interview. Does anyone know if scheduling your interview early is beneficial or makes no difference?

I still have not received the schedule email. got my ii Aug. 31st (completed aug. 21). I'm worried it'll come while I am away or for dates while I am away :\ I would love early november to mid november.

@SSSMDt did you find out whether there is a benefit?
