2017-2018 Wake Forest University

Did you submit the primary for all these places already? If so when? It's very late I would wait
Yes, about 3 weeks ago. But the secondaries are just rolling in in the last few days. I'm kind of wishing I didn't send it to some at this point, but I didn't want to send it to only a couple since my chances are so low this late.

I still have a very very solid chance of getting into the school I am currently attending for my M.S. (it is not Wake), and it is honestly probably my first choice, in terms of the school itself and the financial aspect of things. They consider our applications later to see our fall grades and I am doing quite well in all my classes. I just wish I could have any other option as well since I don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket again. Last year I did that for this same school (early decision) and they stomped on the eggs. After that, the timing was too late for any other school. However, this year I am a student here and doing well in my classes, with a dramatic MCAT increase.

Didn't learn your lesson the first time?

I did, but some things came up and I applied, was accepted and started this M.S. program during the time I was planning to work on the apps (while working full time). I still feel like retaking the MCAT was worth it and that is the main thing that set my app back, other than recommenders being difficult. Obviously I'm upset that I'm this late and I know that my chances are close to nil at any school other than the one I currently attend, but asking me a question like that is kind of rude. You don't know me or my situation.

Additionally, the things I was doing that set me back on timing for other schools have made me 10x more competitive for my first choice school. Worth it, I think, in the end. Obviously I wish my timing were different.

If you have the financial resources, I would go for it. The medical school process is complicated and nonlinear. As long as you apply before the deadline, who knows what may happen. Sometimes people who apply in October get IIs before people in July. Go for it!

Is the application status link not working for anyone else? Mine hasn't been working for a while.

Hey guys, just a heads up for any accepted folks...if you didn't get a reply to your email saying that you accept the offer, you might want to call/email again. They probably didn't see it if that's the case. I called the office today, and they didn't have my accepting the offer in their records.

Anyone know if Wake actively rejects applications as they move through the list?

I was complete in August. I’ve pretty much given up but would like to have a rejection so I can accept it.
We have gotten a record number of applications and they are still coming in from AMCAS. We try to review them in the order they are received, but that doesn't always go as planned. You may on the short list to interview or you may not. You may get a call soon, in January, or not at all.

Seems like everywhere is getting a lot more applications than normal this year. I wonder why that is? For example Wayne State usually gets like 4500 and their tracker right now says over 7600. Guess we are just lucky this year...

i know the application email said we can submit an update but its not guaranteed to be reviewed...if we submit one do we get some sort of confirmation email? I emailed one last night...I guess if review isn't guaranteed it shouldn't matter haha just wondering

I sent one in and received an email back from someone in the admissions office saying they had received my update, but could not guarantee review lol

For those who have interviewed, current students, alum...what do you really like about Wake Forest SOM?

Rejected . This was my first choice and my first rejection #SadTimes

I really liked the environment. There was clearly a collaborative vibe, yet enough of an edge that keeps people competitive for residencies. I also liked Winston-Salem, but I am a creature of the suburbs, so YMMV.

@Pathdocmd Can you provide an estimate as to when Wake Forest will send out their last round of IIs?

I liked the curriculum - I feel like the 18-month preclinical strikes a really good balance between having enough time to really get a feel for different specialties before applying for residency vs. spending a completely miserable first year trying to cram in two years worth of basic sciences.

Also, the people. My student host needed to study for a while, so I totally just hung out in the lounge with a bunch of other students on a random evening, and everybody was friendly, welcoming, and HAPPY. It actually felt like a place that I would want to spend the next four years of my life.

Not sure if this has been addressed but is wake forest responsive to in the area emails?

Complete september 12th. Silence over here.

Is it worth sending them an LOI pre interview if it's not guaranteed they will review it? I really don't want to get rejected by them lol.

You are welcome to send it in - no guarantees if they’ll review it, but I don’t see it hurting (just make sure it is a letter of interest, not intent). If you include an update, don’t include grades. On the other hand, they told us at the interview that if we get waitlisted we must send a letter of interest to stay on the waitlist. So you might want to save it for that (but that requires not being rejected, so I get your desire to send one now!).
