2016-2017 Pennsylvania State University Application Thread

I saw a lot of people are talking about their interview experience and a lot of people recently got II. I was accepted about 2 weeks ago, and my interview experience in this university was probably the best I have had out of all the universities I have interviewed in. My experience was also very similar to what everyone is saying theirs was like. My first interview, my interviewer took notes on me but was EXTREMELY nice. Basically asking about what I liked to do, what kind of research I did (since he was a PhD doctor doing research). He only asked me questions for about 15 minutes. The other 15 minutes he said "it is your turn to interview me". And the last 15 minutes was him literally giving me a tour of his entire lab. My second interview was how everyone else here is also saying it was. It was 100% conversational. He did not take notes, and for the first minutes he was just telling me about himself and his hobbies and what he liked about his job. There were no questions in that interview but we did talk about medicine and what we BOTH loved about it and what got him into medicine, etc. Extremely conversational and nice. We were laughing and cracking up through the entire interview. Good luck everyone!

I think your second interview was the same person as my first interview! He was so nice and conversational. completely took the edge off for my very first medical school interview. I just hope we see some tabs this week. it's pushing 8 weeks for me. the waiting is killing me!

Hahah I might know who you are if we talked about how we had flipped interviews after the day!

Anyone interviewing here dec5 that would be down to split a rental car or something? Also, what did the people that already interviewed here did? which is the easiest airport to fly to? How did you get from there to campus? (MDT may not be an option for me, as there is no direct flight there and the tickets are really expensive from where I am coming from)

I ended up buying for MDT (have yet to interview but not on Dec 5) because Philly is a very far drive but that is the next closest airport. i am not 25, so it would have to be an Uber for me or a Taxi. Only MDT and then an Uber was the viable option for me.

II here this morning! The latest flight out I can take is at 6 pm, but the only available interview time was the afternoon slot. Would I be able to make a 6 o'clock flight if my interview gets out at 4, or should I plan on spending an extra night?

You can rent a car under 25

I just rented enterprise with 15$ surcharge

Well time to check out prices haha. Bc I would MUCH rather have a rental than an Uber. Sucks because I already booked my flight, but I would rather drive to my interview than have to depend on a taxi the morning of.

So just did some research. You cant rent a car under 25 pretty cheap ($80 for 2 days). Tough luck for me though because I happen to be 10 days away from the minimum age requirement to rent a car at most of the locations. Yes, I am young.

Did anyone who submitted their secondary early October hear anything back?

The hotel I stayed at had a shuttle that went straight to the University for free. It seemed pretty reliable and I was there 30 minutes early.

For you guys on hold, are you planning on submitting grade updates after the semester? Does penn state encourage/accept updates?

What hotel have you guys stayed at while interviewing? I'm sure this has been asked and answered - but I can't seem to find it!

I stayed at the Fairfield inn near Hershey park. I think someone said they have a discount if you say you're interviewing at penn state or something like that (although I didn't use it!). It was comfortable. Breakfast was meh but I'm also extremely picky with my foods.
Hope this helps!
