Complete 8/28, LM 66, sent an update today (10/30), still haven't heard back. Hoping this one works out!

I was complete in mid-August and haven't heard back from most schools. I've started a major teaching experience that has had an influence on the type of medicine I want to do. Is it worth updating all of the schools (including Georgetown)?

My feeling is that Georgetown is the type of school that wants updates, so I would certainly update them. I think you'll have to look through the rest of your list to determine whether other schools are receptive. Good luck!

Is it too late to submit my secondary to Georgetown? :/

516 MCAT, 3.43 overallGPA, 3.2 scienceGPA (but went to an undergrad currently ranked #3 in the nation with the worst grade deflation ever). Current M.S. student.

I am working on secondaries and I am wondering if I should complete all of them due to very very late timing. Especially Georgetown since I think it would be pretty much impossible to get in at this point.

I am very late due to studying to retake the MCAT this summer (Aug 19th) along with taking a full load of classes and then starting fall classes right after. Also because I've been having a hell of a time getting in contact with my recommenders and getting them to actually write the letters they said they would.

I'm in a challenging post-bac M.S. program at a medical school, currently in the same gross anatomy as the medical students, but at least 2x the pace. Head and Neck exam is coming up and I'm so not ready. Also in biochemistry with the dental students and Biostatistics.

The school I am doing my M.S. at considers applications from the people in my program later since they want to see our fall grades. I am currently acing all of my classes and have a high MCAT, so I think as long as I keep my grades up, I have a very good chance here.

However, at any other school I've basically shot myself in the foot.

Here is the list, which are worth it?
St. Louis University SOM (already submitted secondary)
The 3 SC state schools (MUSC, USC in Columbia, USC Greenville)
Georgetown
GW
Loyola Stritch Chicago
Wake Forest
Uniformed Services - I am bummed to find out I'm medically DQed for a tiny tiny thing for USUHS, so can't do this secondary or HPSP either.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

It is pretty late - tomorrow is already November (I believe Georgetown's secondary is due early-mid November). I got my secondary from them at the very beginning of July, and submitted it within the first week of the month. I think that can be said for many schools - a lot of people finished their secondaries during the summer. That being said, if you'd regret not doing it, if you'd be losing sleep over it, if you think you would have a good chance at getting an II and if you believe that you have killer secondary essays, shoot your shot! Who is anyone on here to not tell you to go for it? (Maybe someone that works on an adcom could chime in with some productive insight) Anything can happen in this crap shoot that is applying to medical school. I know there are people that have applied late and gotten in, maybe because their application was stellar, maybe because they're lucky, but who knows. Just keep in mind the timeline and that schools have likely already reviewed thousands and thousands of applications, so it may take something substantial for yours to stand out this late in the game (volunteering, research, leadership, etc). I hope that helped in the making of your decision, and good luck!

To all my fellow waitlist friends, when are y'all planning to send an update to Georgetown through the portal?

Has anyone ever been rejected, wrote a letter post-rejection, and received an interview? Is that theoretically possible?

Dang haha Georgetown axed me on Halloween- how appropriate  Complete on 7/25 and sent a few updates here and there.

First rejection, complete late July and LM 67. Best of luck to those still waiting for their email!

I'm confused. Been complete most of my places since mid-July but still have yet to receive news from almost all of them-G'town included. I've seen many places I've applied to send both II's and rejections to applicants who have applied later than me.

Is this a good sign, bad sign, or somewhere in between?
517 MCAT/3.91 GPA.
Send an update letter to GU expressing your continued interest and what you've been up to. They like the interest letters a lot.

When did you interview? And when did you get waitlisted??

I think on the interview day they said to send updates ever 2 months or so.

rejection email and portal. completed early july, 512/3.86 best of luck to you all!

To those who interviewed here in mid-October, do you remember if the faculty said that we would hear about admissions decisions around Thanksgiving?

+ 1 - LizzyM ~73-74 (high MCAT, low GPA), Secondary sent in toward the end of July, but LORs sent in very beginning of August. Aside from a bad freshman year, the weakest part of my application was limited recent volunteering hours to underserved - I have quite a few in the past, but had to quit during the recession.

Is this something you read somewhere/were told by a GT rep? I'd love to send a letter of interest pre-interview but not totally sure on the etiquette around it?

I'm going to DC to speak to several Congressional Reps about the future of Healthcare with my non-profit, is that a legitimate enough reason to send an ITA email?

Yeah, the admissions staff mentioned it several times at the interview.

For those who interviewed- was it an individual (one-on-one) or group interview? open or closed file? I can't seem to find that information..

The interviews are one on one and closed file. The faculty/student who interviews you will have access to all your information except for your gpa and mcat score!

Rejected. Are there any consequences for asking admissions to reconsider my file for an interview?

It doesn't sound like a good idea to ask for reconsideration. You might have some luck asking about feedback. That sounds more appropriate but I have no idea if Gtown is receptive to those kinds of requests. Could I ask when your complete date was?

Complete 08/17. Just asking because everything in my application was strong, except for MCAT, which was at their median.

I can't imagine what kind of negative consequence there world possibly be, it just seems pretty futile. They receive ~16,000 apps and are very much a mission driven school. There are going to be lots and lots of strong applicants who are rejected for any number of reasons. They are also explicit on their website under Admission FAQ that they will only review files once and they cannot/will not provide feedback.

I think you should. The worst thing that could happen is that they don't reconsider you, so it's worth a try! Would be helpful if you have an update / a connection to the area or the school. Definitely let them know if this is your top choice 🙂

Hi, I realize this has been asked before but I just need a little more information about the interview format. (LizzyM 77, Canadian, Interviewing in Dec). The interview is one-on-one at the end of the day. But is it, 1) two 30 minute interviews with separate people or just one hour long interview? 2) I heard it can be open or closed file depending on the interviewer, is that true?

Congratulations on the interview! At the end of the day, you will have an hour long interview with either one faculty or one student. The format is very conversational--my interviewer had my file open, but did not know my grades and mcat score! I hope this helps!

I interviewed here on October 27! After the lunch with students, the group goes back to the waiting room and they will tell you if your interview starts at 130 or 215. Mine started at215 so I just waited there until I was escorted to my interview, and it's just one on one! They do not have access to your mcat or gpa, just the activities. Know everything in your activities because my interviewer basicallly went through them and talked to me about what I learned from each one. Also basic questions like why medicine, why georgetown. It's really laid back and myinterviewer was soooo friendly!!

Agreed, I’ve only heard chill things about the interviewers here!
