2019-2020 SUNY - Downstate

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We are referring to it disappearing on the actual checklist, not above it. It was listed on my checklist and disappeared today. I had already completed mine, sent from AMCAS. We are wondering if it disappeared by mistake, b/c of some glitch, or b/c Downstate received it and it disappearing after processing is normal or something.

Mine disappeared too. I e-mailed Downstate asking about how I should confirm I completed it and they said they receive reports from the AAMC so I am guessing that it disappeared because they got the report. Strange it doesn't just get checked off but maybe it's just some automated system idk.

The first email they sent about the scholarship said on the bottom that the subject area should be "Attn: Farah Burnett with Subject : Weinrauch Scholarship"
I think they get a ton of emails, so they filter based on this. They've been responding to my emails about this very promptly. It could also be that they answer questions, but don't send confirmation emails though.
The first email I sent I did use the "Attn: Farah Burnett with Subject : Weinrauch Scholarship" because I also had a question, but I never got a response back.

Any other updates on how much of the school will be online? Since Cuomo is allowing schools to open I hope it will be at least partially in person...

Although I'm still on the waitlist, I would like to know about this too. This decision would probably make a bit of an impact on the waitlists too.

My speculation is that this fall semester will be trial and error. Things will open up 100% and then put out the fire here and there to the best of their abilities. However, I think there will be some inevitable shutdowns and inconvenient situations on institution-wise to put out those fires. If it goes a bit out of control, things will switch back to online for sure..

EDIT: Until we have effective drugs and vaccines (encompassing widely mutated covid also), I feel like we would always go by the "two-week quarantine" obligations at any time during our academic years.
I work in a lab that did a lot of the essential covid-related sequencing analyses during the shutdown and it will take quite some time to be able to seriously go back to how we were 6-7 months ago.

Hey guys/gals on the alternate list. I emailed admissions about the alternate list and asked about my rank. They said there is no internal ranking. Just adding some info to this thread.

I really wonder what would be the utmost factor for them in choosing who gets off the waitlist. I can't imagine them scrambling through an entire waitlist pool every time the spot opens up haha. (Unless they don't have that big of a waitlist pool 🙂 which would be nice..)

what is the Weinrauch Scholarship?
thanks

I sent my transcript to them using the third party service by undergrad uses last week. Today they told me they hadn't received anything. I called the people I paid to sent the transcript and they said they had sent the electronic copy to Downstate a day after I ordered it. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do about this?

same thing happened to me, then a few days later they checked it off lol

Thanks, wonder what happened on mine. I did finish mine over a week ago. Did you finish your MSQ? I wonder if it disappeared because they got it?
Just got an email from Downstate stating that they removed the MSQ as a requirement and that it was totally optional. Screenshot for reference:

Quick question regarding the Pre-Matric Checklist. Does anyone know if we have to provide both immunizations and Quantitative Titers as well? Sorry if this question has already been asked.

I’m not 100% sure but I would imagine you need both because you could have gotten a vaccine years ago and no longer be immune

From student health:

"Please go to SUNY Downstate Medical Center web page, click on Student life, then Student Health, then Health forms, then download: History & Physical, Immunization & Laboratory record, Meningitis record, & Authorization record, with blood work for Quantiferon, Hep C titer, Quantitative Hep B titer, Mumps, Measles, Rubella and Varicella titers all should have a numerical value and CBC with Urine analysis also all required vaccines. Then you can have your PCP complete all forms as required, then you can scan them into (1) PDF and e-mail to [email protected] or fax to 718-270-2901"

But ppd should work instead of quantiferon.

Please dont forget HepC everyone! I only did bloodwork based on what was asked for on the forms and none of them asked for HepC Ab. I only realized they required HepC when I checked the pre-matric checklist (after my PCP appt) So I think I’ll have to go back..*sighs*

Thanks for the reminder! I’m going today and would’ve forgot

Hey fam, how long did it take you guys for student health to receive your pdf? Did they ever email back and say it was received?

exact thing happened to me

You definitely need both because this exact scenario happened to me. I got the vaccines, but I'm no longer immune.

You have to provide both. Make sure the titers are all quantitative. I had to resubmit my Hep B panel.

Thank you!! This helped a lot!

LOL you all basically made me realize that my doctor misread everything and i gotta go back to get certain quantitative titers. NICE
lmk how i went back after this and like two doctors came to me all confused saying why do i need blood work for titers if they wrote down the immunizations... I was like 😳😳😳 im just doing what my checklist said man IM SORRY. they did it anyways lol

U need to know if you are still immune to those diseases. Even if you got those vaccines ages ago, the Ab levels decrease over time. This why getting titers checked is important. If theyre low, you get a booster.

Based off of @ElloMellowYellow when I looked on the site you need either the Quantitative titers or the vaccine. Both would show immunity towards those diseases. Thank you though!

Information for Downstate in general has been mixed up, but you need titers. The forms i was sent were corrected to include 'and' titers instead of 'or'. You need to complete everything on the checklist.

You will need immunization proof and quantitative titers. I talked to someone in student health and he said the old form was uploaded before they could change it.

Did you just request to join or did downstate send an email link to you to join the group?
I requested to join but still not on it. Can whoever is in charge log on and give access to the incoming students who recently requested to join?

Dont leave us hangingggg. What is thiss
My fault guys. It's a summer program that introduces us to the type of material we'll see when med school actually starts. They make us take exams and quizzes and what not but none of it actually counts. Its like a prep.

Is anyone else

is the program exclusively for a certain group of incoming students? Why haven’t a bunch of us heard about it?

Did anyone get their student ID and downstate email yet?

NetID is student ID, I believe. If you go into the banner self-service, go under email addresses in personal info and it will have your email there. Then log onto the email section of myDownstate and use the email with your NetID password! There was no e-mail about it, but I was looking around my portal and stumbled across it. If you don't have the personal info section, it might just not be available yet (I am starting MPH so I got it now). Hope this helps!
