Submitting this week! 499 MCAT, 3.8 GPA, 1000+ hours of clinical experience in a medically underserved area, 250+ hours volunteer, 2.5 years research. Chances?

I do not know about MD program but I saw on DO blogs that your stats look very good to get into a DO program. Best of luck. I am under 500 MCAT too.
 
So there's a section added under my status tab that says "Interview: Not scheduled yet." Does everyone have this or does this mean I may be getting an II soon?

EDIT: Nevermind, this is probably on everyone's apps based on past threads. Dang it 🙁
 
What are your opinions on going to the open houses they have on the first Friday of each month?

I would highly recommend that you go, as it was very informative (I went early this month). The students are very nice and give you their honest opinion on the school. One thing that was stressed by the admin that was present was, they cannot advise you to see if you would make a good applicant as this would be a conflict of interest. However, after the information session, you should get a pretty good idea if you will be a good applicant.

If anything, just use the opportunity for them to put a face to your name!

Thanks for your reply ! Do you know if we can bring relatives or friends? It's kind of a long drive for me so I thought about going with someone.
 
Hey everybody. I am a Howard grad and wanted to stop in. I've read a lot of posts that have asked about scores. While scores are important, understand they are not the end all, be all. Howard has always been about selecting those that fit what we believe in and what we stand for. I want to be clear, I am in no way representing the admissions board or anything. I am simply speaking to yall as a Bison who was in your shoes some time ago. When I was in this process, I didnt have the best scores. But Howard saw something in me past my scores, they believed in me. I owe Howard and I love my HU with all of my heart. So stay strong and patient in this process. It's long and tough, but stay persistent if Howard is something you want. Good luck to you all. If I can help, let me know.

No problem! Some students brought a friend or relative, but I would keep it to a minimum.

To start off, I'm Canadian and my undergrad gpa was 3.76 and mcat of 502. I then completed a Master's degree in Health Science doing research in an end-stage heart failure hospital ward. I'll probably spit out a couple pubs. With these stats, there is a 0% chance of getting an interview in Canada so I'm wondering if I should apply to some schools in the US.

Was thinking about applying to Howard but I assume that if I really want a good shot, I should wait and apply early next cycle? If I wait, do you think that I would have a chance?

It is a little late in the cycle for other schools. but you are okay for Howard and have good stats and hit their average for MCAT.
But I will say that is you haven't submitted an AMCAS application and it hasn't been verified yet then it is definitely too late for any US school including Howard. But if your AMCAS is ready to go then you should make the decision for your self but remember that if not accepted to Howard you will be a re-applicant for the US MD cycle next year so take that into consideration

Been fortunate to have multiple DO and MD interviews/acceptances (and so have a few of my friends here as well) so as far as those go, I believe you can too but I think you should retake that mcat unless the goal is DO in which case you may still be fine, but I'd retake in your shoes. That said, if you have already submitted and had your primary verified, you can add a few schools whose mcat requirement you have like Howard but it may be worth your while to apply mainly to DO schools at this point since their cycle runs longer. Otherwise, just retake the mcat try to score 508+, the higher the better and reapply early and broadly next cycle.

Im applying to howard this cycle and was wondering what my chances are, my gpa is 3.3 and MCAT 515. I was also wondering if I should retake the MCAT?

I called Monday was complete after you all they can tell you is its under review unless you have another specific question outside of the status of your app you weren't learn much from calling.

I'm with you! Been complete since 9/1 + only had silence. I was worried it was a silent rejection or I'd been pushed aside but I'll continue to wait too. :nailbiting:
 
Hey, does anybody know if Howard accepts updates to your application via email?? (Things like new employment, new coursework, new volunteer experiences)

Do we count the completion date as when all the checks are green on the portal or when you get the email that a preliminary review has taken place?
