If you are currently not a matriculated student, please indicate what you have been doing since the time of graduation until now. (1500 characters)

If your undergraduate education was interrupted for any reason and you were not enrolled in classes, please indicate the reasons, the duration of the interruption, and how you spent your time. This does not include time between programs post-graduation. (1500 characters)

Please use this space to describe any challenge or obstacle you have faced prior to your application to medical school and how you addressed that challenge. (1500 characters)

Good luck to everyone applying!

Incoming MS1 here! PM me if you have questions about this school, about interview day, Northwell Health (I'm a local quite familiar with the hospitals), or anything in general! Good Luck!

How are you all approaching the challenge prompt? Is it a question of a general past challenge that you overcame and what you learned from it, or a challenge related to applying to medical school? :\ the 'prior' part makes it pretty open to interpretation so just wanted to test the water

I'm sure either approach will be fine.

Last cycle, I did the general past challenge that I overcame, but i think either will work. Good luck!

I am really interested in Hofstra, but I'm trying to limit myself to schools within an hour commute of an office my husband could transfer to within his company. They have an office in White Plains, NYC, and Princeton, NJ. Is there a place we could live between Hofstra and one of those locations that would be a manageable commute? Or something close to the Long Island RR?

To and from NYC, an LIRR train ride is anywhere from 35-40 min. You can ideally live in Mineola and take the train to the city whenever you wish (the school is also within 15 minutes driving distance). Queens is also another feasible option. Just a word of caution: a personal car is required for Hofstra to travel to different hospitals and doctor's offices. So if you are commuting, pick a place where the traveling isn't too much of a hassle. Classes do start early (~8AM) and are mandatory.

Perfect, thanks! Google maps was showing a really long commute with public transport, but the time didn't make any sense. It sounds feasible, so I will add it to my application

We have two vehicles, but would probably drop to one if my husband can use public transport. I drive 30 to 40 minutes for 8 am classes now, so that's not a hassle.

30-40 minutes in NY traffic though is awful haha. Good luck with your application, and PM if you have further questions!

When do they send actual secondary? I got an email but no secondary.

Secondaries are sent to applicants that meet the minimum MCAT criteria I believe.

And so it has begun...PM me if you have questions about the school or interview day!

I scheduled my interview and didn't see anything on there about student hosts... does anyone know if Hofstra does student hosting? @kbac13 and if not should we go for a hotel from their accommodations site?

I don't think Hofstra does hosting. There's a Marriot nearby if you want to stay the night.

Those of you with IIs. What day(s) of the week are interviews held? Thanks
