2019-2020 Wake Forest

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Their portal seems much different than other schools. Is anyone able to see where you check your status?
If you click on the button that says "Check receipt" (or whatever it is), a pop-up will appear where you can submit updates and other stuff. On the top of that pop-up, you'll see a "MD application status" (or something like that lol, too lazy to check now). Mine just says my file is complete, and it's been like that since I've submitted. Not sure if this is what you're looking for though.

Yeah that's what I was looking for, thanks!

anyone who got R mind sharing any clues as to why you got R'ed? Stats low, red flag, no research? etc

Yeah, I have no idea. My MCAT is somewhat mediocre (511) but I can’t imagine that’s it when their average is a 512. I do have a low undergrad gpa (3.55) but I did an SMP and got a 3.9 so I don’t think that’s it either. Four years of research here, too. I got all my secondaries read by multiple advisors, pretty sure they were solid. Sometimes it’s just not a good fit I guess? A little confused bc I am a reapplicant and I didn’t get rejected until March last year.

Maybe they don't like reapplicants? Did you significantly improve your app over the last year?

I am a current M1 and got in my second time applying to Wake, don’t think they dislike reapplicants. Improved my app, but nothing too extraordinary.

Yeah, same, I spent the year getting quality clinical experience, I learned a new language related to my volunteer experience and I marginally improved my mcat (2 points). It’s probably just a fit thing.

Anyone else having trouble getting into the portal after submitting their secondary? I'm using the link in the original email...

Hey a 3.55 is not a low GPA. Do not put that hate on me 😉. But in all seriousness do not think that is a low GPA. You are golden over that 3.5 baby.

This school gets an insane amount of primary applications. Schools reject a ton of amazing applicants because they think they are not a good fit for their school. Doesn't speak to your candidacy elsewhere!

My stats were similar, doing a master's right now and got a higher GPA, NOT a reapplicant, but still got the L on this one

no. submitted secondary 7/22. then got email today 7/25 saying decision reached.

Can I ask you your stats? I'm surprised if they read your app that fast and came to a rejection decision this early unless you weren't really in the competitive stats range. Keep your head up though, you got this!

It took me so long to figure that out, I thought it was Institutional Actions for a looooong time

It is that as well, I believe. It will of course be obvious which it is based on the context of the thread lol.

One of my friends last year applied to UC Irvine early in the cycle. He submitted his secondary on a Saturday evening and was rejected Monday morning...
There’s no way in hell they could have reviewed his app that fast.
Some of these schools just want your secondary fees.

Congrats to everyone! What are the interview date options if you guys don't mind my asking?

Hi all, please give me some advice here.... I was hired in February to work as the research assistant for a clinical study this upcoming academic year. Since February I have been doing training and have been a major piece of planning the project. Our team consented the subjects about a month ago, and have been doing some preliminary scans on the subjects this summer. Just yesterday, we had a handful of subjects drop out of the study, and now it is cancelled. Since I started this job months ago, it was listed on my primary application and I stated it would last until april of 2020. Now that it is cancelled, I found a different research job. What do I do now? Do I need to email every medical school I applied to and inform them that I wont be working in the study listed in my primary app? I'm sure similar things happen often where study subjects drop out and the whole project is canceled. Please help. I was thinking I could add it as an update to my app, but some schools dont allow any updates, so I don't know what to do.
I would be cautious to use words like "cancelled." There's a nicer way to write that you're no longer working on a project. Honestly you could probably not mention your first project in the first place while writing "i am now working on ____" in your update. Also, i would hold off on sending an update so early in the cycle. Wait till September, October, at LEAST. You may even get an II prior to that. (I could be completely off the mark so if I am, please someone correct me)

Thank you for the advice. I'm just concerned that schools may end up calling my PI for that project later in the cycle, then she will tell them that the study fell apart at the start of august. If i wait too long to tell adcoms they may think I was trying to hide this and will ask why I waited so long to notify them of this change

Haha I'd say theres just about 0% chance of this happening. I think it's probably just a good idea to send an update letter to any schools that you're invited to interview at and probably all the others by about October or November. Doing that, it will be clear that you are not trying to hide anything, but simply that your plans have changed. Just focus on how you're now pursuing something else instead and give a brief explanation about how continuing that previous plan was not possibility.

Dude, why are you posting this in a school specific thread? Create your own thread in the premed section... like 90% of the peeps here (including myself) are neurotic af and use these threads to see when II are being sent out for specific secondary date submissions

posted it before and had no reply. sort of something I needed advice on ASAP. just take a deep breath and relax my guy. everyone on this page is just as neurotic, including myself, which is why I tried posting this question in school-specific threads when nobody responded before.
Look at the premed thread right now, and see what I did after getting little response to my thread. Do that in the future

Lol @2Broke2bMD way to delete your post

there's no point in arguing with you on it, so to avoid bothering everyone else in this thread I just deleted it. I wish you the best going forward, maybe just take a day off from this thread and relax man...its pretty obvious u need it.... everyone's on the same team, neurotic pre meds who are stressing non stop.

hey! Im sorry, I didn't mean to imply that. its more my undergrad science gpa which is under a 3.0 because I was a physics major. Youre awesome!! 🙂

ah just realized I didn't send the CASPer to them... submitted secondary on 7/4 :smack:

edit: I was having issues getting into the portal and I just assumed I was good to go... don't assume that, fellow applicants. Fingers crossed they show some mercy

Literally the exact thing happened to me three days ago...

Show some mercy how? It's still early August, you should be totally fine not submitting CASPer until now. Mine won't even be in for 1.5 more weeks haha

I'm not concerned about how early it is in the cycle. Moreso about the huge gap between submitting my secondary and realizing that it wasn't complete. Worried it might show a lack of interest... hopefully they won't even notice

Haha I understand worrying about little things as a typical neurotic pre-med, cause I do the same thing, but you have nothing to worry about bro. If you were going to receive an II in mid July then you will still receive an II in mid August.

Hey schools really don’t care about these things. Think about how much information they have, primary, secondary, letters of Rec, transcript, etc. There is NO away they’re looking at when they sent you the secondary and when you were complete.
