Didn't get the email, but I gave up here after not hearing back when it was the earliest application I submitted in July, but then I heard back recently after 3 months of silence! I think they're still behind on apps

I didn't apply this year, so I will never know for sure. While a single person did report a R a few pages back, last year pre-II Rs didn't go out until January, and they did have what seemed like a pretty big II wave in December, so I think it's too early to brace yourself for disappointment.

Can you talk about the surrounding Chicago area? I noticed that UChicago is not that far from Feinberg--do the schools serve a similar subset of patients / geographical area, or what are the notable differences?

UoChicago is actually decently far from Feinberg. I think the patient population is totally different and we live in totally different areas. Even the programs/hospitals that are closer, like Stroger/Rush/UiC, cater to a different patient population. - Another MS4

Yes and no. We are required to do scholarly work through the AoSC, unless you are doing a dual degree program, so everyone does research. Even the dual degree people have to do a thesis. Does that mean everyone has 20 pubs upon graduation? No. Some people love research or are going into a specialty that requires a lot of it, so they do a lot. Some people take a year off in between their M3 and M4 year to do research to boost their app or just because they want to, that is also welcome. But also some students just do their required amount and call it a day. There is quite a range

Lol, I think people not from the midwest just don't realize how damn spread out midwestern cities are.

I guess UoChicago isn't crazy far driving, but Chicago is a decently dense city. So every hospital has a good patient base. Also NMH patients come from ALL over Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Being a tertiary/quaternary center means that people will travel quite a ways to get care there.

Feinberg tends to cater to the wealthier demographic of the midwest. Will you see those experiencing homelessness, patients of lower SES, uninsured patients? Sure, of course! But that is not the majority or even half of the patient's you'll see.

Edit: For the Ob/gyn rotation you have the option of going to Stroger/Cook County which is the total opposite of NMH. Then for medicine and psych you can go to the Jessie Brown VA which is also a different patient population.
 
Ahhh. Post interview, got an update that they are delaying my decision until after the entire interview process. Going to send a letter of interest, but not sure what my chances are now... Has this happened to anyone else?

I wouldn't worry too much, it seems like that be more standard than we think. According to their website:

" The Feinberg School of Medicine has a modified rolling admissions process that utilizes a batched approach to sending acceptances. We interview candidates September through early February. Our pool of interviewees is very large, so many decisions are pending until after the interview season is completed. Some prospective students receive acceptances during the active interview season, the first acceptances being sent in November, but many of our slots are not committed until March. "

Any thoughts on how post-II letters of interest are viewed here? I love the program and would reeeaaalllly like to secure that late-November A haha. But I don’t want to irritate them and their policy of “no thank you notes” makes me think that a letter of interest with no real updates might not be warmly received

You're welcome to send letters of interest to Admissions Office. It won't irritate them as long as it sounds sincere.

Does anyone know if the town halls are camera on/formal wear?

Yeah 100% agree, just didn't want people to feel pressure to wear a suit or put crazy makeup on or something. Like don't look sloppy but yeah they're not going to base your admissions decision on how you look. There were literally 140 people in the room and they were screen sharing, so nobody is looking at each and every person's screen to see if they look appropriate.

Once you've completed your interview, you should be getting the emails. If not, I would send an email to the admissions office to ask about being added to that Listserve

For anyone who interviewed here, were your interviews open file or closed file? Also, do you know where I can find more info on common interview questions etc (I think there's a SDN page on that if I'm not mistaken?)

faculty interviews were open file, student interview was closed file

I believe student ones were partially open because my student interviewer asked me about my degree program. He also asked me about something I wrote in my PS I think.

Students only have access to your name, preferred name, gender pronouns, hometown, undergrad/grad institution, major, graduation date. Hope this helps.
 
I feel like this was asked before but I can't seem to really find it for some reason, and @FeinMS I would love to get your perspective. Regarding their no-thank you policy, do we think that this means no thank you letters sent directly to their admissions email, or does that also mean don't individually contact their interviewers either (whose personal addresses are in our portal?)

No thank you mails to the admissions committee AND individually. Feel free to ask any other questions to interviewers if they offered though.

Of note, by the time you send it anyway the interviewer has likely already filled out the evaluation. I have had applicants send me post-interview questions and they add on a thank you which is fine. But really it has 0 effect on the evaluation because it has already been sent.
