2018-2019 Texas Tech University - Lubbock

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes that’s the case according to TMDSAS but I would like to be able to hear back from them before that date
Not sure why we haven't heard anything back by now
2 and a half weeks away, I’m glad! I was thinking it would take until late February , the suspense is too much lol

If you’re OOS is there no set timeline for when you can hear back? The suspense is killing me.

There probably aren't a lot of people this will pertain to, but I thought I would drop it here anyway. I found out recently that both Lubbock ISD and Frenship ISD offer tuition waivers for Pre-K students if one of the parents is on active duty or was injured while serving on active duty. This saves ~ $4k per year in tuition per child.

Has anyone heard back from any of the dual degree programs yet?
No. I interviewed back in November and I asked when I'd most likely hear back and they didn't give me a straight answer. They just said it could be any time from December to the end of the cycle. Although I think I saw a post here that said that Texas schools have to send decisions about dual programs by January 10th since programs like MD/PhD require AMCAS rather than TMDSAS.

Okay I am still a bit confused about the match system, I was pre matched to UNTHSC, however I am ranking Texas Tech above UNTHSC. Say I get waitlisted at Texas Tech come match day, does that mean I lose my UNTHSC offer whilst there still being a chance of me never getting off a waitlist to Texas Tech? I just dont want to gamble my options.

Nope, your prematch to TCOM is guaranteed (provided you don't do anything illegal or stupid until then). You can rank any school above your prematch offer(s) without fear of losing the spot.

Does anyone know how many people are typically placed on the waitlist? Also of the 180 matriculats, does this include FMAT and dual degree programs?

MSAR says 60-100 waitlist positions per cycle and 20 acceptance offers granted to applicants on the waitlist. I think the the 180 matriculants does include FMAT and dual degree programs...

The 180 includes everyone in that year's entering class, so yes, all dual degree/FMAT students

Has anyone else contacted Tech re: dual degree admissions? TMDSAS said "By January 10th", which I interpreted as any time until then rather than on that date as a huge batch. It's all a bit concerning to not receive any news as the days go by

Does anyone know what Tech thinks of letters of intent? What should one say?

This info would be helpful, but I didn’t want to be the one to do it with how much I’ve been calling and harassing them for info already lol

Are they nice about it? I've been scared to call and ask because I don't want to be annoying and it possibly affecting my chances.

I know what you mean which is why I wanted someone else to do it haha
Maybe something to call TMDSAS about

Anyone from Nov 9 interview heard back yet? I know it was asked a while back, but just looking for updates. OOS and still waiting to hear anything.

I think our best bet to hear back from here, whether IS or OOS, is not until match day. I feel like Tech has been more of a match heavy school at least. At least theres been a lot of silence since Nov 15th

Since OOS doesn't match though, do you know how match day affects OOS? Just trying to figure out OOS timeline.

Do you think its the same case for dual degrees as well?

@-phantom- , @smhhhhh , @LikeAirIRise and other dual-degree applicants:
I have been searching out some information as best I can about your questions.

Most MD dual-degree applications are run through the AMCAS application system (mostly MD/PHD, MD/JD) and so they would not have anything to do with the TMDSAS Texas Match Day.
If you are applying to dual-degree Texas programs, you would usually apply to them via AMCAS. If you also want to be considered for MD only, you would need to apply to your Texas schools via TMDSAS as well.

The Jan 10 date is referred to often. It is not a hard deadline for schools to make a decision on your dual-degree application. This date is thrown out there because : if you are a Texan, and you still have heard no news by then about dual-degree applications, you can have a week to rank your MD-only applications and get your rankings submitted in time for the Texas Match. This might get you an MD match.

Texas Tech Lubbock seems to take some dual-degree applications via TMDSAS (MD/MBA and MD/MPH). They also state that to be eligible for the second degree half, you must first be admitted to the MD program via TMDSAS. I assume most of you interviewing at Texas Tech for your dual-degree also had an interview component for the second degree half.

"This reply is Too Long" ... hang in there with me...

SO, if this sounds like you, and you are a Texan :
1. Rank all your MD interview schools via TMDSAS
2. Keep waiting to hear on the dual-degree part.
3. If you later get a dual-degree offer which you would prefer to your MD Match, you can politely send your regrets to the Texas school and give up your spot.
4. OOS applicants to TX schools can hear at any time and the Match date is irrelevant.

Great information, thank you! I also heard some info today re: Tech's dual-degree program from a friend who's in it. He basically told me not to worry if I don't hear something by Jan. 10 (as you said).

Hey did you guys set up your eRaider account? Was it necessary for anything during the application process? I just set mine up and I was curious because according to that email I got 2 months back the next step was to activate the domain account.

Just out of curiosity what eRaider account? I prematched here, did the stuff the required + background check and I don't remember having to set up a special account

I got an email back in November before I interviewed saying that because I'm applying to this school I was an assigned an eRaider and Domain account. It said that I could activate and use them following certain instructions given in the email. It also says that these will be utilized to access the services I may need during the application process.
I don't really know what they mean by the last sentence.

Wow, congratulations! I'm hoping for the same acceptance. When did you interview? And how did they accept? Letter, phone, email?

Thank you! I interviewed 9/28 and received my regular MD prematch on 11/15, so I am guessing the MPH program takes a longer time to go through their candidates and make decisions—I hope you hear good news soon! I got an email but the full letter & info were on the TTUHSC portal.

Ohh, I see. Thanks and congrats again!

Are you a dual degree program? The only time I was given a login was to access the portal for the secondary/interview/acceptance info. The portal was not a eRaider account domain.

You could login given that info you received and see what it requires you to do. No harm in checking it out

I got an email offer, as well as it being posted on the secondary portal. Never got any physical letter - lowkey disappointed because I wanted to frame it lol

I never got a physical letter from Tech either (though I did from the other schools) and was a bit disappointed as well because I wanted it as a keepsake.

Yeah I'm a dual degree applicant. I'm applying to the MD/PhD program at TTU. I checked out all that stuff, it seems to be an additional portal and such.

Has anyone heard of any MD/PhD acceptances to this school? I'm curious to know if any decisions have been made.

@Anto211 There's a good thread where MD/PhD applicants are posting their acceptances on a running list.
Here: *** 2018-2019 MD/PhD Acceptances ***
I don't see anyone at Texas Tech Lubbock yet.

If you are also applying MD-only to Texas schools you can submit your Match rank list, and if later you get a MD/PhD acceptance you can accept it, then notify the MD school where you matched about the news. (If you would give up your Match spot in favor of the MD/PhD spot.)

I'm not sure about the other dual degree programs, but I was told that the school only accepts about 5 M.D/MPH dual degree applicants per cycle. Just in case anyone could use that info

Any additional info on the MD/MBA? How many spots are there? When are the final round of acceptances sent? Stats of those accepted already?

Rejected pre-II today. Long wait after my secondary was complete in June! OOS, LM 65
