It's good to know that I'm not the only one! The Admissions process is such a crazy game/whirlwind of emotions. I am very thankful that I've had success with my applications and that I have options. However, I've spent well over $2,000 so I'm trying to do anything I can to prevent wasting money!



Same! My top choice said 4-6 weeks so I'm hoping it's on the earlier end. However, from the looks of SDN, many admissions committees are falling behind.

I was complete in late June and got an II in early November so it definitely took longer than 60 days (more like 16 weeks lol)

I got a II on like, the 62nd day I think lol. Be patient, but if another week passes call them 🙂
 
Interviewed recently and had a great experience with the students, staff and faculty. TBH, I am somewhat concerned about the exam frequency (2+ per week from what I've been told), and the fact that major curriculum changes would occur for the following year's students but not for this year. I think it's great how receptive the school is to making improvements but I can't help but be somewhat disappointed that we would not benefit from the changes. Trying to wrap my head around my feelings for this school, KCU and CUSOM.

does anyone know if they are moving to block schedule next year? i remember the dean mentioning changes to the curriculum but I can't remember when he said it would go into effect

We were told that it would not go into effect until the following class but I would be thrilled to hear otherwise from someone.

I'm a first year and while the exam frequency seems rough, many of the schools I looked at have more than DMU does. CCOM comes to mind...but more exams with less material on each is much more manageable if you stay on top of things than one massive exam. Plus more entries in the grade book always helps in case of a not-as-ideal exam. I was scared about it but once you get in the groove I actually prefer it. Just my preference...throwing it out there for people who are a bit scared about it.
 
Hi guys, can anyone give any input as to how long it took from primary/secondary submission to receive an II?
I haven’t seen too many people get II lately and I was complete pretty late and just want to know if anyone’s heard anything who was complete late October...

I finished secondary for this school in mid-september or so, then got the "we are reviewing your file" about a month later. No II yet for me! I hope to get one, though.

You have probably already chosen a date, but if you had to pick a January interview it does not mean you will automatically be on the wait list! I interviewed in January last year, mid/late January if I remember correctly, and I was accepted a week after.

As Chibucks15 said, you honestly get really used to having exams all the time and it can seem overwhelming in the beginning, but it comes to be okay! We recently had our first week without exams since we started school and without the constant exams I felt as if I had too much time on my hands!! It was a weird feeling, that I never thought I would have, but with too much time on your hands it can be easy to get behind because you have so much time to study it's easier to take more breaks - if that makes sense. At least for me, I got to the point where having an exam in 2 days seems like a good amount of study time.

I think part of medical school is about getting you into that mindset of organizing your studying so you can handle a rigorous schedule and know how to prioritize. Also, they made changes between last year and this year to make it a little more reasonable for first years, because they listened to feedback from the current second years. For example they expanded biochem by a few weeks and made the amount of material on each exam easier to handle. If you ever have troubles or stress with the load of work, there are so many resources here to help you out - I have a lot of friends who utilize the counseling center or CTL (center for teaching and learning) with only positive things to say about both.

I can't personally compare to KCU or CUSOM, but I am extremely happy with my choice in DMU!

It always runs a couple days over. Give them a little time around the holidays but give them a call/email a little after the 60 day mark. Its a small office. Its the hardest part of this whole process I know but patience is key

Honestly if I were you I would do everything I could to make December work. Whether January is interviews for waitlists or otherwise, there will be less spots if you interview later. Do everything to maximize your chances if you are interested in DMU.
 
Interviewed on 10/27 but still haven't heard back yet. Getting pretty antsy. Does anyone think I'll hear back this week despite it being the holiday times?
 
69 days post secondary, sent an update last Thursday, and still no II/hold/rejection. Strange stuff...
 
Anyone know how DMU pre-II hold operates? I've noticed for some schools, it's almost always a guaranteed pre-II rejection and for others it's just a genuine hold where some are interviewed and others are rejected.
 
Recently declined an acceptance here, good luck to all still in the running!

have you tried contacting them? I did this and it resulted in an II and an Acceptance shortly after. Try it 🙂 if you have questions DM me.
 
Torn between DMU and CCOM. With the deposit deadline fast-approaching, any insight on why to choose one school over the other would be greatly appreciated!
 
Struggling with the same issue... right now I'm leaning towards DMU but any insight is much appreciated.

Another reason is that with Illinois' economy it would not be somewhere that I would want to be. . . I withdrew two of my primaries from that state.
This is old news but I can't imagine that a ton has changed in 5-6 months.
Illinois could soon become America's first 'junk' state

I am in the same boat and am leaning heavily towards DMU. The atmosphere feels much more welcoming, Des Moines is an up and coming city, and I have talked to former DMU graduates that got residencies in my area of Wisconsin. I am big on vibe, and I felt more at home at DMU. CCOM spent much of the interview day leaving us alone in a room, which I felt was a bit of a turn off. If you aren't from Illinois and aren't trying to stay near home, I would choose DMU. Also tuition is cheaper so less loans!

I am from Altoona, IA, the east side of Des Moines. Des Moines is in the top 10 in best places to live in the US and one of the top places to live for young professionals. There are more than enough things to do in the area, downtown is beautiful and has great events going year-round, especially the Farmer's Market in the summer and into the fall. Plus, Omaha is less than 2 hours away, Kansas City is about 3 hours, Iowa City is less than 2 hours, all if you want to get out of DSM for the weekend or something. The cost of living is always a plus too. Education and training are pretty dang solid. Two uncles and an aunt, (DO, DO, PA, respectively) all DMU alums, so I may be a little partial! Good luck on your decision!
