2015-2016 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They finally received my AMCAS!
How long did it take for others to receive the secondary?
My status says it could take 1-2 weeks, but people on this thread are reporting that it only took days. I don't think the "screen" is as intense as people think it is since no one has reported being rejected pre-secondary yet. Kinda seems like most people get the secondary.

EDIT: Just found this...https://www.aamc.org/students/aspiring/423492/reviewapplications.html
"At Wake Forest School of Medicine, Ms. Tise explains, “Because of the large number of applications we receive, we use a formula that separates and groups applicants based on their AMCAS® primary application. The groups are: 1) Proceed and send a secondary application, (2) Hold for MCAT score or other extenuating circumstances and notify candidates, and (3) Risk, based on academics.

"Those candidates in the “risk” category are reviewed individually by the associate dean and an executive committee of five faculty and admissions committee members. From there, a decision is made to either proceed with the application process or reject the application.” Typically, after secondary applications are submitted, the associate dean and a committee review the applications and place candidates into interview pools. Because of the large number of applicants, only a small percentage is asked to interview."

So it seems like if you fine stats and broad experiences, you'll receive a secondary.

I seem to remember this from the last time I applied. I never received an interview but I was placed in a "substitute" category in case someone else decided to cancel theirs. Hoping for better luck this year.

My AMCAS was verified on the 23rd of July, if that is what you mean?
Then they must have just gotten your application? Did you get the email that says they received your application?

Ah accidentally missed the 3 week deadline for the secondary and got sent a warning email. I submitted minutes afterwards so hopefully Wake Forest will forgive me!!

Ohh.... I misread the email it seems they just got my application
Ah! Ok.
That confused me cause it seemed like it took everyone a few days to receive it in the last round. I'm sure we will get it!

I read somewhere that 85% of applicants get secondaries....

Well you clearly didn't read the second post of this thread...

Q: Does Wake screen applications pre-secondary? How many students make it to each stage of the application process?

A: I don’t have the exact numbers in front of me, so please don’t quote me on these numbers – I’m going to estimate. Wake receives over 8,000 applications each year, and roughly 2000-2500 students receive secondary applications. From these group of applicants that complete secondaries, we interview around 500-600 applicants. From the 500-600 who interview here, roughly 250 will go on to be accepted.

I am now thinking 85% is MUCH more accurate than 25%. What you are quoting is only someone's best guestimate.

Read what I found above:

Thanks for the info. The post I found was from a med student so I thought that, while he said he was guessing, a deviation of 60% would just be too unlikely.

Another poster earlier in this thread said that Wake Forest School of Medicine's Facebook page said that they sent secondaries to 85% of applicants last year.

Hello folks, my application has been marked as "awaiting MCAT scores" for 3 weeks now. Does anyone know if this will be updated prior to receiving notice of a secondary or rejection?

Yeah we had this issue a couple weeks ago and based on what pathdocmd said, it seemed like 85% was much more accurate. I wish it was 25% though, would make me feel better about myself lol

How long does it usually take for wake forest to send out a complete email after you submitted your secondary? I submitted and paid on 8/13 and still have not received any confirmation of payment or submission.

I submitted 7/17, my status in the portal changed to "Complete" on 7/24, and I received the "Application Complete" e-mail 7/27. They process applications and update statuses in batches, so hang in there!

I got the complete email but what's the link you use to check the portal?

Just a random tidbit for everyone fortunate enough to get an interview here:

After lots of tinkering with flights and airports and ways to get there, the closest airport (GSO) is ~$50 shuttle fare to the school, the next closest (RDU) is ~$150, and I assume CLT is even more. There is an Amtrak train leaving from Union Station in D.C. that costs $62 and takes you pretty close to the school, which while a good bit longer than flying from D.C., eliminates the need for a costly shuttle adding on to a costly flight as well (especially important for people not from the east coast).

Anyway, just my two cents 🙂

Adding on to this, I submitted my payment by check (I was waiting for my paycheck to drop so wanted to delay it a little but still submit it ASAP). Will that delay my app further??

I submitted my payment online, but I suspect it won't take much longer to complete your app. I submitted my secondary on 8/4 and received the complete email on 8/11. So it takes a takes time regardless!

Just got my secondary as well. Verified 7/27 OOS

Your application is complete and will be reviewed continuously throughout the interview season. Interviews are by invitation from September to March. If you are invited, you will receive a e-mail or phone call to schedule an interview.

Does this essentially mean I'm on hold?

Just got my secondary as well. Verified end of July

Secondary received! AMCAS verified towards the end of July.

Found this from a thread a couple years ago...
7400 primary apps
2450 secondaries
540 interviews
225 acceptances
120 matriculated

Above, others and I have concluded that these numbers are not accurate (unfortunately 🙁). It's estimated that closer to 85% of applicants receive the secondary. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

From a post by Wake Forest School of Medicine on Facebook on January 9th: "Total number of applications received - 8,602, a 6% increase. Eighty five percent were sent a secondary application. Interviewed - 375 with about 200+ to go. Offers are out to about 80% of the class. National stats are at 49,836 applications for about 19,000 places with 10,078 total offers out at this time."

Per a previous post by a Wake Forest employee, 2450 refers to the number of completed secondaries received, NOT the number awarded.

I don't think so. I think it means: we'll review it when we get to it and we'll let you know when we make a decision. And (maybe) repeat. And it might take a long time =)

Oh, bummer! I was hoping it was one of those heavily screening schools. 🙁

I'll still probably go ahead and complete mine as it's one of my dream schools.

@MDWannabe483 I did not take the new 2015 test.

I know! I was so excited when I thought it was a big screen too.

I hope you're right because I've had this status for a couple of weeks now 🙂

I'm pretty sure that's just the default complete status.

Anyone else having trouble with the secondary app link loading???

Anyone know if they do silent rejections?
Try logging in the link they sent you in the acknowledgement email that they received your primary. I logged in and it says I have been awarded secondary and they will send secondary email shortly within the week.

Yep. Literally did that right before you posted. So glad I didn't get screened out.

Just got the secondary. AMCAS verified 7/23. Primary received email 8/14. Secondary received 8/18.

I know it sucks, but just keep waiting if you still haven't gotten anything yet. Good luck everyone who hasn't submitted yet. 🙂
