2016-2017 University of Iowa (Carver) Application Thread

If you haven't gotten interviews from 40 programs, it seems unlikely (though not impossible) that you'll get one by adding 1 program. It might be wise to save your money this year and reapply next. That said, I'll echo @GoCubsGo20; if money is not a problem, and you don't foresee it being a problem next cycle should reapplication prove necessary, there's nothing wrong with applying to CCOM last-minute.
+1 was thinking this same thing.

Has Iowa sent out any rejections lately?

I was complete around September at most schools so I'm aware that some schools might not have reviewed my app yet,, I'm on interview hold at several schools either but I'm trying to maximize my chances anyhow and I have lots of great research experience which I think will help my app here

I'd say go ahead and submit it if money isn't an issue. I also applied late, which is a disadvantage but I'm hoping for good news for both us this cycle. I'm rooting for you!

What are your stats? If they are too low, no amount of research will help. That's just my opinion, however.

MCAT breakdown? A 505 is 68th percentile. I got an interview 2 years ago with a 28 (67th percentile). I'm not trying to give you false hope but nothing is impossible. Also, my GPA was like a 3.79.
Did you send your secondary in the end of October?

do you mind sharing which schools you got interviews at? i can also PM you if that's better

2.9/506 and got II from Carver...
Also, you're likely the exception, not the rule. Good for you though, really that's awesome. I was never trying to throw shade or anything, but I do think submitting this late with that mcat would likely result in a charitable donation rather than an II. But if OP gets an II that's awesome! I sincerely hope he proves me wrong!

Just checked my email and yea...I guess I completed at this school earlier than I thought. I was complete late August. October is pretty late for this school :/

Nah I think youre right. I was interviewing with a ton of MIT, Harvard, ect. grads. Im just gonna make a poor assumption and say that they had pretty good mcat scores lol.

Well hey that's a testament to your character! Iowa clearly thought a lot of you to invite you to an II. That's awesome and I'm genuinely happy for you!

Unfortunately I think you're right my friend.

Does anyone know when Iowa usually stops giving out II's?

Accepted today OOS!! So excited! Slightly worried its a fluke because at my interview date they said the earliest we'd hear back from them was December, but I accepted the offer right away so hopefully they cant take it back lol

I stand corrected. Congratulations!

Iowa will tell you their decision either way after you interview, right? I'm starting to get concerned because I haven't heard anything and I interviewed on one of the first interview days...

If I remember correctly, they will give out decisions intermittently till like early-mid February, and then they have a "final pool" of decisions in March. After that they rank the waitlist and everything else.

They could wait to tell you that you're in the final pool in January then find out in march.. doesn't matter how early you interview.

For the people who have already interviewed, were a lot of questions asked about ethics/healthcare policy or more about your personal characteristics and experiences?

Look at SDN interview feedback for Iowa. They have all of the questions you could be asked for the structured portion. The unstructured portion is more so then wanting to get to know you and what you're about.

OOS alumni here, submitted back in July and haven't heard anything. Anyone know when they stop giving IIs?
