does anyone know if UCSD "prioritizes" processing of their alum?

if any UCSD graduates in this thread could provide insight to their processing turnaround, that'd be awesome (i know there are a lot of confounding variables)
I dont think there is someone that can answer that question for you, but UCSD does accept a lot of UCSD students into their medical school.

I doubt they prioritize UCSD alumni in terms of reviewing secondary applications. They are gonna be like all other schools and prioritize high stats/achievement/URM etc.

exactly as stated, the only preference is shown toward in-state and UCSD alumni comprises a lot of in-state matriculates

They said they’ll tell you if you’ve been invited to interview, put on hold, or straight up rejected after review on the email I got
If you look at the email it actually says that if you’re rejected they will tell you during the cycle aka at any time

Hi, I understand that my deadline for the UCSD secondary application is August 31 because I received the email invitation to complete a secondary on July 31. However, what is the TIME deadline on August 31?

I finished my secondary but my boyfriend will do edits, however he is traveling for LDW and won't be able to get to it til tomorrow. What is the latest TIME I can submit it? Hoping its not tonight at 11:59PM.

Thanks!

Hey, it's not a super rigid deadline so even if you submit September 1st you will be okay! Better to get a quality application in than try to rush and submit for the deadline which is more of a suggestion. I think several people on this thread called and were encouraged to submit even after the 30 day "deadline"

"After we receive your completed secondary application and fee payment, if typically takes 3 - 8 weeks for us to notify you of your status regarding a possible interview invitation."

Typically. It could take longer. As I said. They could be backed up.

going through this process on SDN really shows the prevalence of the misconception "early complete = early II" amongst pre-meds

yall need to relax its literally month 1 of a ~12 month cycle

Exactly. A lot of high achievers in this thread that are at/above UCSD's stat range and are good candidates for interviews I'm sure. I highly doubt all the LM 75+ candidates in here have been given a "soft R" this early in the cycle by UCSD. Especially seeing how successful at other California schools a lot of people in this/these threads have been. They have a lot to sort through. Different schools go at different paces.

Just graduated from UCSD. I wouldn't say that they prioritize their alums, but I do think they prepare us well for their specific program. Former admissions committee members and other faculty members give talks a few times a year about the admissions process, which I'm sure at least slightly lean towards their specific preferences. The medical school is also across the street, so its not too difficult to meet med students and ask them about the program. They're usually quite open to talking to us and also sometimes do Q&A and pre-med advising events for undergrads through student orgs. All this being said, I have no idea if other schools do the same things.

It's also possible that UCSD alums may make up a larger portion of their class because a ton of our undergrads apply (in 2018, 463 UCSD undergrads applied to the medical school, 40 were accepted, 30 matriculated - per our academic advising office)

Out of curiosity, has anyone here received an R yet?

Based from last year's thread, the slew of Rejections was literally sent on March 1st. I'd assume something similar for this cycle.

EDIT: This means you can expect a long silence until March.

That's true. But last year they started putting people on hold late August while this year, they don't seem to have done that. I wonder why is that.

Last year they started doing things early and even sent PRIME-Heq invites in August last year. This year seems to have started doing things later than expected, but I wouldn't write that off as a complete overhaul of their reviewing system. It's hard to start from scratch and just throw out a previous way of reviewing. Sorry it sounds kinda like doom and gloom, but UCSD has been around for so long that there's already a pattern/system of reviewing. I'd suggest looking into SDN threads from previous cycles, so you can see patterns.
