2016-2017 University of Pennsylvania (Perelman) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone have a sense of how many ppl they interviewed this year? A current student told me they might have cut it down to like 600 instead of the 900 or whatever it used to be, but they weren't sure...

Interviews finish this Friday 1/27, according to staff when I interviewed earlier this month.
Yeh, losing all hope at this point. Hopefully other schools went better for y'all =(

Hey guys,

I received the SOD a while ago, but randomly checked my status and it changed to "Your application continues to be reviewed but there is no change in your status. Reviews will continue." Anyone have any idea what it means/ had the same change?
Thanks

Anyone else in this boat: "Your application is now in the screening process. Complete applications will go through a series of competitive screenings. Interviews will begin in September and continue into January, 2017. Applicants invited for interviews will be notified via email. The Committee on Admissions will make all final decisions in March, 2017." I didn't check religously but I don't think my status has changed at all. I was complete late July and I thought I had a decent shot here. Has anyone else not heard anything at all or had any updates at all?

Can anyone confirm this?

Sorry about double post...I'm new at this

I hadn't seen this in the thread or last year's thread, so I just wanted to post it for the record.

At the end of the interview day they gave out dope hats. Like really nice Perelman hats. I REALLY hope I get in, in part so I can proudly wear the hat around.

What's the point in waiting for an email saying "sorry, but not sorry. k thnx bye"
idk, just kinda seems a little immature. imagine asking someone out on a date and they say "hm, let me think about it." you then find out that they're planning to say no from a mutual friend you two have, so you call the person you asked out on a date and say "nvm, i don't actually want to go on a date with you."

I remember counting the number of interview days on the post-interview questionnaire (there was a dropdown list where you selected your interview date) and multiplying that number by the number of interviewees on my interview day. That gave me a number around ~800 interviewees. I think a number around 600 is possible only if some interview dates had fewer interviewees (i.e. much fewer than 20).

That being said, I would be more than happy to believe in the 600 number for all our sakes 😛

Ahh smart way to estimate. I just checked the survey again too--27 interview days, and I felt like there were significantly more than 20 interviewees on my day at least.

A lot of the interviewees on my day were MSTP and there were about ~15 for MD, but I have no idea how many are interviewed for MD/phd

Sorry if this has already been said, but what day are we expecting decisions to be released on?

I don't think it was that bad...

Thank you for your interest in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. You were among many candidates applying for acceptance to our class entering in the Fall 2017.
Although we are unable to offer you a position in the class, we hope you will succeed in your career goals to become a physician.
-- The Committee on Admissions

That's the portal message. I didn't find a problem with that one. The email just rubbed me the wrong way:

"Dear Applicant,

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania has completed the 2017 interview program. There will be no further interview invitation at this time.

The admissions process continues to be very competitive and we are unable to interview many fine students. Because you were not invited to interview, your status page has been updated.

We wish you well, appreciate your interest in Perelman and offer best wishes for your future career in medicine.

Sincerely,

The Office for Admissions"

"There will be no further interview invitation at this time." Is this sentence grammatically correct?

Didn't get an email, only portal. But I agree.

Yeah, I saw the portal first and I was basically like "yep expected" but once I got the email I got a little annoyed at their tone. But no worries 🙂 good luck to those waiting to hear back!

Rejected as well. I found the email kinda rude and it totally rubbed me the wrong way - glad to know I wasn't alone!

PEACE! Good luck all.

I totally agree with this! I had the same reaction. Well, probably shouldn't have applied to the Ivies coming from Ohio haha
