2016-2017 University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Not to be THAT guy, but looks like the admitted students' group went up within the past day:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/Perelman2017/

Decisions were released 2 days after the creation of the group was reported in last year's thread. There's probably no predictive value to this, except perhaps that the creation of the group seems necessarily prior to the announcement of decisions. We probably could've just relaxed until now 😛

What's funny is that one of the admins joined that group a month ago.

Is releasing on a Friday unheard of for this school?

What concerns me is that no med students have joined the FB group. I assume they'll at least let the ambassadors join before releasing decisions.

What time of day are decisions usually released?
My meeting ran short. Since I made the original stress-inducing pronouncement that it would be "an hour or two," I feel I should provide the data.

All times Eastern:

2015 (added retroactively for future Penn applicant/archaeologists)
Down for maintenance 9:51 AM
Decisions 12:19 PM

2014
Down for maintenance 9:53 AM
Decisions 12:23 PM

2013
Down for maintenance 10:21 AM
Decisions 10:39 AM

2012
Down for maintenance 3:08 PM March 12 and again 8:51 AM March 14
Decisions 9:56 AM March 14

2011
Down for maintenance 7:47 AM
Decisions 1:53 PM

Seems possible that the portal may not need to go down for maintenance in this post-overhaul era? Chance that we might just get decisions out of the blue.

I was actually surprised that given how fancy their portal is, they don't have the technology to simply update admissions statuses without putting down the portal for maintenance

but is it the same portal as last year?

welp looks like today's pretty much out. Silverlining is it has to be within the next 4 business days

when was it overhauled?

Not sure. Someone could probably figure it out if they were motivated enough.

On the portal, where it lets you select application year, the only two options are 2016 and 2017. So it might have been just last year.

But it was still doing the maintenance thing last year hmmmmmm

Last year it just had 2015 and 2016. I imagine they just don't keep info for applicants more than a year out.

I'm not aware of any sort of overhaul in the admissions office. Gaye has been running the show since like 1996. Doesn't mean there haven't been changes, but I imagine we'd hear if anything big had happened.

Tempted to call them and see what's up.
I wouldn't. As anxious and antsy as I feel, they'll release decisions when they're ready on their timeline. Let's all take a breather, and just stay patient. I think a call would be warranted if this was post March 15th, but let's just be professional and wait
