I still haven't even gotten the mail about getting my app from Amcas .

Yea, I'm in the same boat. No secondary email. I'm not sweating it though since I did my undergrad here.

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

Does everyone receive the link to check app status, like referenced in the original email? My app was sent by AMCAS a while ago and I still have silence...

lol nope...but as it has been said, things are moving in batches. It's chill. I had 5 secondaries come in this morning. I could use the breather.

Not yet. I don't think the order of Amcas verification has anything to do with it either. I was verified in the very first week .

Yeah as was I. I was verified 6/9, submitted early morning 6/7. Still have not received mine. So doubt that is it.

for the creativity question, how are you guys approaching it? obviously you should give an example, but other than that, is there anything else that should be written? i was thinking about including a reflection part, but i already wrote about the benefits in my example. thoughts?

Secondary received! OOS applicant, verified on 6/9. Best of luck everyone!

Prompts:
Required Essay Questions (Pick at least two):

1. The Committee on Admissions values diversity as an important factor in the educational mission of the Wake Forest School of Medicine. How will you contribute to the diversity of your medical school class and to the medical community in general? (400 words or less).
2. What obstacles or challenges have you experienced and how have you dealt with them (400 words or less)?
3. How has creativity helped you in your studies, work, activities, volunteering, or life in general? (400 words or less)
4. Starting with the 2016-17 application cycle, the Wake Forest School of Medicine has gone from course requirements to recommendations. How has your academic work beyond the "traditional" pre-medical school requirements (i.e., introductory biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, introductory physics) prepared you for medical school and for a career in medicine. (400 words or less)

OPTIONAL ESSAYS

1. If you have already received your bachelor's degree, please describe what you have been doing since graduation and your plans for the upcoming year (200 words or less).
2. If you have previously applied to Wake Forest School of Medicine MD program, please describe if you have made any significant changes or improvements from your previous application (200 words or less).
3. Describe any connection you have to Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, or North Carolina (200 words or less).

I'm probably just missing it somehow,..but where did you see that is says "Pick at least two" on the actual application? Thanks.

Submitted. But now I'm seeing "Hometown is missing" on my application. I don't ever remember being asked to input that information? Anyone else have a similar problem or can confirm that we were supposed to enter that info.
same here, dont think its that big of a deal

I gave 2-3 sentences about what music related stuff I have done, and then said music has improved my life in several ways.....*examples*

doesn't this school screen? what is the criteria for making it past the screen?

Someone from the school said earlier in this thread that the screen is very light and the majority of applicants get a secondary. I am assuming it's a basic 3.0/26 and maybe some number of clinical hours.

Last year's thread said they gave about ~2000 secondaries out for the ~8000 applicants. Idk if that's true or not, but someone did quote it earlier in this thread

A verified Wake Forest Faculty member said that these numbers were wildly inaccurate. There is a screen but it is not nearly this rigorous.

They just send them out in batches so you've just got to be patient.

I mean I already got one, so I'm good haha. I figured those numbers were inaccurate

3. Describe any connection you have to Wake Forest School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, or North Carolina (200 words or less).

Seeing as this is an optional essay, what is the consensus on not answering this? Should we write "Why Wake Forest" if there is no concrete connection to the school/state?
No because your screener or interviewer may think "That wasn't the question."

517/4.0 with an early II, still no secondary. Screen must be crazy tough to get through.
They are done in batches of 400-500. We have gotten >4500 applications and counting. Also, just because the application was verified by AMCAS on date X opposed to date Y doesn't mean we will get or process the application that was verified first.

Maybe in a few years this zombie statistic will finally die.

What about if we know a medical student from Wake Forest? I was planning on writing about an hour long conversation I had with a med student at Wake, and how I think I fit in at Wake based on it.
That's more of a connection that some answers: "I once went to Nags Head when I was 14" or "I love Asheville!" Those types of answers neither help or hurt.

If you get past the lenient screen, does that mean your application will get read for sure by a human? If you can say, of course 😉

Yes, a human will look at your application. This is why future SDN posts will say "I sent my secondary X months ago and I haven't heard anything..."

when it says "if you already completed undergrad and are currently working, it's advisable to get a LOR from your supervisor." how strict/lenient is this? if i am currently working, will my application still be reviewed by adcoms even if i do not submit a LOR from my supervisor?

Has anyone else not gotten the portal email?

I got the email about moving offices but it's been radio silence since then. I'm assuming it's just taking awhile to work through everyone, just wanted to be sure I'm not alone!

Edit: never mind, I'm a dunce and realized others were saying the same thing just above me. Disregard!

I also have a question about this. I just graduated undergrad in May and I'm only 2 weeks into my new job, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking my supervisor to produce a LOR ASAP with only knowing me a couple of weeks.

For the prompt:

Starting with the 2016-17 application cycle, the Wake Forest School of Medicine has gone from course requirements to recommendations. How has your academic work beyond the "traditional" pre-medical school requirements (i.e., introductory biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, introductory physics) prepared you for medical school and for a career in medicine. (400 words or less)

Are we only allowed to strictly talk about academic work (ie. courses) or does this question also include things outside the classroom like volunteering etc?

If you just want a lay opinion I think they are specifically only asking about academic work. If you're wanting the adcom point of view than disregard and wait for Pathdocmd.

+1
Anyone ever figure this out?

Stick to classwork. There are other areas in the secondary and primary application to highlight volunteering, etc.

I very briefly talked about volunteering, only as it tied to some of my coursework. I also talked about my research experiences as a supplement to my science coursework in terms of gaining certain competencies. How much will the fact that I didn't strictly stick to coursework hurt me in terms of how my secondary essays are viewed?

Thanks

None. If was related to a class, then that is fine.
