2019-2020 UC San Diego

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hear that apparently UCSD requires some forms/paperwork to be filled out before the interview. Also it says you need to bring some documents. Does anyone know anything about that?

Also hold, which is basically a soft R. Good luck to everyone who got IIs!
I read last year's thread and it looks like some people actually got interviews after the hold status sometime in February...very small chance but I guess it's not over until it's over lol

Hold as well. 4 pre interview holds and 2 rejections with no interviews. I hate my life

Please don't think that way. This is a tough process. You are not alone, and it's not over. SDN is very skewed by applicants "bragging" successes... you are in the majority with your situation and are still VERY MUCH in the game! We all have your back and are here to support you. DO NOT lose hope in this crazy process!

I've been trying to mentally rephrase "hold" in my mind from a depressed and monotoned perspective to this:

UCSD has a history of giving soft R and not an outright R. You can read threads from past years.

Thank you for the positivity. Definitely need some of that right now

Complete 7/25 and haven't heard anything. Is that their subtle way of a hard R since I didn't even get a hold email like it seems a lot of other people did who submitted at the end of July?

That may be true but I'm not gonna count on it. All of my friends from the last cycle that were put on hold at UCSD didn't get an II. It sucks that UCSD does that. I'd rather get the R instead of false hope, you know?

True! Would definitely rather know sooner than delay the eventual R

seems like they are super behind that 2-6 week timeline described in the complete email. Anybody complete in August hear back yet?
i give it seven weeks and then i would be worried. so next week if you got the secondary invite beginning or end of July.

I haven’t received any hold yet and was complete 7/13. I’ll probably be expecting that hard R soon.

I hadn't even thought about that! I was expecting a Hold but yes, there is probably a hard R coming for me as well.
Oh well!

No GPA typo. My cGPA is 2.89.

It doesn't tell the whole story though as I'm a non-trad and decades ago had to take three semesters worth of solid Fs due to some serious extenuating circumstances. I returned to college 20 years after I started and have a 4.0 GPA over the past 3.5 years finishing two BS's. So, while the cGPA really is an abysmal 2.89, my file benefits from the "holistic" view and the MCAT reflecting my more recent GPA.

Still I'm surprised that I'm getting secondaries from some of these schools that I really really would love to attend! Now, IIs... applying this late and with my baggage - yet to be seen.
Congrats! Hopefully they continue to evaluate us holistically throughout the process! Good luck to you!

Anyone know if there are traditional interviews built into the day or in the MMI stations?
