Accepted off the waitlist for the MD-PhD program this morning! So excited! My first acceptance and top choice!
Congrats!! I’ve known a few MD-PhD at UB and they’ve all loved it. I’m sure they’re thrilled to be having you

Kinda surprised there's really been nothing this month yet

Same and it's making me really anxious. Doesn't UB historically have a good amount of WL movement compared to other schools?

This is weird.. but could it be that due to the competitive nature of this cycle not a lot of students have multiple As? That's probably why the waitlist movement is slow?

I think that even though there are more applicants this year, the number of interviewed students at each school remained the same, so I personally don’t think the competitive nature of this cycle effects the number of A’s.

But this is all speculation.

There is no reason to think there will be substantially different WL movement this year. They are probably just a few days behind for whatever reason. I wouldn't worry those of you on the WL.

Did they over-accept too hard this cycle and even though a lot of people withdrew their A’s, they still don’t have available seats?

I’ve looked at some of the medical schools at New York in specific and wanted to see how the waitlist movement was going:

For the numbers listed below it was only MD-only applicants.

University at Buffalo 2019-2020

May 8 – 1 person accepted

May 14 – 1 person accepted

May 20 – 1 person accepted

May 22 – 1 person accepted

June 29 – 1 person accepted

People have said that “not a lot of people report themselves getting off the waitlist”

New York medical college 2020-2021

May 3 – 5 people accepted

May 7 – 4 people accepted

(pretty heavy movement here – early weeks)

New York Medical College 2019-2020

May 4 – 2 people accepted

May 12 – 4 people accepted

May 18 – 2 people accepted

(I guess the movement happened little later)

University of Rochester 2020-2021

May 5/6 – 2 people

Overall 30 will be offered admissions from 350 put on waitlist – from AAMC.

University of Rochester 2019-2020

May 13 – 1 person

May 22 – 1 person

June 3 – 1 person

I think the waitlist movement would be pretty consistent from prior years. The waitlist support thread: 2020-2021 Waitlist Support Thread

Considering UB has historically had high WL movement in comparison to other schools, I'm really surprised to not see any movement here or on Reddit :/

So I don’t know if this is a similar situation but I called suny upstate this morning (also on the waitlist there) and they said they won’t have updates about waitlist movement for like 3 weeks. Maybe UB is doing something similar

Did they say why?

No. Essentially the dean of admissions said in the winter that come mid may, we could call and ask about our chances of getting off the waitlist. So I called and they just said that they didn’t have info yet and would have more in about 3 weeks. I spoke to a secretary (I assume) who had to go ask someone about it so I didn’t want to push it (because 1: she was just relaying the message and 2: I didn’t want to look bad by asking as I’m desperate lol)

Have you by chance called UB for the same info? I hope we all make it 🤞

I haven’t. Mostly because upstate explicitly said we could call while I haven’t heard the same thing from UB. If someone else wants to, feel free, but I’m not sure if that’s something I want to do. I doubt it would affect anything but I don’t want to take chances

I emailed last week, and received a positive reply saying waitlist at UB is a great position to be in, and to stay positive. But they said the waitlist cycle wouldn't end until August 2, 2021.... and that we can ask for app feedback after this date 🤔
