I think we all know just because a school says that doesn’t mean they’ll stick to it
And this is from the school that sent our "mid-August" intended secondaries in September.
Really I just think they're more enthusiastic about emails than they need to be. Just tell me when I'm complete and when I have an interview and I'm good!

Completed 9/12 and under prelim review 9/13 🙂 The email I got said it takes 3-5 weeks for this process

I just got an email today saying "We have completed the preliminary review of your application and you meet our admissions requirements. Your file is now being reviewed to determine if you will be selected for an interview. You will remain in this status until you are selected for an interview or the admissions cycle closes.
All the best,
Office of Admissions"

When did you submit if you don’t mind?

Very few schools do a complete requirement check before interview screening. My only guess is that due to their unique and strict requirements (Literature, Composition, 3 semesters humanities/social sciences, Clinical Letter) they have so many people applying without the full requirements that cutting people out in the preliminary stage saves them time.

Sort of frustrating though how they do the preliminary screen only after you pay the secondary fee. Would be a bit more admirable if they were to seriously screen for secondaries using this prereq checklist like some other schools do.. save some (by now) broke applicants an extra $80.

Has anyone been able to get into contact with them by email or phone lately? I had an issue submitting an extra document with my secondary

Sent one email and got a response.. responsed to that email a few days ago and nothing since. I’ve tried to call them every day for the past week and no answer

I've also been trying to call but it always goes to voicemail

lol great didn't see this before I submitted the secondary. I don't think I have a lit class

Those under preliminary review, when uploading your photo, did you just upload the photo or upload the photo and press done uploading documents?
Yup! I usually got a little antsy with uploading documents, so I double check to make sure it was uploaded. Which you can also do by re_clinging the upload button. Hope this helps!

i literally called them like 10 times but no response. sigh i need to figure out my LORs asap but they're so bad at responding to their calls

It’s the applicant’s responsibility to make sure they have the requirements completed.

Darn i am on the same boat. I have taken 2 english classes too.
Hmm I am wondering if they can still hand out II and have us complete the Lit class in Spring prior to matriculation?

I’m pretty sure most schools that have required courses just want you to have completed them by matriculation! So if you get an II from them this fall, you can call their admissions office and confirm you don’t meet that requirement and then plan to take that course in the spring (this is my plan for schools that require Calculus)

Ok thanks!

Also I dont see why schools require calculus. Statistics I understand but not so much calculus.

Hmmm feel like the MCAT does that job lol
I completely agree but not everyone is a great standardized test take and med schools are moving to everything on a quantitative level holistically. You can reason in calculus as well as standardized test as well as participate in extracurriculars. That’s just my opinion. Though

Yes, obviously this is a general understanding in most cases. There are many cases where it is unclear whether you meet their requirements if they’re more particular than most schools. For instance if HSMS takes APs in “general” topics to cover their more specific requirements for that same topic. Or if the word “literature” is omitted does that still count? Clearly they have an issue responding to applicants so it would be hard to check beforehand. If you think it’s ethical to take money from applicants before strict requirement screening or even passing onto review, when many schools have no problem doing this before even sending out a secondary, then you've lost me.

Preliminary Review complete just now
Awesome! I submitted my secondary within 30 mins of receiving it, and went into prelim review almost right away. And no review complete email yet. Fingers crossed it’s soon!

As a newer school, does anyone know what kind of research opportunities are available to students or how realistic of a goal it would be to do substantial/meaningful research at the school?

I can't speak for the medical school in particular, but as someone who has interned at Hackensack, I can say that Hackensack Meridian has extensive research opportunities. They were very big on interdisciplinary collaboration as well, and networking across different research departments. I would assume since the med school is affiliated with HM and it is in the same general area that research opportunities would at least be accessible.

Preliminary Review Complete... but I'm confused because I'm still waiting for my health professional letter of recommendation to arrive (assigned on AMCAS, expecting the letter to be complete this week). I also submitted a separate committee letter but this did not include the health professional letter. Did you guys think the adcom make a mistake or do you think the adcom saw that the letter was assigned on my AMCAS and didn't mind???

Maybe your stats were so amazing they didn’t care or they are flexible . Sometimes committee letters cover every base though.

Did they send you the email that indicates the preliminary review is done? Thank you!

LOL perhaps, but also the wording on their website suggested that the committee letter must also include a health professionals letter. Im leaning towards the fact that theyre flexible given that they can probably see the letter is assigned on AMCAS

It seems we must click the button "done with uploading"~
