Does anyone know when decisions will be going out?
They said that they really don't know at this point, they're working on the transition to remote admissions committee meetings and haven't figured everything out yet. Also they've only had 4 interview sessions so far, I don't know if that's enough for them to release decisions yet. But because they're so small it might be? Everything's kind of up in the air at this point, we'll just have to wait and see!

I feel like they’re going to be more focused on solidifying their interviews rather than their acceptances, especially with the remote aspect of their meetings. Remember, they likely only need 32 acceptances or so. People want to go here, no matter when they hear A or R.

Don’t expect to hear anything until May, and be pleasantly surprised if you hear back before.

Is anyone who is interviewing tomorrow slightly confused? i feel like we have gotten no guidance or information about the virtual interview tomorrow. I received 2 zoom link emails with no further information. How long is the interview portion, how long is the total interview day, what will be covered, what time are the individual interviews? so many questions unanswered and im wondering if theyre going to send out another email with clarifications or not. Im trying hard not to be paranoid and to be patient lol but no one has posted anything in here regarding the interviews and i dont want to bother the admissions committee quite yet.

For my interview, in the zoom link emails they gave a brief overview of the day. Mine went like this: start (~9) with intro from the dean/admissions office, then MMIs (~10), and when they're over they have presentations from financial aid and each of the departments, along with a Q&A. Of course there's no guarantee they're going to follow the same format.

Thank you for this clarification!

I was also about to post here asking if people interviewing tomorrow received a detailed schedule for tmr's interview. The second zoom email is brief and contains no mention of a time. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself, do you remember if the UHCOM MMI duration was 70min, 80min, or 90min? Each school is kinda different. Thanks again Wolvvs 🙂

Happy to help! They didn't end up sending out a detailed schedule, so I don't 100% remember, but I think it was on the shorter end, probably closer to 70 minutes.

Cool, thanks again Wolvvs and good luck with everything 🙂 ! Also, sending well wishes to everyone during this COVID-19 pandemic. Stay safe friends.

Is there any information on how UHCOM will conduct classes? Is it p/f system or graded ? Are lectures going to be mandatory? I know its a new school but hoping someone who has interviewed here already may have this information from Q/A or presentations provided.

did the confidentiality/non disclosure link in the email for interviewers for tomorrow work for any of you? its not working for me and it states that it needs to be done before tomorrow.

Try downloading the non disclosure/confidentiality agreement through the applicant portal (in your communication status tab). If this doesn’t work, then ask about this during the interview or send an e-mail tomorrow. I think it needs to be done by the end of tomorrow (11:59 pm).

Someone else can speak to the class style and mandatory lectures but I do know it’s true pass/fail the first two years and it will be a mix of PBL and lecture I believe.

Rotations will be H/P/F. For the other questions penicillinman you should ask during your interview and let us know 😛

YOU GUYS! I GOT AN INTERVIEW! 🙂 Will be performed via Zoom on Thursday.

Stats?

Have an interview tomorrow but haven’t received a zoom link yet. Anyone interviewing tomorrow heard from them yet ? I tried contacting them but no response.

Anybody getting a 404 error when trying to upload the non-disclosure agreement?

Anyone knows how many and how long the MMIs are? Is there any time for us to look at the prompts and think before answering?

It seems UH will be testing a proof of concept across the next few years with how they’re planning to structure their rotations almost exclusively at outpatient clinics and HCA sites. Does anyone (faculty and especially those on the other side of medical school or having finished their training) have any thoughts about how this could affect a medical student’s education?

Just thinking about how I’ve leaned that outpatient care and private practice is less standardized than academic hospitals (and what this might mean for what students are taught in order to prepare for board exams etc). Also thinking about how a UH student might be the only student rotating at the HCA sites.. and what that might mean in terms of missed learning opportunities that naturally occur when other Med students, residents, and trainees share space. Anyone have a response or other thoughts about all of this?

Only having outpatient sites definitely hinders your clinical education but yet again their mission is to train primary care docs?

True, yes but I know and have shadowed lots of primary care docs that work at or are affiliated with academic hospitals (in their hospital-based clinics) so I’m trying to understand if I’m wrong in thinking that academic medicine and outpatient care aren’t mutually exclusive.

you will get a better clinical education at an academic hospital, then community hospital is beneath that then outpatient centers.. plus academic hospitals are nice because you can establish connections with professionals who have clout behind their name

The longitudinal primary care is outpatient (phases 1, 2, and 3 of curriculum), the longitudinal integrated care includes 16 weeks of inpatient, hospital-based internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and OB (phase 2), the longitudinal ambulatory experience is self explanatory and is 24 weeks of surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics-gynecology, family medicine and psychiatry (phase 2), the advanced electives of ICU, emergency, sub-internship and rural health are 16 weeks which I imagine to be in patient (phase 3) and there are 12 weeks of wild card electives (phase 3)...so to me it seems to be heavier on outpatient but I wouldn’t say drastically if one chooses to do electives in an inpatient setting. I hope this helps someone. Also, please correct me if I’m wrong anywhere above

Yes that's accurate. It's true that in 3rd year, 6/10 months are ambulatory whereas 4/10 are inpatient. In 4th year, 4/16 months are required but the remaining 12 months can be allocated however. So yes there's an ambulatory focus but I don't think that will prevent students from doing what they would like to do. And particularly for students interested in procedural specialties, I think there's a definite advantage to being one of only a few (or maybe even the only) trainee.

In the end, students will get the vast majority of their training as residents, and while the status quo for most medical schools is that students spend most of their time on inpatient services, there's no particular reason to think that's the best way to train.

Does anyone know up until when offers can be extended as per the TMDSAS timeline? It’s not clear to me.

After May 15th, they can no longer extend offers to students with an acceptance at another TMDSAS school. So it's likely they will make offers in advance of that deadline. There's nothing preventing them from theoretically making offers to OOS or TX students without an A until classes start, but that's probably not the best way to fill their class 🙂

I submitted my confidentiality form incorrectly :-( I emailed it to admissions versus uploading it into the portal. I glazed over that interview email. Should I email admissions to make sure my NDA is accounted for since it wasn't in my portal the same day as my interview, but instead uploaded 2 days later?
Have a nice safe weekend!

What are they going to do, ask you to go back in time and upload it on the correct day? You're fine 🙂

True haha thanks Wolvvs! Yay, I won't bug admissions w/this. I'm so on edge while we wait for an admissions decision. Thanks again 🙂!
