Thanks!!yea it looks like this..... right on the first page, you'll know when it is there
Stats and complete date?II today as well, so excited !
The amount of research is pretty variable. Upstate is right next to Syracuse University and SUNY ESF, so the opportunities and academic environment is definitely there. That said, you need to be aggressive with it, and realize that bench research will be tough to do from here on out simply because the sustained effort and time are hard to come by. I came to upstate with a strong bench and teaching background but did no research until fourth year. I still talked a lot about research in my essays, etc.Is there a significant research focus at SUNY Upstate (for regular MD)? Are a lot of non-MD/PhD medical students involved with research? Are they encouraged to pursue research during the summer? I know Upstate isn't a traditional research powerhouse but I'm trying to decide if I should focus on my undergraduate research experiences during my interview. I don't want to harp on research too much if research isn't a huge emphasis for Upstate medical school.
Anyone interview here yet? I am wondering what the timing and agenda is like exactly. They don't really have a layout of the day they just mention what you will do.
Thank you! They explain the MMI format to you and you do that first thing in the morning for almost 2 hours. Then you have about a half hour to relax or sit in on a lecture or whatever your heart desires. Then is a quick lunch and talk about admissions and financial aid, and finally a student-led tour. It's a pretty quick interview day compared to others that I've been to, we were done around 1pm.
Note that some interviews have the MMI at the end of the day, after the student lead tour. They explain the MMI format to you and you do that first thing in the morning for almost 2 hours. You simply receive an email from Upstate that says you're on hold. Can anyone post a screenshot of how the hold notification looks like?
I interviewed today and it was AWESOME!!! Do not stress about the MMI they are so nice about it and it wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed the whole process 🙂. The admissions lady said that she reads student doctor and gets a kick out of seeing people freak out if she doesn't release acceptances the same exact day each year LOL.

Nice! What were your stats? And do you have an exact complete date lol?II!!! Complete mid August!!! So excited. Any tips from peers who interviewed already?
Oh ****...I was complete the same day but no news, LizzyM 72. You had a quick turn around!August 23rd! LizzyM 69!

Thanks dude! I will await it with bated breath lolThank you! Hang tight. I've always believed hard work will pay off so I am sure your II will be coming soon! A LizzyM of 72 is not awarded spontaneously! I'm sure your dedication will shine through.
If I could comment on this question -- they want you to be interested in whatever medicine you find interesting. The RMed program exists, and if you are interested in spending some of your clerkship in a rural area with a community hospital, they have a pathway for you to do that. Additionally, the Syracuse and Binghamton clinical campus selection for MS3 allows you to tailor the type of clinical experience you will be exposed to. In my cohort, several people are participating in the RMed program, and 1/4 of the class will spend their third year in Binghamton. But as much as rural populations need access to good medical care, urban environments also see a large disparity in access to healthcare. I haven't felt that anyone has wanted the students to be interested in rural medicine vs. primary care vs. a specialty.Did they seem to want you to be interested in rural medicine?
The admissions women was SO laid back honestly. She even said she doesn't care which you prefer and the admissions people who review your file will not see which campus you prefer to go to. She said just do some research and pick the one that seems like you will like the best. (You can put that you only prefer one over the other, that way if you are put on the waitlist and either campus opens up you will be contacted) They said it is honestly up to you and they don't prefer one or the other. I was really interested in the syracuse campus but after hearing a bit more about the Binghamton experience from some students I would be happy with either. They said that at the bing you have a really close relationships with the physicians and may be doing first assist whereas the syracuse you would be watching a procedure behind 10 other students. I was honestly so surprised how laid back everyone seemed there. Even the MMI was more laid back than any of the others I've been too and most of the interviewers were super new so they said they didn't really know what they were doing LOL. If you go to bing for 3rd year you can always go back to syracuse for your fourth year.If I could comment on this question -- they want you to be interested in whatever medicine you find interesting. I would like to know this as well...Anyone know what the chances are of receiving an interview after being put on hold? I'm guessing it's bad...
ive posted this like a month ago, but for the people who were recently invited to interview, what were the earliest dates available?
is the portal the same site you use to view the application status and all? i received a hold email but the site doesn't mention that my app is on hold... does anyone else who is on hold notice this too?
