Does anyone know if UVM is done awarding the "UVM Scholarship"? I Interviewed early December, was accepted late February, and have my fingers crossed for a scholarship (how else will I be able to get a good winter coat!?).

A little nervous my parent is from a place with a high cost of living, so my family income might look higher on paper than it actually translates to in real life (I'm not sure if/how this is considered).
For reference, I come from one of the most affluent counties in the country (as so ranked by Forbes magazine). Both of my parents are physicians (this is in my app) and I did not even submit FASFA and I received the scholarship. I was completely not expecting it and am still appalled.

I also interviewed at the same time but was accepted a month earlier than you.

Are you talking about US News and World Report? And primary care or research rankings?
Yeah that's the only ranking people pay attention to. And their research ranking (more specifically, this is the only ranking people seem to really care about). I believe it was 56 last year, and has hovered around the mid 50's for the past decade+.

Does anyone know the timeline of the financial aid process? Should we have received notification of an aid package?

If you want to go to a grocery store, yes.
At other schools, I have heard of people hitching rides (maybe even Uber) if it’s just for that need. I wouldn’t buy a car if I needed it twice a month.

Do you need a car the first 2 years here?

"Students must attest that they have and will maintain a valid driver's license and access to a car while enrolled as a UVM medical student.

Travel to clinical sites is a requirement of the Larner College of Medicine curriculum. This is required in coursework that begins in the first few weeks of enrollment."

I can't post links yet, but this was under the matriculation page of the website. You could probably argue access to Uber is access to a car.

Question... since the March 15th deadline passed, is Vermont still sending out straight up acceptances? Or is everyone who hasn't heard back yet basically waitlisted at this point? I interviewed in Feb. and am just curious how the process works...

What is the march 15 deadline?

From what I understand, it's the aamc asking med schools to issue enough acceptances to fill their expected class by that date.

Oh I have no idea I'm from the last interview date but they told us we wouldn't hear until late April which may actually be better since they'll know if/how many people are dropping etc by then and can hopefully offer acceptances not only WL

Any news from the 2/9 group? It looks like it's been over two weeks since they've sent out any decisions.

For those in the 1/27 group, they told us to contact them if we haven't heard back by the end of March. How long should we wait before we contact them? The stress of the waiting game is wearing me down

The long wait continues. I'm from the 2/9 group. Hang in there everyone.

Did they tell you guys when you'd hear? They told us on 2/23 mid to late April but April is Sunday so hopefully you guys hear soon
On interview day an admissions representative said late March. I communicated with another admissions coordinator recently and learned the window could be from any day now through the end of April. The waiting can be difficult. Again hang in there people.

Since we have to pick an acceptance by April 30th, does that mean schools have to finish accepting people by then? I have a WL, but no acceptances and nothing from Vermont yet.

Like for people without a decision does UVM have to let us know by April 30th?

I have no idea haha I hope so

Has anyone heard about financial aid offers yet? I'm not sure what UVM's timeline is like

noo, I know someone who got accepted off the waitlist at UVM 3 days before school started last year...

Aside from the fb group, is there another way to find housing options in Burlington?

Does anyone know how the itinerary of closer look day will generally work? Wondering if I can squeeze an apartment showing in either during a lunch break or directly after the day ends.

Did anybody else not get an acceptance letter in the mail...? I got accepted a couple months ago but never got a formal letter so I'm just wondering if I missed something lol

Seeing how closer look day is in 10 days, do you think they will be sending out decisions before then? I'm dying over here!

Anyone know when we should get financial info?

Still waiting to hear back from the 1/27 interview day. Do you guys think calling to ask for a timeline is worth it or just keep waiting?

It seems people have heard from that date so maybe no newsis good news? Still waiting for 2/23 so maybe they'll release them all at once

If you do, keep us posted, I'm still waiting from the 2/9 group.

I just got an acceptance to the only school I applied to in the Caribbean. Does anyone know how long I can wait on Vermont before I have to commit to St. Kitts? Don't get me wrong, becoming a doctor on a tropical island is way better than not going at all. I was clear with them that Vermont was my #1 and they were my #2. They were cool with it, but I'm going to have to start making preparations for St. Kitts soon. Does anyone know how far into the process of being ready for orientation I can be before I reach the point of no return? Can I back out like a month before? I don't want to ask St. Kitts that. It's not fair to them, and I know what it's like to have strangers judge you, so I'm not doing that to them.

Pls don’t.

Reapplying would be way better than attending a Caribbean medical school. A lot has been written as to why this is a bad idea.

Is it though?

I would strongly urge you not to go to the Caribbean based on all the reading I've ever done on the subject. You would be fighting a significant uphill battle your entire way for the scantest chance of one day practicing in the U.S. Do not put yourself through that. I can only guess at the uncertainty and pressure you feel in these application cycles, but going to the Caribbean or international is an objectively bad idea.

I'm a two-time applicant who finally got two domestic MD acceptances this cycle. If this is your first rodeo, I would strongly suggest reapplying. I know lots of people who took two tries to get into domestic MD programs. I've heard of people applying three times before they got in, and one of my friends goes to med school with someone who even applied four (!) times. Any domestic MD programs is far preferable to a Caribbean school in terms of residency matching. I know Caribbean med school grads, and they have an uphill battle. Many residency programs do not even consider caribbean graduates, regardless of their qualifications.

If you like feet, podiatry school (DPM) may be an option. Their application cycle starts in June (?) interviews in July, and school starts September of the same year.

I also know people who had better success with DO admissions.

To address your actual question, I know that med schools are aware that incoming students' plans may change at the last minute. If you get off the UVM waitlist, you can back out even days before. Schools understand that this happens, and there are no hard feelings.

I finally bit the bullet and emailed. They said all decisions will be sent out by the end of April. Two more weeks of winter.
