2019-2020 Wake Forest

Ok “worst airport in the country” is like the exact opposite. CLT Douglas has all the food you could want in an airport.

Well if I went to the airport for food haha... I mostly go to airports to fly places. I flew 12-15 weeks a year in my last job, all over the country and that was my experience. We missed so much work flying through CLT

Will there be student housing available for interviews? Or should I not rely on that and just book a hotel?
It really depends on how many people are requesting it and how many students are available to host that particular day. I hosted a handful last year and I've got one lined up this year so far.

I am interviewing here in early September and I am very excited and nervous! 🙂

If any current students or anyone who has interviewed could post any advice here, or DM me, I'd be extremely grateful!

I really like everything I've heard about this school so far, just a little worried since my GPA and MCAT are slightly below their average.

If you have an interview then your GPA/MCAT are good enough. They wouldn't have invited you if you didn't have a strong chance at acceptance. Focus on the interview!

Also interviewing early Sept and my GPA is way below the median. We got this!!

I received a student host for 9/6. All I had to do was indicate that I was interested and they found one for me

Yes. Once you have confirmed your interview date there will be a link to fill out a google form to link you with a student host if there is one available.

I filled out the google form for 9/11 and haven't received any info about student host yet. I'm afraid if I book hotel later, it might get more expensive

How long ago did you submit? Because they 1st have to receive your info, get in touch with a student host, and then a potential student host has to respond. But I would reserve a hotel just in case if you are worried about this.

I submitted a request the day I got an II which was last Tuesday.

Another question - if a school says "application under/awaiting review" (like on Kaiser/Miami Miller/Georgetown portals" does that mean they havent looked at your app yet?

Each one of those schools probably gets >10000 applications a year. There are only so many an algorithm can nix.

Current M1 at Wake Forest.. Don't worry about these things. Everyone is nervous about this sort of stuff, that's normal. Just be yourself in the interview. As one of the deans of a top notch medical school told me going into my interviews.. the interviews are only there to show the medical schools 1. Is this person a decent/genuine person? 2. Can they work well with others and be part of a team? 3. Can they stay calm and just go with the flow when something new comes up? 4. Can they find some middle ground with things and not just take extreme sides? (which would affect part 2).. and even if you do take a kinda extreme side, can the person still be open-minded to other opinions.. That's it... if the answer is yes then they will want you. That is the basis for any decent job out there too. You will do fine. They aren't going to give you an interview if you don't deserve it.

Also, don't worry about the scores thing! My class has a lower than average GPA than the usual classes they take but slightly better MCAT. And I know some great people here that I am friends with who had lower scores for both, but who are awesome people. I am telling you, the scores and background stuff/extracurriculars get you the interview, but after that.... The interview itself is truly all that matters, not the scores really.. They would much rather take someone with an okay GPA and MCAT that they think is a better fit than someone with an insanely high GPA and MCAT who they think wouldn't mesh well with the rest of the class if their personality is so-so. So relax and have fun with it. You've done the hardest part already (getting the interview), just enjoy the ride. And if by chance you don't get into your first interview or get waitlisted or something, keep grinding. Every school isn't always going to be a perfect fit. That's life, on to the next one to impress

submitted my secondary 8/22. How long is the turnaround time for II's if one is to receive one? Just hoping and praying over here. LizzyM=70

Hard to project, based on this forum it seems like there have been two waves if IIs so far during the 2bd and 3rd week of August. Turnaround can be based around how competitive you are, mission fit, random chance, and a number of factors.

Hey all, does anyone know if Wake Forest is amenable to asking for additional interview options? Got invited for the day i'm going out of the country. Planning to call/email but wanted to know if anyone else had an experience too

What days did you two get interviews, or what time frames? Congrats to both of you!

Does anyone know what sort of MMI's they have? Is it scenarios with patients? Is it personal questions about yourself? And do they ask about anything that'd need prior knowledge, like healthcare policy?
Answering this question would violate the confidentiality agreement the applicants sign. As far as I know, it is the same for all schools that use the MMI. Duke once rescinded an acceptance due to this. So, be careful...

Do y'all think it's worth it to stay with a student host or to stay at a local hotel or airbnb?

I’m going with a hotel cause the area is pretty cheap and it’s my first one, so I want to make sure i get in the zone beforehand 🙂

For 9/27 interviewees- I’m renting a car since I have to fly into GSO and out of CLT.

If anyone wants a ride to CLT I’ll be leaving as soon after the interview as I can! Flight out of CLT at 6:30.

Admissions office let me know the interview day is always on time will be done by 1:15 if not 1PM

Yeah I was given three options, but I couldn't go to any of them. They're very nice about it when you contact them (I emailed and got a response the same day) and will email you when they add new dates that you can choose from.

Current M1 here trying to figure out who @wannabedoc101 is. We know all our classmates.

I hosted a student last week and as survivors who have lived through the traumatic exciting experience of med-school applications, we students try our best to accommodate and provide the best environment possible for those coming to interview. During my interview, I stayed at a hotel with the loudest A/C that kept going on and off every 30 minutes and managed to get 2 hours of sleep the night prior so I would not recommend that to anyone.

Regarding my personal experience with my hostee - although we are not required to spend time with our hostees, we had dinner together and I showed him around the school introducing him to a plethora of my classmates at school the evening prior. He said he was glad he chose to stay with a host since he felt less nervous about the whole process. As a plus, everyone that he had met the night before wished him luck during his tour and made him seem popular among current students.

Best luck to everyone and feel free to message me if you have any questions.

I know there is a confidentiality agreement, but are you guys allowed to share how many MMI stations there are? And is it 7 mins each, 2 mins to read the prompt?
