My rejection email did mention this: "the Committee values strong academic credentials, ongoing involvement in community service, significant exposure to the healthcare field, research experience, demonstrated leadership, and interaction with people having backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences outside of and beyond one’s own."

Thought it may be an interesting tid-bit for those of you still waiting

Complete September. No pre-II R yet. Received the update email on 1/4. Anyone else in a similar boat? Is this a good sign?

I did, it was really interesting actually. They answered a bunch of questions about the process. Priority waitlist is apparently a separate thing from the normal waitlist, they’ve made some changes and planning stuff to avoid last year’s no waitlist movement, aiming for 20-25 to come off, said that they are about halfway through the interview season now, and movement might start soon after it ends, but like who knows. If you have any questions I took some notes

I got put on the priority waitlist on Jan 5th and never got an email for the town hall, weird, I guess I did not get the email for it.

What day was it and did they say when the next one would be? Also, did they say anything about how they view letters of intent/interest? What are some other interesting things they said?

She said feel free to do a letter of intent, but that they don’t expect it and don’t see it as a game changer basically (she said we know applicants will write whatever it takes whether or not its true or something along those lines). Said they’d be doing them once a month. She did also say that they didn’t see an increase in applicants this year, and actually less “complete” ones, which sounded like once they do a prelim screen for reqs and scores.

She also talked a bit about COVID, they’re at 65% of students got the first dose, she recommended filling out FAFSA ahead of time even if you’re on the WL, second look includes WL ppl, will be in April but they’re not sure about virtual/maybe some things in person.

Thanks! I guess I wasn't included in the Jan one, and will get the link for the February one. Did they say how many people are put on the priority vs. normal waitlist, and how much of the 20-25 will come from either? It seems like some people already got pulled off the priority WL.

Also, when did u interview and get WL?

She said the priority waitlist was not the same thing as the normal one, that basically they felt like they needed more time to discuss and make a decision, there's a waitlist committee that runs the town hall stuff and the normal waitlist, so thats probably why you weren't included. I interviewed 11/18, wl 2 weeks later lol

I was also priority waitlisted in early January and did not receive an email invite for this. But it's good to see that they are working to get more people off the watilist this year. Did they mention at all how many people are expected to be put on the priority list in total? Just trying to gauge my chances lol. Also been thinking about sending an update letter/letter of intent but I guess it sounds like they don't take them too seriously in their decisions. I just want to get accepted here, it's my top choice haha

They do take them seriously. That was one thing that was specifically stated and encouraged during the very first town hall so I would send one, so long as it’s strong and update-worthy (or LOI-worthy) of course. They want to see continued interest from WL applicants.

If I had to guess, Rush probably will send out more interviews assuming they extended their interview season due to delays. It seems like Rush does not schedule far out, they like to send IIs for interviews that will happen within 2-4 weeks. So if they are halfway in, they probably have more interviews to send out, although I don’t think they only gave half of interviews.
 
My guess is that most schools will have to do more interviews then in a normal application cycle. My reasoning is that everyone is attending every interview since they don't have to attend in person and spend the money to travel. Probably fair to assume that the same applicants are getting a lot of the interview slots at most schools especially earlier in the cycle and thereby getting a lot of the acceptances. When they start deciding which school to attend there will be a lot more withdrawn applications than in a normal cycle and they will interview more to fill those open slots...
 
Sounds like the priority waitlist is like "active consideration" Which they used last year.

Also I know im late to the game, but I really really really don't think those update emails mean ANYTHING. After 2 years worth of speculation of those emails... I promise you all theres no correlation.

Also seems like she meant halfway through interview season.
