2016-2017 Medical College of Wisconsin Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just received an II for Central Wisconsin campus... for November 16th. Called to see if they have any other dates. Was told November 16th, 17th, or December 15th, 16th. Not sure I can make it on a week's notice, but if I have to, I will.

Definitely grateful for the interview offer but isn't the short notice a little ridiculous? They've had applications piling up since July. You think they could get through things a little quicker and give us applicants a little more notice. I got my II for Central Wisconsin today and the interview is the 17th. I don't know if they even consider OOS applicants for the regional campuses but I don't know how you would make travel plans in that situation in one week. I guess every school does things their own way. One of my other interviews is at the end of February and was scheduled a month ago.

Whats more competitive MCW or Boston University, If I am in state for MCW?

Yeah, I ended up requesting to change to December 16th. Fortunately they were accommodating. I'm OOS, also, so getting a reasonable plane ticket for next week would be really tough.

Could anyone who has interviewed at Central Wisconsin campus provide a description of their interview day? I am particularly interested in how the panel interview plays out. Also, what types of questions do they emphasize?

It was an amazing day! The panel interview is nothing to be afraid of. They had 6 people interviewing me. 3 of them were on the admissions committee, and the other 3 were members of the community to see how well you fit in with living in Wausau. The rest of the day was just 1 on 1 or small group meetings with faculty talking about different things, the curriculum, life in Wausau, ways they support different learning styles being they are a satellite campus, etc.. They have you watch a financial aid video.

Thanks! What types of question do they emphasize? (i.e. why you want to be a doctor, interest in primary care, review of your application experiences?) Are they looking only for applicants with a commitment to primary care, or do they accept applicants who are undecided or interested in a specialty but committed to underserved areas?

Good luck to everyone finding out tomorrow!!! Absolutely loved this school...I have all my fingers and toes crossed for a positive email from them 😛

so nervous omg

Complete beginning of July and still silence. Would contacting the office of admissions to ask about my file do anything? Confused...

This is true for me at several schools including this one, yet I have been accepted to others, so I have no idea what it means. I don't know that contacting them will help because I'm sure they know we exist and know what they are doing.

I know it's not easy but the best thing to do is keep trying to find other things to worry about and not this, haha. You've already done everything you can. It's just appearing to be such a random process.

Seems like I shouldn't be so impatient. According to last year's thread multiple complete in July-August were receiving IIs into Jan & Feb and I didn't look any more. I guess I have to continue waiting!

waitlisted 🙁
I wonder what I did wrong and need to improve on?

Anyone know what the typical waitlist movement is like? Feeling pretty down now with no acceptances and 2 waitlists......

also congrats to those accepted! y'all deserve it! 🙂

When did you submit? And was it via email?

Also accepted as of today. LizzyM of 70 with strong ties to Wisconsin. Very excited!

This is sort of a dumb question, but beyond sending thank yous for interviews, is there an etiquette to saying what's basically the equivalent to "thank you for accepting me and I'm very strongly considering your school" or should I pretty much just wait for the info packet in the mail and pay my down payment before April?

I'm a bit exhausted and burnt out from the interview trail. Could someone please tell me what the interview format is like here? If I remember correctly there is a panel interview here? Will be at the Milwaukee campus.
Two one one ones- student for one, faculty for other. No panel (thank god)

Thank you very much. Were both of them conversational? Do you know if they are known for stress interviews? Sorry. I'm quite nervous about MCW.
The faculty one was the most conversational I've been to by far and was such a pleasant surprise. Honestly the student asked more typical "interview" questions but still was overall conversational. Don't be stressed at all, the faculty one was one of the most enjoyable interviews I've had

Interviews were very conversational. At the interview information sessions before the actual interview they say that they want to know that you're a normal person that will fit in to their student body

Hi! I actually had two faculty interviewers (no student in my case). My first faculty interviewer really stuck to her list of questions, but my second faculty interview was much more conversational!

Other than the $100 deposit due by April 30th, is there any fee for holding an acceptance spot? I've heard that some schools charge big bucks to hold the spot 😱

No that's really it! I've only heard the big bucks at DO schools, none of the MD schools I've applied at have more than an 100 deposit (could be more at places I didn't apply??) Alexis stressed on our interview day that our spot is our spot until April 30th, they don't give it to someone else if you don't pay by then!

Thank goodness!! Alexis was such a nice woman 🙂

Does receiving an II at CW (or GB) bar you from getting one at Milwaukee, or vice versa? Has anyone received one for MKE and a regional?

I had the same question when I got my II for the Central Wisconsin campus. When I called the admissions office, they said that additional interviews depend on how your first one goes. The person I spoke to indicated that the three campuses communicate with each other about applicants. She made it sound like if you get rejected from your first interview, you won't get another one but if you get an acceptance, you can interview at the other ones if you think you would like to go there or if the committee thinks you would be a better fit at a different campus. She sort of implied that you'll likely get accepted to all three (if you interview at all 3) or at none if the first one goes bad.

Secondary invite: july 26
Secondary submitted: Aug 3
II for Milwaukee campus: November 15

Felt this school was a long shot, especially as an OOS applicant but hoping this gives at least one out of state-er some more confidence. Hang in there.

CA-resident
502 MCAT
3.3 cGPA
Underrep. applicant
Got MS degree this year

I got rejected from one and accepted to another so I would disagree with this as a rule unless you heard it directly from admissions.

The person I spoke to was just whoever answered the phone at the admissions office. Obviously its not a 100% guarantee if they make you do a second interview rather than just give you another acceptance. I'm going to guess you were accepted at a regional campus and rejected in Milwaukee or vice versa rather than an acceptance at one regional campus and a rejection at the other. The thing I've heard from multiple admissions staff is that acceptances/interviews at multiple campuses all depend on where they feel you would be the best fit.

Did you interview at a second place? Or was your first interview your only one?
