Just got put on High Priority Alternate List. How often do people get off the HPAL? Is this the highest waitlist group you can be in?

dont know #s but i have 2 friends who got off of it last year and are currently m1s so its definitely doable.i remember one talking about calling every few weeks and sending in updates as the end of the cycle approached so it seems like they are receptive to them

I checked last years SDN in case I was put on HPAL and it seems it moves a lot more than other schools! Just remember to email them updates and to express your interest. I remember them saying that at the interview. They don't have a ranking. But emailing them will def increase your chances is what they said

On interview day I remember someone saying “they’ve gotten through it the past few years” so maybe close to 100%? I may have heard wrong though. If you do get off, won’t be until much later. If this is not the case someone feel free to correct me 🙂

is there a difference between alternate list and high priority alternate list?

AHHHH BEST DAY EVER!!! ACCEPTED!!!! OOS, interviewed 10/15, received the call yesterday (12/18) at 9:17 am!!!! This was my #1 choice, and I could not be more thrilled. SO happy for everyone else who got the good news!! And to those who heard otherwise, hang in there. It's not over until its over!

for accepted students: this might be a super neurotic question, but when signing our disclosure statement, would a traffic violation (e.g. speeding) qualify under "a crime, misdemeanor or other offense"? I only ask this because my understanding is that some schools (e.g. UVM) ask their applicants a similar question, and in that particular case, traffic violations would be included.

If they were just traffic violations and not something more serious such as reckless driving etc then likely no and if they did want disclosure of them and if came up on a background check my guess is a simple “my apologies,I did not think traffic violations qualified. Here is what happened” would suffice.
Also if it makes you feel better, I’ve gotten a speeding ticket and had multiple background checks since then. It hasn’t shown up on any of them.

Call and ask if you want, you don’t even have to disclose your name, just anonymously ask the admissions staff

Seriously debating making a Facebook so I can join..made it through the past like 15 years without one, do I really give in now haha

whether or not a traffic violation is considered a misdemeanor depends on what the violation was, the laws in the state of where you received the traffic violation, and how it is displayed on your driving or criminal record. Contacting your DMV can help with this!

Whooo accepted!!!

Does anyone know how to reserve the seat? Like, do you accept the acceptance and then go through the reserve the seat thing? I was unsure about it and I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for other schools I interviewed.

go to the portal, accept the offer and then do the essential functions + that one other thing in the same tab. There isnt a deposit or anything else to do. Congrats BTW

Thanks!!! Congrats to you too!!

And if I accept the offer, it isn't like I'm committing myself to go to RWJ, correct? Just want to make sure!

I had a reckless driving that I got dismissed and paid for a certiphi checked and it didn’t show up... so I think you’ll
Be fine!
it likely didnt show up because it was dismissed, not because traffic infractions etc dont come up on their background checks. Either way OP is fine, no one is rescinding an A over speeding

does it say “not complete” for the essential forms function for anyone else and that we just have to reread it? I’m pretty sure I signed that and clicked “I agree” or whatever either when I got my II or when I first got my secondary, since it dates back to August.
I had the same problem and I emailed admissions. they said its likely an error on their end and they're using the one i filled out on interview day to hold my spot. If youre having this issue i would email them too just to make sure your spot is secure.

thanks, didnt even noticed it wasnt listed as complete for me until now

So if I interviewed at NJMS and did not like it do you think theres any point in interviewing at RWJ? Are there major differences? Thanks

I wouldn’t not go to RWJ because of your NJMS experience. I interview at RWJ next week, but they are definitely two completely different schools

thanks for the advice! I would be coming from California, so it is a journey, but I dont want to miss the opportunity if I end up liking it.

That makes sense! These interviews can seem like a fill-time job 🙂
Best of luck at your interview!!
Wow! Congrats on getting both Rutgers schools from OOS!!

Anyone compile a list of pros/cons for njms vs rwj and care to share it lol?
I think there are a few on past threads but they basically come down to NJMS has a more diverse patient population (which is not really that true) and RWJ has a greater diversity of research opportunities. Another student on the interview trail on SDN mentioned that PDs don't know the difference between the two, although I'm not sure how that was verified. Also, RWJ does not funnel in as many BS/MD students (only has one program with Princeton University) and from my interview day, I felt like people came from a variety of backgrounds/ had impressive EC profiles if they were traditional applicants. I feel that this could be contributing to the strong sense of community I felt here that I didn't feel at the other schools I interviewed at.

My interview day at RWJ v NJMS was night and day.

RWJ actually seemed to care

I agree with this too. Interviewed at both schools and had super different experiences (my student hosts at RWJ even compared how different their interviews at both schools were). At RWJ I got way more of a sense of community and comraderie (for example rwj has social chairs that organize a ton of events / parties after exams where I dont think NJMS has). Also location is night and day. NJMS is in the middle of Newark- super underserved, urban area with not much to do in the city itself (but close to nyc) whereas rwj is in suburban central jersey, and I would barely consider New Brunswick, the neighboring city, a real urban area.

Thanks for the input! I have decided to schedule my interview 🙂

Happy New Year’s Eve everyone! I’ve been complete since 8/10 and haven’t heard back yet. I know that RWJ is the one of the few schools (correct me if I’m wrong and lmk if there are other schools that do this also lol) that you can email admissions to discuss the status of your application. Has anyone done that (for this school or in general) and was it successful? Thanks!

I think my friend did and even met with Dr. Copeland. It was earlier in the cycle though
