Is accepting an MD plus offer at this school still considered non-binding at this point?

Yes. You may decide to take an offer from another school instead later via the Match. You will rank all the schools where you interviewed for regular MD spots for the Match.

I interviewed two weeks ago and just got my Thank You note returned back to me in the mail 🙁 how bad is not sending a timely Thank You note? I'll just send it via email this time, but now I'm all worried ugh.

I prematched, didn’t send a thank you note. Imo it feels a bit redundant sending a thank you note after thanking them in person during the interview.

If I interviewed 10/15 and wasn’t in the 2nd wave of prematches, is it safe to assume that I will not prematch here? Or is it possible to get a prematch in a later wave?

You could always pre-match later; however, if others who interviewed with you, or later than you, have pre-matched then I'd say it's reasonable to say you did not pre-match since they would have likely met and discussed your application already. Nothing is set in stone though and you could always match, too.

Does anyone know how long it takes after interviews to be notified of results? Particularly for OOS?

You could hear back tomorrow or you could literally never hear from the school again. Such is the way of applications. Just be patient and focus on something else.

II today! Whoop!
515 MCAT (retaken), 3.71 uGPA, 4.0 grad GPA. ORM, Texas resident. Reapplicant, lots of research, really good grad school. Completed mid-August.

Can't wait, this is #4 for me, all TMDSAS. Good luck to you all

After getting accepted, do we only need to submit the three forms: (Acceptance Acknowledgement, Student Registration, and Core Residency) or do we need to do something else before the 2 week period ends?
Just the 3 forms is what is needed to hold your spot.

I was complete 7/8, has my app been skipped over? 🙁 Do schools re-review applications at a later date?

It seems like Texas A&M is a little different than most schools though (since several people on this thread have already been offered acceptances, including OOS). Or are those rare circumstances?

Same, I'm also waiting. I feel you! You have great stats and I'm sure you're a great candidate. Hopefully you'll get it!

No, not different. Like many other schools in TX and the US, A&M has started giving out acceptances when they are allowed to and may never bother to reject you--and if they do then it won't be until way later. If they passed over your app, then it could still be re-evaluated at a later date.

I see. If you feel that your chances are good, is it wise to contact A&M at all for an idea of the notification timeline?

Absolutely not.

Do most schools notify you about rejections after interviews or do a lot never bother?
Most do not bother, but of course it is school-dependent. Look at past threads of schools you're concerned about.

Are you saying that as a general rule based on your experience with a lot of schools, or for this one in particular?
All schools. The adcoms on this board have religiously and frequently warned against being a needy premed that needs instant gratification (search for update letters, letters of intent, and the such if you don't believe me). At best nothing happens and at worst it hurts your application.

I know, it's very difficult, but you just have to be patient now and accept that if the fit is correct with a school then things will eventually work out.

I agree with @Deltasidearm

Remember when you were a little kid in the back seat of the car, and you constantly asked your mom/dad "Are we there yet?"
How did that go over? Yeah, it did not help, was annoying, and put the 'rents in a worse mood, right?
Don't be that kid. 😉

This. Also, I wanted to ask you, @wysdoc, based on what you know, what would be the best A&M campus to do clinicals at if I'm interested in EM? I know it's true that many people change their specialty, but this is something that I have been interested in for a bit and I am thinking of seriously pursuing it. Also, how competitive is it to get into EM? I've heard conflicting opinions on that.
Check out these links @DangerousDays

Temple

College Station

Since Temple has the 650 bed Scott& White Hospital which is a regional level 1 trauma center, I think that would be your choice for the most EM action. Also take advantage of your elective time in 4th year to do more EM rotations.

Thanks @wysdoc! Appreciate the help. I also wanted to ask, how much does volunteering and research factor into getting accepted to residency? I know that Houston and College Station have most of the research facilities, so I was concerned about whether or not I could get enough research at Temple to get an EM residency. What do you think? (Also isn't the College Station hospital only Level II Trauma?)
Yes, Temple is the Level 1. I don't know anything about research and EM residencies, something to ask at an interview or if you get a chance to talk to current med students.

I understand, I don't mean to sound needy. I'm very new to the med school applications process, so I was wondering if it was comparable to companies you interview for where it is appropriate to ask about timelines. Thanks for the input.

They would probably just tell you the dates or the prematch period and the match date

So, I am very blessed to have prematched here, and I am fairly certain this is where I want to attend. As a nontrad, I am trying to figure out quitting, moving, wife finding a job, and preparing as best as I can for this enormous life change.
Now, for my inquiries:
  • When exactly is day 1? Best I can see from other years is last Monday in July? With possibly an orientation on the second to last Monday.
    • So best guess would be orientation of July 19 and first day of classes on July 26, 2021.
  • MedCamp? I have seen that many years have this feature with like a four week, free mini-camp starting early June to get a jumpstart into med school. Will this happen in 2021? Did this happen in 2020 or was it cancelled? If this is offered, I will probably do it.
I know I am probably jumping the gun and need to practice patience, but if anyone has more info on this, it will be appreciated.

FYI Texas A&M applicants and Texas A&M EnMed applicants,

Andrew Robbins, PhD who is the Director of Admissions, Engineering Medicine gave an interview today 11/3/2020 with Enrique Jasso Jr. from Texas Health Education Service. This interview is highly detailed including curriculum schedules and a full description of the program and its expectations.

Texas Health Education Service >>> Link to the interview on Facebook

Although the TMDSAS application deadline has passed on October 30, EnMed has extended its application deadline for this year.

I recommend you watch the interview if this interests you. Towards the end he tells you what he looks for in interviewees.
Then, if wishing to send in a "late" application to EnMed, follow these instructions:

If you submitted an EY2021 application to Texas A&M COM, please email Dr Robbins to complete the supplemental application at [email protected].

If you did not apply to medical school for EY2021 and would like to be apply to EnMed this cycle, please submit this form: https://www.tmdsas.com/PLAN/references/apply-enmed.html

Interesting. I wonder if EnMed fell short of good applicants.

So during one of the Student Panels, it was mentioned that we would write essays for which clinical location we wanted around Match Day. However, I also saw someone's comment on here that we would write the essay/choose a clinical location close to the end of M1. When do we choose the clinical locations?

My interview day consistently stated prior to matriculation, though I had no reason to question it so I did not ask.

Is Texas A&M showing up in anyone's TMDSAS prematch page?
I have other schools on there, but not my offer from A&M yet. It's irrelevant anyway, though, since it doesn't mean anything and if you're going to reject the offer then you should directly email A&M at this point.

I know, I was just wondering because I heard that it is showing upon for some people and was a getting a little worried.

In their courage session event with TMDSAS, TAMU COM mentioned that clinical sites will be assigned in late spring/early summer before matriculation. However, there is also an opportunity at the end of MS1 year to apply to be reconsidered for a different clinical campus than you were originally assigned.

Thank you so much for this clarification!

Should I be concerned if my prematch offer has not shown up on TMDSAS yet? I got my acceptance on October 15th and am unsure if it's normal for it to take this long.

Mine isn't showing up either. I think we're fine since its only used to withdraw from prematch offers and that's not really advised from my understanding.
