Any more news from early interviewees? SUC/Reject emails? Anyone? Bueller?

Am I correct is saying that after every committee you will either be SUC/Rejected/Accepted, that there isn't anyone that just gets silence (you get a new SUC email every meeting, right?)

I interviewed on the 6th and I haven't heard anything.

Yes, this is correct, even if your excom member literally doesn't show up to discuss you, you still get an SUC. I'm so confused how there has only been one acceptance and no SUC on here (I wouldn't expect many post-II rejections this early for UW)

Maybe one excom member went rogue and jumped the gun on the acceptance call

Thats what I thought, and being a week out from that post, and having talked to several people that interviewed with me the first day (10/6), its strange that no one else has heard anything. I know all we can do is wait - and this is a long cycle (I'm normally the person I threads trying to help calm people's neurosis and remind them how long the process can be) but this one has me on edge! Guess thats mostly a product of how much UW means to me, but the suspense is real!

And I hope interviews went well for everyone, I know a couple people here had them today!

Agree. Hate the neurotic content on this website sometimes but I'm certainly feeling it with this school. The people, culture, facilities at UW just seems like everything I want and a perfect fit, just feels right for me. I don't even want to go to any more of my interviews. I'm actually secretly hoping I get accepted by Friday so I don't have to go to this interview I have hahahaha.. somehow I don't think that's going to happen though lol.

Literally had a stress dream about my interview that hasn't even happened yet last night so I'm hopping on the "love UW so much more than any other school (but trying not to appear desperate but please love me UW)" train

Sounds like the interviews from 10/26 missed the last EXCOM meeting then.. =(

Interviewed 10/19 SUC today. Guess it's not a rejection? so yay?

If a lot of people are receiving SUC updates, when does that mean the admissions committee met? Today?

My med school adviser told me that most things for medical school happen on Tuesdays, that's when all the updates go out for the week prior.

^ from looking at the others years threads, looks like SUC's, acceptances, and rejections go out all over the place (day of the week wise), so not sure how accurate that is.

So just to clarify, I know that the executive committee member is the only person to know your MCAT scores and GPA during your interview, but do the other interviewers become familiar with these stats after you exit the room, like before the executive committee member presents you to the committee?

No, I'm pretty sure they dont

They all write their own reports as you are interviewing/directly after (they have laptops), then they put together a combined report, and all 4 are entered. Then I believe the other two interviewers don't have any interaction with you or your file from that point forward. Your excom presents your case from then forward

some received several SUC along the way from previous thread, how did that work?

not sure exactly what you are asking, but maybe this; every committee meeting anyone on the SUC gets brought up. They can either be SUC'ed again, accepted, or rejected. So you receive one of the three decisions every meeting. So if you are SUC'ed the first meeting, you could be re-SUC'ed at every meeting from that point until the final decision/wait list day

Oct 24 is the first date of EXCOM. I know this because all of the oct 24 interviews happened in the evening. I tried to reschedule my interview to the morning but adcom told us that it was reserved for the first EXCOM meeting. Judging from the thread, the decision will reach us within a week after EXCOM meet.

Thanks for that info!

Interviewed 10/18. In state. Received an email today saying I was still under consideration. :/ better than rejection!

Thanks for all your kind words guys. I really love the school and believe it is a great fit for me. The situation is just a little rough and I'm a little surprised that they only conduct 25 minute long interviews. I firmly believe that if they simply extended the interview time to an hour that they wouldn't need to invite applicants back for a second interview. I feel like I barely had time to talk about my application! Again though thank you so much for your thoughts

Sounds like a tough situation. I'm glad you were able to get it resolved without incurring an additional expense during the interview season! The ADCOM members would undoubtedly love an hour with each applicant, but unfortunately this would not be possible logistically.

Remember folks, the point of the interview is not to talk about your application. The interviewers should know your application. They have all read it, in its entirety, possibly more than once. The interview is designed with specific goals in mind, see "The Interview" section on http://www.uwmedicine.org/education/md-program/admissions/applicants/interview.

Thank you! I wonder why they do the panel interviews instead of a one-on-one interview for a longer period of time. I think it would make for a more conversational interview style that would allow for the applicant to relax. This is more along the lines of what I was hoping for because after getting comfortable, you can really let your character shine. It's not that I felt the need to reiterate parts of my application, but rather that I wished I could expand upon them in order to show the interviewers more of my character and motivations for pursuing medicine. Most of the interviews I have had have been two separate one-on-one interviews that have each lasted for an hour. I really like this format, but I am also sure that Washington has its own reasons for why they conduct panel interviews. Good luck to all of those waiting to hear back!

True! It can be more difficult to get comfortable in a panel situation and shorter interview. From my perspective the panel approach is an efficient way to get different perspectives on your communication skills, motivation, and application as a whole. Three interviewers can have very different opinions on what's important in an applicant, the idea being that three perspectives creates a richer discussion surrounding the merits of each applicant and their potential contributions to the class and school.

I had such a fantastic time at the UW and will be very disappointed if I don't make it in.

Question for other interviewees -- I had a 45 minute interview, I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing? It was very very conversational and other than an awkward role play, very enjoyable. I wish I could have stayed and chatted for twice that long though, the trio of interviewers I had were very genuine and kind.

Last year mine was about 45 minutes as well, this year was more near 30 minutes.
And yeah I had a very similar experience interviewing at UW as well, very conversational and genuinely seemed interested in me IMO.

OK cool, I'm glad to hear someone had a similar experience!

I just hope I find out soon, one way or the other!

Does anyone know if the admissions committee is more lenient towards third-time applicants?

Does anyone know when then next excomm meeting is? Interviewed yesterday, wondering when we should expect to hear back

@mandoggy When I interviewed my tour guide was a first year and said last year EXCOM meetings were around every 2 weeks. From the thread it seems as though one meeting was early last week so probably sometime next week will be the next one. It still will be hard to tell if you're interview day will make it to discussion at a specific meeting though

No. Everyone is looked at the same. Why would they be?

"Do 2nd time re-applicants typically have a higher acceptance rate than 1st time applicants?
No. It is almost exactly the same - 1 in 5 chance."

A good place to get questions answered is the schools webpage. As a matter of fact - the dean of admin made a point in a recent presentation of saying if you ask a question that is on there, that it doesn't look good.

I guess it's just hard for me to believe that since I've interviewed three different times so each time there are notes on your application and different perspectives. Also, I've been wait listed the 2nd time. But I know that they say that it doesn't make a difference. I was more so looking for an opinion based on past results but thanks for the reply

What was your waitlist number last time?

Low 50s so I likely wasn't going to make it off anyways. I was told to retake the MCAT which I did so hopefully better chance this year.

If anything I would think that it works against your bit. They already have notes twice that you weren't what they were looking for, or weren't quite there, so you'd have to demonstrate to them some reason to change a decision they've already made twice. At the same time though, you should have been able to get enough feedback to really put in your best application possible
