2018-2019 Virginia Commonwealth University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What does it say on the portal?

I just have:

APPLICATION STATUS
You have a morning interview scheduled for 11/29/2018.

Your interview is now complete! The Committee will now do a review of your application. Once this review is complete, you will receive a status update regarding your profile.
My bad - forgot about that intermediate status. Assuming you aren't flat rejected (fingers crossed for ya), below is the final post-interview purgatory/status before potential acceptance.

Guessing that portal change should come for you this week, but VCU was closed for snow yesterday which may have affected the Monday Committee meeting...
The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for possible acceptance at a later date. We anticipate making offers around October 16, December 16, February 16, and March 16. If any of these dates fall on a weekend the offers will be made on the following Monday. Only offers of admission will be made on the dates above.

Your profile will remain on hold, and you will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change you will be contacted about will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list (the alternate list is formulated in early-April), or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

Please refrain from contacting the Admissions Office. We thank you for your interest in our school

@Dean Mission Since VCU was closed on Monday, when will the committee meet to discuss those that interviewed early December? Will these interviewees be considered for the Dec 17 acceptance?
Barring any unforeseen events, anyone that has interviewed before 12/17 will be through committee and up for a potential offer on Monday. Selection meeting on Monday will be long. I would not expect any offers to be made until at least 4 PM.

Does anybody know (applicants or current students) if the tests for the preclinical years are NBME based?

@Azmkv if IS at this point I would throw in the towel. It was said earlier that OOS interviews are much more likely(since those students would take their IS school.)

i got an automated email saying that i had a change in my application status but when i logged in to the portal, all it said was that my file review was done but nothing else...did this happen to anyone else?

I'm sorry if this was asked before, but does anyone know if this school takes update?

Been in review since July.

No pre II updates.

Oh, did they hint towards the exams being similar to NBME, or harder/easier? Thanks!
From what I know, they write questions to be very similar to NBME. I think harder/easier is more difficult to determine as that’s all relative. Depends on the student, the professor, and the material.

VCU does their reviews of interviewees on Mondays. Last Monday, VCU was closed for snow, so they have more people to review than normal. Dean Mission let us know that the meeting today is going to be long. So I know it's hard, but I think being patient and readjusting your expectations for portal updates at 6PM is your best bet.

So what I am reading is to frantically refresh all day just in case? /s

Good luck today everyone!
MMI Prompt:

Do you sacrifice your firstborn for an MD acceptance?

**Opens door and stumbles into seat** Hi... yes nice to meet you.

In this situation there are several sides to consider. From the viewpoint of the baby, being sacrificed is an event that would be both unfortunate and painful. There is, however, the view of the society to consider. Perhaps sacrificing the baby would bring luck upon the people, or perhaps being admitted into school after said sacrifice would allow me to help a greater number of people in my lifetime. When viewing these circumstances I would have to consult with someone more qualified than me- perhaps a high up occult priest or medical school dean.

Thank you for your time!

**Walks over to next prompt and suddenly realizes that sacrificing things probably isn't viewed favorably in America and that maybe my answer was a bit too middleground...**

WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY, I DO NOT NEED AN ADVERTISEMENT EMAIL THAT SAYS "SCHOOL OF MEDICINE" IN THE TITLE TODAY!

Good thing is that if I have a heart attack, at least I'm already in the ER.
The audacity!

Real question here. If we have the hold status and we get passed over do we get some sort of notification of that? Or do you know you are passed over if nothing changes.

@Dean Mission did you say those 100 interview spots that were recently added have been given out? And do you tend to send interviews to more OOS people later in the cycle or is it pretty evenly spread out throughout the whole cycle?

Does VCU call and notify us of acceptances or do we have to look on the portal?
