If I rent an apartment in august, will I be able to be considered a NYS resident on time for my second year of med school? Maybe a second year student can enlighten me here?

Also congrats everyone!!

It looks like deadline to apply for residency is mid July for this year, so I am assuming it will be around the same time for next year. I am OOS and hoping to start a lease in early July for this reason. Hope this helps.

lol i got 5/10 AL and literally feels like im the only one still on it...
Based on the number of likes from a previous post, I believe there's 15+ SDN peeps who are on 5/10, which doesn't account for individuals who do not have an account.
So don't worry! We're still in this together, even alongside the 5/6 people!

Do you guys know when the deadline is to commit to enroll? I thought I saw it was July 13 but not certain..

Would any current out-of-state students be able to comment on key dates for getting NYS residency for in-state tuition by Fall 2021?

Also, can someone describe what a first generation immigrant student is? Multiple sources are saying different things..

This is what I got from a google search
First-generation immigrants are those individuals who immigrated to the United States when they are older than age 17; second-generation refers to individuals who were either born in the United States or immigrated to the United States prior to age 7 (Portes & Rumbaut, 2001).

I believe first generation immigrant is a student who was born in another country and they themselves immigrated here. If it was your parents that immigrated and you were born here, then I believe you would be considered a second generation immigrant.
