2015-2016 Wright State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Secondary (er, survey) received this morning, and promptly submitted. I really like the sounds of this school.

I have lived in Dayton for 16 years and the WSU campus is awesome! Plus much of the shadowing I did was through WSU physicians and they are all incredible! I can't wait until this start sending II!

I just started my second week. I'm loving it, and my classmates are awesome. On the first day of class, one of the deans pulled out the Elder Wand, and another one dressed up like the Easter Bunny. You can't make this stuff up. I'll try to check in on this thread every now and again—good luck everyone!
You didn't say anything about The Wonka Bars.....

I'm really looking forward to hear from this school. Fingers crossed.

Just added this school to my AMCAS! Hoping to get the secondary soon. 🙂

Another MS1 here, feel free to contact me about anything. I'll be active this weekend after our first exam. Good luck to everyone. Those who receive an II will surely not be disappointed.

Does anyone know if we can submit more than 3 letters (3 faculty, at least 2 science)? I have two additional letters from an employer and MD.

You need to send 2 from Science Professors and one from any other source. You may send an additional 2 letters of recommendation. 5 is the maximum for individual letters. With a committee letter you may send an additional 2 letters of recommendation.

29 MCAT (retake; raised exam from 25 MCAT)
3.79CGPA
3.75BCPM
3.86 AO GPA

Didn't you post this on a few other threads? Might want to round your GPA a little bit for anonymity (ADCOMs frequent these forums). 🙂

I'm still waiting for a request for a secondary (survey). What would be reasons not to have received an invite yet? I did a retake on my MCAT and it will post next week, could this be a factor?

If I remember correctly, they sent them out in batches last year.

Does anyone know if they accept application updates?

Is there way to check app status? And also has anyone received II here?

Unless there are changes since last year, there is no way to check app status. Also, I received my II around this time last year, and I'm pretty sure I was one of the earlier ones. I know you feel like this:

However, things will starting rolling eventually. The adcoms are probably too busy admiring the awesomeness of our current class to worry about the next one yet...

After you have completed your Secondary Application to WSU BSOM you are complete and in review status. Your status will not change unless you are invited for an interview. Interview invitations are extended from September through February. No final decisions will be made until the end of the process in late March.

So we have a few more days to wait.

Received the 'complete' e-mail today. Good luck to everyone applying- wishing you all the best this cycle! 🙂

II this afternoon! Excited to finally have an interview less than 10 hours away 🙂

IS; Non-trad; MCAT: 30; cGPA: 3.59

I actually deleted my complete email by mistake, so I don't know when I was complete. I believe I only received one complete email, but again I'm not 100% positive.

To any potential interviewees- feel free to ask or pm me about anything med school and Boonshoft. If you would like to personally meet on your interview day for any questions etc let me know

Ohhhhhh getting all helpful now aren't we? Shouldn't you be studying the skull or something?

Hello Debbie,
My AMCAS application was verified on August 25. I haven't recieved any letters of II or rejection from WSU BSOM. Would you happen to know when I am supposed to recieve the letter? Or has everyone that applied recieved it? I am not sure if it went to my spam folder or what? Thanks so much for your time.

You do realize they have like 4,000 applications to go through right? It's probably going to take a bit longer than 2 weeks. Like I keep saying, hang in there. Applying to medical school is a long and drawn out process.

Are you asking if you should have received an interview invitation, or that you have not gotten a secondary application? We interview around 450 applicants. It would be impossible to invite them all at once. Without a name I can't check anything. If you would call the office or email me then I can help you. 937-775-3762 of [email protected]

Hi guys, MS1 at Wright State. Feel free to shoot me a PM or quote me on this thread and I'll try and answer anything that I can 🙂 In case you're curious about what the vibe is like here, it is awesome. The class (at least mine, anyway) all gets along, there are a ton of things to do in Dayton, and there are always people around here who'll have your back. Good luck in your cycle!

Just wanted to put in a plug for this school. I'm a recent grad (as of last May) and a few months into my intern year. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I loved BSOM during my four years there but looking back on it now I appreciate my time there more than ever.

The best thing about Wright State is the people. The admissions office does an amazing job every year at choosing a group of students that are smart, motivated, laid back, and always a cohesive bunch. There is an amazing sense of community and camaraderie within the students and faculty. You'll form a bond with your classmates that will last far beyond medical school and I'm so grateful to have my BSOM family now that I'm out in residency.

Another thing that's hard to gauge until you're in the real world is how well BSOM will prepare you for residency. I was a below average applicant who with BSOM's help graduated as an above average medical student. The faculty are deeply invested in their students' success. You will be well prepared for your boards exams, and more importantly you will be extremely well prepared clinically. Again, I'm no superstar, so I was pretty nervous that when I started residency I would be the biggest idiot around. However during the first few weeks it was clear to me that I had had more practical and hands on clinical experience than most of my peers. Starting residency is hard no matter what, but that solid clinical foundation I got at BSOM made things so much less stressful than they may have been.

Basically what I'm trying to say, is that BSOM is the best. I never though that medical school could be the best four years of my life but this place proved me wrong.

hoping for some OOS love, sounds like an amazing place

I'm also a recent grad of Boonshoft (as of last May) and doit4themunki is a perfect example of the kind of really awesome, genuine people that made medical school amazing (we still chat even though residency is super busy!)

It's a truly warm, welcoming community and I hope it continues to get the attention it deserves from future applicants. You'll be so well prepared for residency, in literally whatever you want to go into. I'm usually more of just someone who reads these forums from time to time instead of posting, but her message brought back a lot of good memories.

Good luck to all of y'all in the process this year!

Edit: Jk I figured it out :biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove::biglove:

I absolutely love Dayton and WSU. Just completed the survey today after the AMCAS transferred to schools yesterday and receiving an email in less than 24 hour. Hopefully not too late in the cycle getting everything in.
