2019-2020 Rochester

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Via MSAR for last cycle:
In-state: 1297 applicants, 464 interviewed, 39 matriculated
Out-of-state: 4004 applicants, 170 interviewed, 64 matriculated
So in-state applicants have a very low post-interview acceptance rate whereas out-of-state applicants have a near-100% post-interview acceptance rate? I wonder if that creates a weird dynamic between IS and OOS applicants at interviews...
I wonder if IS students tend to choose one of the 4 public schools for the cheaper tuition, causing the very low matriculation rate.
Edit: I just looked it up, and now I'm pretty sure this is what it is. Tuition is 20,000/year more than the public schools, and just looking at average stats I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the typical NY student getting accepted to UR is likely to also hold SUNY acceptances.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does Rochester accept update letters pre-II?

if you're waitlisted you can - We welcome substantial updates, i.e. awards, a new job or volunteer position, publication or presentation. They may be sent via email to [email protected].

there is a place to upload additional documents on their portal but I don't know if that means you can add an update letter or not. It doesn't seem to specify one way or another on the portal or their website

For the activities section on the pre-interview questionnaire, does anyone know if it is ok to copy and paste some stuff from your AMCAS activities section?

Rochester keeps getting my heart rate up with these emails :/ first the admissions director emails me asking if I really want to apply to the MD/MBA program then when I say I want to switch they email me again to say thanks we updated your app and will notify you with a decision. I just want a II!!

Did you have to take the gmat or gre?

Just got an II! Is there a required/ideal timeline for submitting the essays following the invite? I can't seem to find any such deadlines on the application.

I believe they are just due one week before your interview! They are just for your interviewers to give them some context because the interviews are otherwise closed file (the interviewers only get to see your answers to those questions, your undergrad school, and your major)

Congrats! They sent it today?! When were you complete?

+1 for II, anyone know when they typically start releasing their rolling decisions? (asking because trying to be strategic about my interview date)

Quick question about the interview essays!!

So if my interview is on Tuesday, do I have until Tuesday of the previous week to finish and upload the essays? Or does the window to edit/submit essays close on Monday night? I completely forgot about the essays... 🙄

So in the document section, when updating, there is a choice of additional document and CV/Resume. By CV/Resume, do I just include things that have not been said in my primary app (a.k.a just updates) or include everything like a resume (everything including new updates)?

As an FYI, the pre-interview questions are locked after you submit them, even though they say you can edit your answers up to 3 or 7 days before the interview (based on the section).

To get them re-opened so you can edit, you need to either call the admissions office or email them (I called, but I'm assuming email also works) and they'll contact their IT department (or the portal's IT department I guess). It only took like 30 seconds on the phone, so no big deal if you need to do it.

Does anyone who interviewed in early September remember when they said they would get back to us? It was this week last year. Does anyone know if that is the case this year?

Interviewing here next week! Anyone have any tips or comments on the interview day? How was it, and what did you think of the school?

For the experiences part, did you actually list them, or did you give a brief description (roles, hours, etc)?

What are y'all thoughts on how to answer the 4 meaningful activities... would it be alright to just slightly retool your AMCAS experience descriptions and paste them there, given that interviewers will not have had the chance to see your primary application?

The way I personally did it was by just doing my experience name and then a brief description of what I did. I didn't make it into an essay or anything like on AMCAS. My reasoning is that this is almost EVERYTHING that they see, so I'm assuming they'll ask me to elaborate on my experiences with each. So I'll be able to explain a lot more of the in-depth/story-like stuff in person.
