2017-2018 Stanford University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Eh, you're gonna go be a great doc from somewhere else. You've got double digit interviews if my memory serves me well. Life moves on!
Kind of you to say 🙂 We have the same number of interviews so hopefully we'll both fare alright. I'm kind of curious if they're selecting for a certain type of person too (well obviously they are in some way but you know what I mean). I definitely have a big research focus but I've also wondered if they prefer people who have an entrepreneurial interest as well, considering they have so many graduates doing industry-type things (from what I recall). I have no publications (just a couple of abstracts) and specifically no interest in industry (like, disliking it was part of my personal statement lol) so maybe that hurt me too.

@drmantistobbogan I did not apply for that program 🙂

Anyway, you are all amazing people and good luck to everyone no matter where you're at in the process. 😍

And I got rejected too! You think such a prestigious institution could get a proofreader to notice those missing words and weird line breaks in the email. :doctor:

Rejected. LizzyM 80, publication under review. Fitting that my first SDN post is a rejection lol.

When did you guys complete? I was early July and I have not heard back yet. What does being silent mean?

Got that R, fam. Complete early October. 3.99/516, tons of research. Was feeling Standord for the Knight-Hennessy program, but beyond that they didn't catch my eye much, so no love lost here. Prayers go out for those lost in today's massacre.

Also rejected pre-II. Complete mid August. LM ~75. Not too surprising because there's nothing uber unique about my app which the super top tier schools seem to look for. Was a high reach for me so not all that disappointed.

Rejected, complete 8/1. LM 78. No publications or posters (yet) but heavy focus on computer science / artificial intelligence in medicine, thought they would like that... guess not

Just what I needed to start this weekend 👎

I understand, and I feel the same way. Like you, I have a unique background as a premed, and was thinking that Stanford would be a good fit.

Best of luck with your other schools. I know you’ll be great 🙂

Interviewed at Mayo yesterday. Rejected by Stanford today. Completed early September. 3.99 and 521. Have a publication, lots of research experience and involved with many other extracurriculars that I enjoy

Yeah it really does, I'm just sitting here wondering what else I really need to do.

I've seen you around here, can I ask how your cycle is going? In a PM if you're rather have it private

Complete 7/19 and silence....don't know what to make of it😕

Rejections aren't necessarily sent out in order of completion, and Saturday has just begun. My friend who was complete later received her rejection earlier than me.

But it doesn't hurt to hope. I'm rooting for you! It's not over 'til it's over.

Don't worry I expect the rejection imminently

Comforting haha

Also I have to say you have my favorite profile picture and name on this site by far

I'm coming up on a year on this forum and this is the first compliment I've received about my avatar. I feel like most people here are just squares who don't get it. Thank you.

May I offer you an egg in this trying time?
Beat me to it lol

My mdapps is linked but you can PM me if you want

Didn't realize how much I wanted an II from here until I got the rejection email today...LM 80.5, 1 pub/1 poster, unique background in computer science. My chances to stay in CA aren't looking so hot 🙁

Seems like a bunch of us with CS background are getting rejected today (myself included)... interesting trend considering the proximity to the Silicon Valley 😵

Totally conjectural / based off of a fleeting memory but I remember Stanford accepting a disproportionate amount of people with CS backgrounds last year and thinking to myself "that's not a good sign"

Lmao I'm LM 76; 1 abstract/3 posters and was like whew didnt get rejected but mfw I realize my last name is towards the end and the rejections are trickling in

Also FWIW, I highly doubt Stanford is all that concerned about publications - to all those wondering what happened. Publications are not a measure of research aptitude or prowess for most undergraduates, and are instead a measure of connections and socioeconomic status (AKA you get to do research instead of work a second job). Dedication to research and quality refs from PI >>> publications IMHO

I got my publication from my job - I was not able to do unpaid research ever during undergrad as I was working full time. So no, it is not about socioeconomic status.

My post was in reference to undergraduate publications. Your argument is a case in support of my point. Congrats on your success with work though! Sorry if I offended.

Although I gotta say, if any undergrad has a first author pub that'd pretty damn impressive.
Definitely! Just not nearly as important in admissions decisions as people seem to believe. This is per conversations with admissions directors.

Wow, I counted almost 30 rejections today and I'll add myself to that list too....

I feel like I am in a state of both being rejected and having an II... Schrodinger's Applicant. Complete 8/19 with no research but significant other ECs and LM >75

I fear that having no rejection today just means that either my application hasn’t been seen (probable) or that I’m being silently rejected. I see no possibility of getting an II here.

Depends on your LizzyM I guess? Mine is low: 70. (High gpa, low mcat) So I don't expect an interview but havent been rejected yet either. My guess is my low mcat score meant I was stratified further down in the pool and so I havent been looked at yet.
