Hi! Im also in a similar situation where i've been accepted to upstate and want to learn more about UB for an upcoming II. I was wondering especially bc UB does basically have letter grading, does this lead to a more competitive environment did you feel during your visit?
From the students I spoke with during my interview as well as students that I know who attend UB, the competitiveness is what you make of it. Some students were more into just passing their classes and being able to to well on the USMLE. However, there were also some students that wanted to do well and achieve high grades which is possible given the graded assessment system. Relatively, I felt Upstate was a more relaxed environment in comparison given that it was pass/fail, which prevents any sort of competitiveness, regardless of other students.
Anybody know/privy to the amount of movement off of the post-II WL? I know a few of the MS1s I spoke with on interview day were accepted off of the 'list, and was wondering if anybody had heard some numbers? I know they interview about 600 for a class of 180 (so maybe ~250 acceptances?). Really hope to get in here!
I've heard there's usually a good amount of movement. USNWR isn't always accurate but it says they gave 307 acceptances for 576 interviews. Plus that might have been for a smaller class.
II today for April 4th...does anyone know if this means I'm just interviewing for a WL spot since it's so late?
Buffalo waitlist a huge percentage of their applicants and they choose their class at the end of the cycle. If you haven’t noticed yet, there are only few acceptances on this threads and a lot more waitlist
Also got a II here yesterday for April 4! Really excited to see the new campus, they hadn't started building it yet when I was last there!

You get two interviewers, and each has their own style. Just be prepared to talk about things in your app and some ethical stuff too. They said they change the questions every time.
I beleive they accept updates after you received an interview invite.

Interviews are always hard to judge. I think it went well based on my interviewers reaction to my app and to my answers. I really just stayed calm, tried to be humble, and elaborated my answers with specific examples whenever possible.
But how would my answer to that actually help you?
To try and figure out if I got waitlisted because of my stats, interview or skin color
It coiuld be any (or all) of the above but I'm pretty sure the adcom is in the best position to shed light on that... I heard from other medical students on interview day that the UB waitlist sees a lot of movement, the group of three that were talking to us were all pulled off of it. You are in a good spot. What is so scary about this guy is that he will be our colleagues in the future. I wonder how he will look at us when he has to refer patients to us or we have to refer patients to him. It’s obvious he holds a bias and that bias will be detrimental to his interactions with patients that may not look like him or colleagues that may not have his skin color...

At first, your question just seemed out of curiosity. But you took it too far when you brought up Affirmative Action. I don’t think you understand the concept that not everyone started on equal footing. Please do some soul searching on this topic because if you do become a doctor you will encounter some of the disparities URM deal with just in medicine alone.

Hey, I'm a 2nd year - there will be a facebook group soon, probably once the first year orientation committee gets chosen. There will be plenty of time to find roommates, just enjoy the rest of your year.
I personally did this, the form is not complicated, just keep the first copies of your utility bills in your buffalo apartment - need it as proof of living in nys for a year.
